Gathering at the clock tower

Gabe was partially dressed when he heard a knock on the door and heard Zizi's voice.

Zizi: "Gabe?"

"Yea--"

His voice croaked and cracked like a pre teen boy. He cleared it carefully before attempting to answer again.

"Yeah?"

Zizi: "Just checking that you have everything you need?"

"Actually I don't think they gave me a shirt..."

Zizi sounded annoyed at the carrier service as she entered the room, Gabe pulling a white t-shirt over his head and straightening it down his body with a smile.

"Nevermind, found it."

He just wanted an excuse to talk to her alone for a few minutes after everything that had happened.

"Come here."

Sitting down on the edge of the bed , he pulled Zizi's chair closer to him before taking her hands. They were soft and her nails were painted a pale pink color. He stared at them for a moment, trying to collect his thoughts. Ava's words still playing in his mind like an endless record.

"I was really scared."

He finally admitted.

"Not because she attacked me, but because I thought she was going to attack you."

Shutting his eyes.

"Liz you're my best friend....you have been since I was a kid. You know everything about me. Shit, you know what fucking shampoo I use."

He said with a small laugh before finally looking up into her eyes.

"All this bullshit that happened....with your friends....and the sort of date...and all the weird awkwardness? It's all trivial--it's stupid. We know what we have. We know what we mean to each other. And maybe it took Ava threatening you for me to finally realize that I don't want to be just friends with you. I haven't for a long time."

Squeezing her hands, Gabe decided to put all his cards out on the table and just fucking be honest with not only her, but with himself. It had been a bumpy road the past couple of days, but the largest bump in the road seemed to steer him back in the right direction. Cleared his head of all the self doubt and made him realize that life was too damn short to second guess everything. He just needed to live and put it out there. Let the chips fall.

"I love you kid. Wookie slippers and all."

East Harlem Safehouse

Persephone: They wouldn't turn me into a statue, Haleigh. Not this time.

Haleigh shook her head in frustration.

"If they don't do THAT their other option is to kill you. Is THAT what you want? You really gonna commit suicide by Six after everything I've done to keep you alive at Hellfire?"

Seph tried to say the only one she could count on was herself, but Haleigh corrected her quickly, which only earned a sarcastic reply. Haleigh understood why. Seph believed Haleigh was only invested because of Ava. To some degree that was true. Haleigh only gave Seph a chance because of Ava. But Haleigh herself wasn't trying to keep such a sharp distinction anymore, now that she'd developed an actual relationship with Persephone.

"Come on Seph. Don't be such a cynical bitch. How could I NOT care about you, by now? You're not so different from Ava. A little darker, a little more brutal. A little more like ME, in other words. So of course I like you just for that. And I know.... the only reason you didn't leave Hellfire last night, and run off with the Red Knight to that snowy little cabin, was because of me. So stop keeping me at arms length, okay? Stop dismissing everything I say and do as something I'm only doing for Ava. Because if all I cared about was Ava? Then I WOULD let Cameron try to rid her of you."

She said, and then she broached the topic of Hellfire. Seph said she was only going back because of Haleigh, and then threatened to cut the tongue out of any person that had shit to say to her about Alek. Haleigh chuckled as Seph went for more scotch.

"Please text me first so I don't miss the show."

Persephone: So you saw. What happened last night with The Six.

Haleigh nodded, her smile beginning to fade.

"I was nearby, in case you needed backup. Mystique beat me to the punch, and then the whole thing was over before I could drop in and say hi to the old gang."

Persephone: I hope you're not still attached. Because I'm going to extinguish your sister [Blaze] in the most painful way possible.

Haleigh frowned. She was still attached, of course. But that wasn't something that would sway Seph. Plus, it was a fact Haleigh needed to ignore if she was going to keep this whole thing going.

"And then HER sister will kill you, and I'll be all alone at Hellfire. Can't say I'm looking forward to it."

EOS Nomad -- Zach's Apartment

He crudely told her what he'd 'rather' do, because he knew that kind of talk would turn her on, and then he guided her into the kitchen, because they both needed to eat and he wanted to let the anticipation and arousal build up until it drove them both wild. Delayed gratification was always quite intense.

He could tell his diabolical plan was working already, based on her expression and the way she mentioned his last 'meal'. He smirked, wiping his beard with one hand as he tried to hand her an apron, but she tossed it off. He shrugged, and went about pouring his coffee, secretly happy she didn't cover up the sexy little number she was wearing with the apron after all.

Ashley: You know, Zach, I don't think you've mentioned how well you like my new nightie.

She asked, as he added some hazelnut creamer to his mug. He turned to appraise her then, biting his bottom lip for a moment and he accidentally started pouring the cream on the counter, he let himself get so distracted. He caught it and chortled a bit, grabbing a paper towel for cleanup.

"Yeah, it's pretty sexy on you... but... I think I'd like it better on the floor."

He replied with a salacious wink, tossing the paper towel in the trash and getting two skillets out of the cabinet. Ashley was making an effort to draw his attention back to her chest, and it was working.

Ashley: You don't think the top is.... too small?

She asked, and then she turned away, with her neck exposed. So she was teasing him then, trying to make him pay for making her wait. He smirked as he moved up behind her, and gave her neck a playful nip with his teeth as his hands went to the clasp of her nightie.

"Yeah, it does look a bit tight. Allow me to just make you more comfortable."

