I am a fucking god.
This should be a no-brainer. Too often it isn't and with tragic results.
A former neighbor of mine is dead, his 14 and 16 year old daughters are tranquilized so they will stop screaming. My mother (who he also called Mom) is heartbroken and a community has lost a good man.
Why? Because he was returning home from a night of fun at a local racetrack when a drunk driver turned in front of him, killing him. THE SAME WEEK some idiot T-boned another car less than an hour's drive from that scene, killing a passenger in his car AND in the other car and sending everyone by airlift to area hospitals.
You guys are all smart and so I expect this is me yelling for no real reason. Feel free to roll your eyes if you think that this is unnecessary for you to read. But read it please, and pass it on. Because there is nothing more unnecessary than someone getting drunk and then getting into a car to drive.
Fight your friends and take the keys if you have to. Pay for a cab if need be. Be prepared to get out of bed and get someone, even if you curse them out all the way home. Count drinks when you see your buddies knocking them back. But we need to do SOMETHING. We need to do BETTER.
Because every girl deserves for her Daddy to come home.
