Synthetic alcohol

So some researchers in the UK want to create synthetic alcohol so that people can continue to drink alcohol without getting hangovers. You can still get drunk, etc, from synthetic alcohol but no hangovers.

Silly me but I thought the hangovers were your bodies way of telling you that you drank too much. I don't see the 'good' that can come by this. I don't understand why they have continue to fund research and all for this.