He said, taking it off her.

"Much better, no?"

He asked, tossing it away. He wanted to take her immediately, on the counter, or on the breakfast table or on the kitchen floor, or maybe all three places even, but he pulled away. She was toying with him, and he was going to make it as hard for her as it was for him. He sipped his coffee innocently, and put the bacon in the skillet, trying not to acknowledge his throbbing need.

Last night, in Central Park, under the glowing, beautiful moon....

Sharon: Even though I'll be remaining in the city, I won't be "the vengeful Silver Swan" ALL of the time. It would be nice...to have some more...HUMAN company. Perhaps you could help me with that?

Darren said:
Darren smiled as they stopped walking, and Sharon faced him. He remembered their kiss from earlier, the one that had ended far too soon. He gazed at her for a moment, and then decided that he wasn't going to answer her question with words. He leaned in, reaching a hand up to her jawline, bringing their lips together, but this time, he didn't pull away.

[FLASH!]

Seer said:
<< Through that night....as the moon bathes their bodies in the spectral moonlight...>>

[ Images of bodies moving, writhing, merging, loving, satisfying...with a sexy song, appropriate for this moment.]

[ The vengeful Silver Swan, a woman possessed of tremendous physical power, is now, in this moment the arms of a man who encourages her, on EVERY level, to revel in being the WOMAN that she is. It's not VIOLENT and like it was with Domino, the time together moves and flows like a symphony with several acts, gentle, passionate, DEEP, and finally that climax]

[ The music, and the moon gives out long before they do, and somewhere in that sweet transition between darkness and first dawn, Darren and Sharon soon travel into the arms of unconsciousness.]

[ Time passes, and dawn gives way to morning.]

Seer said:
<< The moon watched them in Central Park, and guided their path toward one another, and they spent the night together!>>

It was then a massive CRASH of thunder SHOOK The Clocktower and all the buildings surrounding a ten block radius of where they were.

Seer said:
<< Sharon Kelly's silver eyes POP OPEN, as she awakens...in Darren Hudson's bed...and with her hearing, she BOLTS upright with a start, due to the thunder even startling the nude, and still slumbering Darren next to her.>>

[It hadn't been a dream. It was all REAL, and as that sunk in, Sharon became ALARMED as she looked around, and was about to get out of the bed quickly. Darren, who was enjoying "the view", he could see her in distress. Just as she was about to get out of the bed in a hurry, he placed a hand on her arm, and gently moved it down to her hand, taking holding it.]

Darren...I'm sorry, the crash of thunder...it caught me off guard.

[ She looked at him, she began to settle. This wasn't wrong. For the first time, in a while, it felt RIGHT! Still, she couldn't neglect her responsibilities!]

....I should check on Alycia, and Rose, make sure that everything's okay.

[ She was not yet aware of Ava's attack on Gabe, nor was she immediately aware that the massive thunder clap she'd just heard was due to Persephone harrasing Oracle and the others inside the clocktower!]

On the way to the Clock Tower

:: Richard had taken the opportunity to surprise and delight Dominique, making their return to the clock tower an unexpected, but enjoyable, and scenic experience.::

:: She allows herself to be a bit more relaxed...and even a bit informal with her handsome young ward as they enjoy this trip in the beautiful car, but then....::

She tossed her phone to Viv.

"Please call Dominique. I know she can take care of herself, but she deserves to know the danger. Though if Ava was coming she would probably be here by now."

"It's not as if she takes taxis."

Zizi got on the coms then.

[via com] "Oracle here. There's been another Ava sighting. Be on guard and stick together.

:: Isis wastes no time, weaving a teleporting spell that takes herself and Richard straight to the Clock Tower::

:: A crash of thunder::

Richard, we must be ready. If that renegade goddess is attacking the Clock Tower, you will join the others inside, forming on Oracle. I will confront Persephone myself! Beware, the possibility that Black Widow could be here, AIDING HER, is quite strong.

I turned down an alley and Isis was teleporting us seamlessly into the Clocktower as I reformed, changing my right hand into a Vepr 12 shotgun. I hit the coms.

We are inside, are you OK?

I hit the dining area first, with Isis watching my back as I swept. I saw Zizi, who had been crying, Vivica, who looked concerned, and some white boy at the windows. Something was odd, I smelled blood and alcohol in the room, someone was injured.

Was Persephone here?

:: Isis noted the young man at the window, was he INSANE?::

She shook her head.

"We heard thunder, but didn't see her."

My magicks don't detect her presence either, but that crack of thunder was most certainly NOT natural . She WAS in the vacinity.

:: And without her scans, it was obvious, based on the young man peering out of one of the windows.::

"Speak for yourself."

He joked grimly as he rubbed the back of his neck. Reaching out toward Rich, he shook his hand.

"Gabriel Jerome. I've been working with Rose on her new security system."

He gave Dominique a respectful nod.

"Miss Devereaux, pleasure."

Good morning.

[ She nodded ]

Gabe introduced himself, as if he were just some technician installing their cable.

"He's also an old friend."

She knew Dominique would not take kindly to a stranger being around in these times. He seemed to notice his appearance then, and looked to her.

[ as recently as 24 hours ago, she WOULD have been far more icy and aloof toward the young man, but in a moment that would surprise Oracle...]

You're shaken...

[ She sensed his physical distress]

You've been injured, by Persephone, and you've been operating on adrenaline.

I can heal your wounds, restore your body to homeostasis....

Looking over at Zizi, Gabe nodded toward the bedrooms that lined the hallway.

"You think John or someone has some clothes I can borrow?"

His shirt and jeans covered with spots of blood from the cuts on his skin.

"Jeans, t shirt, socks, underwear...and male appropriate shampoo and soap. Use my bathroom. And you should lie down after too - you didn't get any sleep last night. And you need to heal."

[ Richard had retrieved the deliveries for Oracle, while Isis herself "reached out" around the vacinity of the building, and cast a WARDING SPELL. Egyptian runes flashed/seared on the windows, and doors, any obvious entrance/exit. They PAINFULLY repel any attempt to breach them, and since Isis knew Persephone had SOME mystical resources at her disposal that Oracle's security might not be able account for, Isis decided to address that now.]

"Nah, i'm gonna go over the security systems at The Sanctuary one more time, make sure everything is good. Double check some feeds outside, scan around the city and see if I can find anything unusual."

He couldn't just sit around and do nothing. His throat hurt but he felt fine otherwise. A little whiskey and donuts would do the trick. But Zizi gave him a look and Gabe lifted his hand up innocently.

"Hey...if I start feeling like shit i'll lay down."

You should listen to her, and let me heal you. You're injured, and continuing on as if nothing's happened is not wise.

:: but Gabe disappeared down the hall and into Zizi's suite, and Richard asked just what had happen, a very good question.::

"Ava was waiting for him when he returned home this morning. She strangled him. Put him through a glass table - that's why he's bloody. She knew that he texted me and assumed we were all coming, so she fled. Then he called me to tell me what had happened. I had Vivica call Dominique as soon as I hung up with Gabe."

[Another AMBUSH by Persephone. She was GOOD at that.]

Oracle said:
This was getting to be too much. Now she could appear anywhere, take any of them. Even people like Gabe who had done nothing. Who cared about her even. She pinched the bridge of her nose, looking at Viv.

"Anything in your research say how we can keep her out of a place?"

I've taken care of that with my warding spell. If she, Black Widow or anyone else tries to breach my runes, they'll be PAINFULLY repulsed. THEY will exhaust their physical reserves before my spells are broken.

They discussed the situation, then after a bit she excused herself to check on her house guest.

:: She looked at Richard, and Vivica::

It would appear that we chose the right time to return...

:: for Vivica, this confirmed that Dominique was INDEED going to STAY, and give this...give THEM a chance.::

:: Dominique looked rather serious at the moment, but Richard flashed Vivica a quick thumbs up and a wink to confirm what she was suspecting::

That woman is GOOD at ambushes....and STABBING her foes in the BACK. But when confronted head on?

The only reason she escaped Firebird's attack because she had help. If Persephone should return here, I'll be more than happy to give her a ONE WAY trip through Doom's doorway.

:: She looks around for a moment.::

Vivica, would you ask Oracle to come to....

:: if she said it, she was flat out confirming it....::

....come to my floor of the clocktower when she's free? I'd like to speak with her.

:: Richard accompanies Dominique, and as usual, he checks and sweeps over the floor of her suite in the Clock Tower, a habit he's had since their time together in the Hellfire Mansion.::

:: Now standing in the living room of her suite at the Clock Tower, Richard gives the "all clear."::

It has been a while since we've been HERE.

:: She looks at Richard, and there's a flash of uncertainty on her face. Was she really allowing herself to commit to this??::

The Sanctuary- Rose's brownstone

[ Alycia sat beside Xavier, who stole a couple glances at her. She was amused, flattered evening, but she wasn't going to entertain him like that HERE of all places. But outside of this place? GAME ON!]

[ Alycia felt refreshed, that wonderful meal, the fellowship, the TEQUILA, and the moon? The only thing missing was last night was...]

[...now SHE was looking at Xavier, and smirking a bit at the thoughts she had. He was a bit younger than her, but very worldly, and she appreciated that. But he wasn't narcissistic, not like that SLIME BALL, Cameron King! The moon had cast it's glow over her, and showed her a new direction to look in, and what an appealing one it was!]

[ And while she and Xavier fancied each other being "on the menu", Simon took pitty on the sweet, but spoiled Sable, who silently begged, with her big pretty eyes, for a few scraps from the breakfast table. He handled that like a pro, quickly giving her some treats, as she scampered back to her bowl of gourmet food right when Rose herself entered, with the man responsible for bringing the new and powerful security and defense systems online!]

<< She gestured for Ramsey to take a seat at the table. Rose then seated herself at the head of the table.>>

I hope everyone had a good night's rest, under that beautiful moon?

As you each prepare to go on with your day, I'm glad that you'll be leaving here renewed minds as well as nourished bodies. Thank you for helping me to secure and protect those that are the most in need!

Thank you for your kindness, and hospitality, Rose!

We'll stand with you and support you however you need us to!

[ Simon voiced his gratitude and affirmation as well. He DEFINITELY looked AND sounded different than she she'd seen him at Blaze's debutante ball, or even in the aftermath of the Purifiers. Danny was on to something, and Alycia was willing to look further into it!]

[ Others around the table conversed and enjoyed the breakfast, while Sable enjoyed her specially prepared food, AND the treats Simon had sneaked her. ]

He raised a glass of juice as Simon thanked ROSE, giving her a respectful 'cheers' and drinking to go with his hearty eating. As he cleared his mouth of food he spoke to Alycia in an almost conspiratorial whisper.

Did you have pleasant dreams? I had a great one...you were in it....

Is that right?

[ She eyed him with a lifted eye brow.]

I think you were just moonstruck.

I slept quite soundly.

[She winked as she teased him a bit]

A brilliant breakfast. Great conversation. It was winding down and Xavier was honestly wondering what would be next. He had planned to play cricket with the kids that day but it was not yet time and he knew that soon enough they all needed to go face the day.

Evil works overtime, and so his day was now planned.

[ Alycia was just saying a personal "see you later" to Rose, assuring her that any further dealings with Clandestine Inc, via Darren, would be much smoother now that she'd set the tone of them in their first meeting, and she assured Rose that whatever was needed, she and the others would do their best to provide it.]

[ Speaking of Darren....]

Sharon....I haven't heard back from her! I'm.....I'm SURE she's alright. She probably just a HOT TIME on the moonlit town, with Darren! Still...if I DON'T hear from her sometime today...DARREN will be hearing from ME!

[ Rae and Simon would linger at Rose's house a bit longer, while Alycia and Xavier prepared to head to Charope LLC, and Danny was going to head out as soon.]

[ After speaking to Rose, Alycia made her way over to Simon, who was petting a content Sable as she lay on a chair in Rose's parlor.]

Here.

[ She hands him an appointment card, with a time on it]

Meet me at my office at this time [ later today].

I've heard some...interesting things about you, and I'd like to talk to you about them.

[ She winked at him and turned to make her way toward the double doors where Xavier was waiting for her.]

Well....everything's in order. I guess we can...

[via com] "Oracle here. There's been another Ava sighting. Be on guard and stick together.

:: Alycia jolted a bit...and then her hazel eyes betrayed a look of RAGE as she balled one of her fists.::

:: Oh how SATISFYING it would be, to CRAM a bolt of Zeus' divine lightning into Persephone's mouth, and watch her head EXPLODE! After what she'd done to Zach and herself? ANY progress they'd made since Stavros' death was GONE, and Alycia would HAPPILY send Persephone to JOIN Stavros in TARTARUS.::

I was JUST thinking...how much FUN it would be to practice my GOLF SWING again.

:: She said BITTERLY as she trembled with rage. Xavier, who was likely not aware of her infamous, and by now, legendary dispatching of Stavros Cassadine using a golf club, and sending him falling to his death from the 99th floor of Illustra, might not get this "dark humor" she was using right now try to cope with the TRIGGER of hearing that Ava was on the loose.::

:: She also didn't hear Oracle's closed channel communication to Xavier to stay WITH Alycia now, and keep her safe.::

Unconsciously nodding, Xavier hugged Rae and shook everyone else's hand as he held the door for Alycia.

Buddy system. Oracle's orders. I am your manservant, I will take you wherever you need to go and stay out of your way while you work. I can participate as much or as little as you like, but I do not want to risk you being hurt again.

He was no lovesick puppy, or clingy, but he actually CARED. And she could see that, that he simply wanted to be there for her.

Besides, learning anything from you in terms of the legal system is one of my goals. What better way than by observation? Shall we be off?

Xavier offered her his arm...

:: Alycia's growing agitation was interrupted by Xavier, and his sweet, charming presentation. And DAMN was he fine!::

:: His genuine desire to help was felt. But Alycia DID draw the line on one thing::

Xavier, an amazon does not EVER require a.... "man servant." and even if I WEREN'T one, I wouldn't stand for you or anyone I respect to refer to yourself that way! Contrary to what that blonde bullshark (Ashley) thinks , Amazons do NOT hate men, nor do we wish to see them subjugated.

:: After she was certain he understood, she softens her gaze, and takes his arm::

I'm headed back to my office. I have a meeting with Delilah, we have some work to do regarding that Dennis Nedry.

I WELCOME your company, and participation, as a teammate, and a FRIEND, and with that turncoat BITCH Ava on the loose, one can't be too careful.

[ Satisfied that it was okay to leave Rose's place, now that the security and defense systems were online, and with Rae and Simon staying over for a bit longer, the amazon and the speedster took their leave.]

[ Back at Charope, LLC, and now in Alycia's office, which STILL bore the effects of Alycia's rampage just a couple nights back in the aftermath of Cameron and Haleigh's disrespect and betrayal...]

....

:: Sigh::

With everything's happened...I haven't had time to clean up, and REMOVE all traces of ...

:: once again, stepping on a framed, and now shattered photo of herself and Cameron that lay on the floor, she grinds high heel into the glass, and scratches the picture itself::

...that selfish PIG (Cameron), and that robotic WHORE (Haleigh Davidoff).

I really need to get this...SHIT...

:: anything to do with the two of them::

OUT of here.

I can't conduct business with my office like this. I don't want Delilah thinking I conduct my business in a MESS like this!

:: the night she had her heart to heart with Bishop, she had flung a picture of Cameron, from Blaze's debutante party, into the fire place. Nothing remained of it but burnt remnants, no longer recognizeable.::

:: Alycia bent down, and began to pick up pictures, and other broken items, throwing them into the waste basket.::

I'll take this crap down to the waste incinerator.

Alycia and Xavier were having fun, but he did stroke one nerve. His offer of manservanthood was rejected with a note that Amazon's neither hated men nor wanted them subjugated.

Now was not the time to clarify, but to understand. So Xavier listened and decided to wait until a better time to address things.

It was time to go when the alley came over and Alycia shook with rage, going on about A GOLF CLUB?! Obviously a backstory to be explored, but for now they headed to Charope, LLC so Alycia can conduct business.

Upon their arrival, the office was still a mess. It was the aftermath of Alycia suffering from the knowledge of her betrayal. She still felt very WOUNDED over it...in truth, she has suffered indignity, insult AND injury in the past few days.

:: Sigh::

With everything's happened...I haven't had time to clean up, and REMOVE all traces of ...

I'll take this crap down to the waste incinerator.

Xavier placed his hands on hers, stopping her gently but firmly as he looked into her eyes.

No ma'am. No you will not. Not alone. Look, I know that sometimes it feels like accepting help is somehow imposing, but I honestly am here for you. And while we will retire the term manservant between us, I find it NO IMPOSITION to be of service.

Here...

Xavier takes the wastebasket from Alycia.

YOU find and secure that which you wish to keep that has made the floor. I will secure all glass and then, on a secondary sweep, I will take care of everything else. It is my pleasure to help you. You have enough on your plate. Now go. PLEASE.

Xavier turned to begin a high speed sweep of the glass in the room, the most obvious source of hazard and detritus...

The Clocktower - Zizi's Room

Zizi knocked on the door to check to see that Gabe was okay.

"Actually I don't think they gave me a shirt..."

"Oh you have got to be kidding I've never had a problem before."

She opened the door.

"Are you sure it's not in there?"

She paused, and swallowed hard, the sight of Gabe's bare torso causing the blood to rise to her cheeks.

Hatchi matchi...

She looked a bit confused, as he was pulling a tee shirt down over his head.

Gabe said:
"Nevermind, found it."

She sighed with relief, and returned his smile.

Gabe said:
"Come here."

She shut the door behind her and wheeled towards him where he sat on the bed, a questioning look on her face.

He took both of her hands, and she looked up into his face.

Gabe said:
"I was really scared."

"That's understandable - you could have been really hurt."

But that wasn't what he'd meant.

Gabe said:
"Not because she attacked me, but because I thought she was going to attack you."

Zizi squeezed his hand.

"But she didn't."

Gabe said:
"Liz you're my best friend....you have been since I was a kid. You know everything about me. Shit, you know what fucking shampoo I use."

"Well...of course I do. You're my best friend."

She said it matter of factly. He was looking at her, with eyes that were the richest brown you had ever seen.

Gabe said:
"All this bullshit that happened....with your friends....and the sort of date...and all the weird awkwardness? It's all trivial--it's stupid. We know what we have. We know what we mean to each other. And maybe it took Ava threatening you for me to finally realize that I don't want to be just friends with you. I haven't for a long time."

She breathed in sharply. Everything the day before had been such an awkward mess, with everybody "helping" and it just making everything weird. And SHE making everything weird. But he said for a long time. Did he mean that?

Gabe said:
"I love you kid. Wookie slippers and all."

She looked at him for a long moment, studying his face. She pulled one of her hands from his grasp, and set it on the bed next to him, transferring herself to a seat on the bed next to him with practiced ease. The chair put her at such a distance from people, it made talking distant, awkward. And this was not a time for distance. He still held her one hand, and she began to lightly stroke his forearm with the other. Finally, she broke her silence.

"I know that you love me. There was never any question in my mind about that. But are you sure, that you want me? That you're not just reacting to having been through such a trauma?"

She paused, watching his face.

"I love you more than anything in this world, Gabe. But I also want you to be happy. I don't want you to settle for me, because you're afraid of losing me: you're never going to lose me, no matter what. I will never stop being your friend. You're stuck with me."

She almost added until the day you die, but caught herself. She smiled at him, but there was pain behind it. She looked down at her lap, and a lock of hair fell forward into her face.

"I will always love you, Gabe - I've loved you since I was sixteen years old. But I'd rather only be your friend than have you only be with me out of obligation, and miss out on a chance at real love. You deserve to be truly happy."

She raised her head to look at him, pursing her lips.

"And they're Ewok slippers."

The corners of her mouth turned up into a half smile.

EOS Nomad

Ashley grinned with perverse pleasure as Zach spilled creamer all over the counter, distracted by the outfit she'd worn to bed. It was a somewhat graphic visual for what she was trying to achieve.

"Yeah, it's pretty sexy on you... but... I think I'd like it better on the floor."

Coming up behind her, put his lips to her neck.

Zach said:
"Yeah, it does look a bit tight. Allow me to just make you more comfortable."

He reached around and undid the front clasp, and sliding it off her shoulders. His touch was electric, and she sighed, leaning in to him.

Zach said:
"Much better, no?"

She purred to him in response, "You read my mind..."

He started cooking bacon in one of the skillets he had taken from the cabinet. Cooking bacon! She picked up two of the eggs she hadn't cracked yet and held them up in front of her, one in each hand.

"I saved you eggs for the French Toast. Think these are large enough?"

She arched an eyebrow at him before handing them over, then making a point to brush against the back of him as she went to the refrigerator and got out some mushrooms, peppers and cheese to add into the scrambled eggs. Then did it again on her way back to her spot at the range. Pouring the batter into the skillet, she used a spatula to cook the eggs, humming a bawdy Italian drinking song as she cooked. Then slid the scrambled eggs onto a large plate and set it on the island. Brushing her hands against each other, her task finished, she took on a conversational tone of voice as she stood next to where he still cooked.

"So, Zach...I was passing by that place where they do the massages and cut your hair and paint your nails and stuff? And they were advertising this thing."

She slipped off the panties she still wore and let them fall to the floor.

"See they glue these little crystals all over here-"

She traced the top of her bikini line.

"And make a design. It's called the 'vajazzle'. Now, do you think I ought to get that?"

Ash picked up her cup of black coffee and hopped up on the counter, sipping the hot liquid and looking at him demurely over the top of the mug, as if she'd just asked him if she should buy flood insurance.

Haleigh: "If they don't do THAT their other option is to kill you. Is THAT what you want? You really gonna commit suicide by Six after everything I've done to keep you alive at Hellfire?"

Persephone didn't bother to respond knowing whatever she would say would fall on deaf ears. She didn't WANT to die--far from it. But she wasn't living in a fantasy world either. She knew after all the attacks and attempts on the Six's lives, the last thing on their minds was to rescue her; Blaze made that very clear. And the fact that Haleigh thought about rescue made it even clearer to her that she believed there was a way out. It was the reason she had been holding back and NOT attacking the Six. She had hope whereas Persephone did not. Persephone already resigned to only being able to trust herself in this fucked up situation, vocalizing as much.

Haleigh: "Come on Seph. Don't be such a cynical bitch. How could I NOT care about you, by now?"

"Because Cynicism has kept me alive."

She responded curtly and truthfully.

Haleigh: "You're not so different from Ava. A little darker, a little more brutal. A little more like ME, in other words. So of course I like you just for that."

Persephone couldn't help but allow a small smile to tug on the corners of her lips. Finally, someone recognizing that Ava wasn't this innocent angel. They wouldn't have been crosstime alters if they weren't alike in SOME way--Persephone just an unbridled version. The main difference between her and Ava was that Ava didn't WANT to hurt her friends. She loved them, wholeheartedly. But Persephone COULD and WOULD to survive.....and also because she fucking hated some of them. Blaze.

Haleigh: "And I know.... the only reason you didn't leave Hellfire last night, and run off with the Red Knight to that snowy little cabin, was because of me."

What small smile she had immediately faded as she looked over at Haleigh, her eyes pained again after hearing her mention how Persephone could of left with Alek to a secluded cabin in the woods but didn't because of her sister. She wanted so badly to leave, to go with him. To have that snowy cabin be their escape from the world. But that cabin was built on a foundation of lies and betrayal. And she wasn't going to abandon Haleigh, even though she felt utterly abandoned by everyone else.

Haleigh: "So stop keeping me at arms length, okay? Stop dismissing everything I say and do as something I'm only doing for Ava. Because if all I cared about was Ava? Then I WOULD let Cameron try to rid her of you."

Persephone's eyes met with Haleigh's, the room silent for a long moment. She wanted so badly to not believe her. To tell her she was full of shit and she couldn't trust her or ANYONE else anymore. But damn it all, she did....she believed her despite everything screaming at her not to. Persephone's eyes softened, becoming glassy and reflective.

"Thank you."

Her words soft but sincere. Her line of sight lowering as she stared silently at the floor. She knew now, without a shadow of a doubt, she would get Haleigh out of Hellfire and back to the Six where she belonged. Haleigh deserved happiness and to live without being stuck in an endless game of chess. She deserved so much more than she was given....because she had given so much more to Persephone in that moment than anyone could have realized.

Clearing her throat, Persephone ended the deafening silence by mentioning she would go back to Hellfire, but if anyone said anything about what happened with Alek, she would cut their tongues out. Haleigh laughed.

Haleigh: "Please text me first so I don't miss the show."

"Noted."

She countered with a small smirk before walking back to the coffee table to refill her scotch. She changed the subject to last night's attack.

"So you saw. What happened last night with The Six."

Haleigh: "I was nearby, in case you needed backup. Mystique beat me to the punch, and then the whole thing was over before I could drop in and say hi to the old gang."

"Oh i'm sure they would of loved that. Pitch forks , torches, and all."

She rolled her eyes.

"Blaze hunted ME down. The bitch wants me dead in a bad way."

Persephone gulped down the remaining finger of scotch, knowing Blaze's reasons WERE legitimate. Because if Persephone was in Blaze's shoes, she would have done the same damn thing. Luckily she wasn't, Blaze's shoes were tacking as hell.

"I hope you're not still attached. Because I'm going to extinguish your sister [Blaze] in the most painful way possible."

Haleigh: "And then HER sister will kill you, and I'll be all alone at Hellfire. Can't say I'm looking forward to it."

Inhaling a deep breath. Spellbinder. She really didn't want to face her....hell last night when she was taunting Blaze about calling her sister she had secretly hoped she WOULDN'T do it. Because Spellbinder WAS her Darkchilde. And the thought of having to fight her--HURT her....it killed Persephone. She couldn't deny the bond she shared with Hecate's decedent, in ALL timelines. But if she had to in order to survive....she would.

"You won't be alone."

She finally said, taking a seat on the couch.

"I'm not going to leave you."

She knew by killing Blaze, she would have the wrath of not only Spellbinder but Shadow Weaver as well.

"But Firebird wants me to dead. And i'm going to have to defend myself."

Haleigh needed to hear the harsh reality of the situation. Blaze was a threat to Persephone that needed to be eliminated.

"If it's between me and her....she's ash."

He had said what he wanted to say, putting all his cards on the table. Zizi looked taken aback, which was understandable considering the circumstances and all the bullshit that had went on the day before. But the silence was killing him. He just wanted confirmation....a yes....no...slap. Anything. Finally, she pushed herself out of her chair and onto her bed, sitting closely next to him. He held her hand, squeezing it tightly as she looked at him.

Zizi: "I know that you love me. There was never any question in my mind about that. But are you sure, that you want me? That you're not just reacting to having been through such a trauma?"

It was a fair question. One he understood her asking. But he shook his head gently.

"No. If anything this situation clarified it for me. I was so stuck in my head because of my own insecurities, I couldn't see what was right in front of me this whole time."

He said truthfully and with conviction.

Gabe: "I love you more than anything in this world, Gabe. But I also want you to be happy. I don't want you to settle for me, because you're afraid of losing me: you're never going to lose me, no matter what. I will never stop being your friend. You're stuck with me."

Gabe's eyes furrowed as she looked down. Settle? He wanted to scoff that she would even remotely think of anyone just settling for her. But he refrained, knowing she was being honest with him....and it killed him to know she really thought that way. Lifting her chin and guiding her to look at him, he ran his fingers gently along her cheek, brushing the piece of hair that fell forward back and tucking it behind her ear.

"There is no settling with you Liz. Don't you get that by now? People love you. They LOVE you so much. Those people outside? The people at the Sanctuary? The Six? My MOM. [laughing] They absolutely adore you. And do you want to know why? Because you're an amazing person. You're smart, you're funny, you're kind. You give mess ups like me chance after chance even when we don't deserve it. This? [gesturing to the chair] Means nothing. It doesn't define who you are OR your WORTH. Do you understand me?"

He didn't waver in his eye contact, making sure she SAW him. HEARD him. Because she needed to understand that she more than just her wheelchair. She was Elizabeth York and she was fucking amazing.

Gabe: "I will always love you, Gabe - I've loved you since I was sixteen years old. But I'd rather only be your friend than have you only be with me out of obligation, and miss out on a chance at real love. You deserve to be truly happy."

"I am happy when i'm with you. And if that's not real love, then I don't know what is."

With his hand on the base of her neck, Gabe slowly leaned in and gently touched his lips against hers. He felt the electricity as they met, but more importantly, he didn't feel Zizi try and pull away. He then deepened the kiss, parting his lips so he could taste her as his hand moved to her waist, gently trailing down her hip. Finally, they parted, but only slightly. He couldn't help but smile, his heart racing. It wasn't like the first time they kissed....this was SO much better. So much more real and untainted by others opinions. It was just them.

Zizi:
"And they're Ewok slippers."

Gabe chuckled.

"Well excuuuse me. You know i've always been a bigger Trek fan."

He grinned at the taboo statement.

[jokingly] "There, I said it."

Running his hand down the side of her face with a smile, it was nice to just joke with her to ease the tension a bit. But as he gently ran the pad of his thumb along her jaw, he looked into her eyes sincerely with warmth and understanding.

"We don't have to rush things, Liz. Just take it one step at a time....whatever you feel comfortable with, okay?"

Zizi's Room

Zizi loved him so much, and had for so long, and suddenly she was getting everything she had ever wanted. But she knew he would make any sacrifice to give her what she wanted, and she couldn't ask that of him, as much as she wanted to.

I was so stuck in my head because of my own insecurities, I couldn't see what was right in front of me this whole time."

She looked down.

"I've never been able to tell you because...I was afraid I would scare you away. And I need you."

He put his finger under her chin, tilted it up, and she looked up at him, vulnerable, her heart laid bare. He brushed her hair out of her face, touched her cheek, and she held her breath. It felt as if time had stopped around them.

Gabe said:
"There is no settling with you Liz. Don't you get that by now? People love you. They LOVE you so much. Those people outside? The people at the Sanctuary? The Six? My MOM. [laughing] They absolutely adore you. And do you want to know why? Because you're an amazing person. You're smart, you're funny, you're kind. You give mess ups like me chance after chance even when we don't deserve it. This? [gesturing to the chair] Means nothing. It doesn't define who you are OR your WORTH. Do you understand me?"

The thing was, she didn't feel defined by her chair. She had never thought there was anything she couldn't do. Except when it came to him.

Gabe said:
"I am happy when I'm with you. And if that's not real love, then I don't know what is."

Tears glimmered in her eyes as he leaned slowly towards her and kissed her lips softly. Her eyes closed, and the tears fell. She pressed her body against him, her hands going to his chest and then sliding up around his neck. His tongue parted her lips and it was as if an electric current coursed through her entire body, intensified as his hand moved to her waist, then rested on her hip. This time there was no awkwardness, no embarrassment or self-consciousness. There was only the two of them, her mind clear of everything but the love she felt for him. And she could feel his love pouring into her, and she no longer questioned whether he truly wanted her.

She felt dazed, light headed, as he pulled away just a bit. She blurted the first thing that came to mind:

Zizi said:
"And they're Ewok slippers."

Gabe said:
"Well excuuuse me. You know I've always been a bigger Trek fan. There, I said it."

"Blasphemy..."

She whispered, a smile playing on her lips as her eyes closed again. She pulled him down to her for another kiss, just as magickal as the first.

Gabe said:
"We don't have to rush things, Liz. Just take it one step at a time....whatever you feel comfortable with, okay?"

She nodded, running her finger along the stubble of his cheek down to his chin.

"Could you just...kiss me for a while?"

Gabe walked off without being healed by Miss D. That is damn near a crackhead move, but he probably has never been in a pickle like that. So we were now alone with Vivica.

We got ready to roll out when I had a thought.

Viv? Are these windows lined with Lexan? If not, that may have to change now. It's a damned shame, but it's our reality now.

We went to our floor and I held up a hand, Isis stopping as I scanned on all frequencies and did a physical sweep as sentient gas. I "returned' to her, and lowered my hand, and we entered. Miss D took a look around and then back to me.

It has been a while since we've been HERE.

:: She looks at Richard, and there's a flash of uncertainty on her face. Was she really allowing herself to commit to this??::

I saw the look and I placed my hands on her shoulders.

Look, if all of this is too much for now, we can stay at the Parthenon and ease our way back. It is all up to you. You can do that thing that Miss Karen did for Mike where he can walk through the door and end up at their real house. That way we can be close without necessarily being immersed right now. Whatever helps you be more comfortable.

Gabe: "I've never been able to tell you because...I was afraid I would scare you away. And I need you."

And that statement broke his heart. Because it would take someone as ruthless and murderous as Persephone to keep him away from her in any circumstance. But he didn't tell her as much, he decided to show her, gently kissing her until he felt her respond, pulling herself into him and wrapping her arms around his neck. That was when he deepened the kiss, using his hand to move down the length of her waist to her hip, gripping her. But finally, they broke the kiss but remained close.

He mentioned being a bigger Star Trek fan with a grin, Zizi smiling as she whispered between them.

Zizi: "Blasphemy."

He chuckled as she moved him to her lips again, Gabe more than willing to oblige. He moved his hand back up her waist, sliding it to her back and pulling her closer to him, hooking his arm around her body. He wanted to keep kissing her, feeling himself become aroused at the thought of doing more. But he knew he needed to take it slow. He didn't want to fuck this up like he had done countless times in the past. Down boy.

He parted their lips again, licking his own as his eyes met with hers.

"We don't have to rush things, Liz. Just take it one step at a time....whatever you feel comfortable with, okay?"

He felt her hand on his cheek, her fingers gently tracing a line along to his chin. His own hand buried into her thick wavy hair by the base of her neck.

Zizi: "Could you just...kiss me for a while?"

He smiled. And that right there was why she was different than any other woman he ever met.

"Sure thing, love."

He met her lips again with a heated kiss, more unrestrained than before as he pulled her legs across his lap so he could get her as close as possible. He felt like a kid again, making out while the girls parents were out in the livingroom. It was fun...sweet...and exactly what he wanted.

Zizi's Room, The Clocktower

Gabe pulled her into his lap, his arms around her. Her hands stayed around his neck, now and then touching his face, stroking his hair. Except for yesterday, it had been such a long time since anyone had even kissed her - and the day before it had happened so quickly and had been such a surprise that she hadn't had time to fully enjoy the sensation. But now it was different. She could feel every change in the pressure of his lips, the feel of his hands on her body just as erotic as if they were making love. In truth, she couldn't imagine a feeling more intense than this. And she never wanted it to stop.

"Gabriel..."

She whispered his name, a hint of wonder in her voice. That he was here, in her arms, and she in his. And also surprise that she had not yet woken up from this dream she'd had a thousand times before. She kissed his nose, his cheek, then softly the bruises on his neck. He smelled fresh and clean from his shower, the scent intoxicating. Her hands felt his body through his shirt, following the hard lines of muscles across his chest and through his shoulders to his arms. It hardly seemed possible that she was allowed to touch him like this. His closeness made every cell in her body tingle with delight - and need.

Still, they weren't sixteen anymore. He was a man now, with a man's needs and desires. And she could feel that he wanted her.

It was not that she didn't want him. There was nothing she wanted more than for him to make love to her, to hold her in his arms all night long, the two of them whispering to each other in the dark. Her body yearned for his, pulled like a magnet. But this was all that she could concede to him here, in this moment where even her heart cried out for more. For this, this was safe. There could be no disappointment with this simple expression of their love for each other. With this, she could be normal.

She pressed her forehead to his, speaking softly to him as they caught their breath.

"You know, you could have done this yesterday, when I was wearing a nice dress and makeup. Instead of when I look a mess, with my eyes all red and my face puffy, and I'm in my gym clothes..."

Her hands found the sides of his face, and she kissed him again with a smile on her lips, because she loved him, and he loved her, and it really didn't matter in the end.

East Harlem Safehouse

Persephone: You won't be alone. I'm not going to leave you.

Haleigh watched Seph walk over and sit back on the couch. She could tell her sister's rage had peaked and was subsiding. Seph was no longer making ominous threats, now she shifted to just talking. That was very good, it meant she was back in control.

Persephone: But Firebird wants me to dead. And I'm going to have to defend myself. If it's between me and her....she's ash.

Haleigh locked eyes with Seph. She knew that her sister was trying to prepare her. She knew that Seph was trying to make sure Haleigh wasn't lying to herself, and that this wasn't something said to pay lip service to any of the Queens. They were so far from Hellfire. They hadn't been followed, at least not by anything with a heartbeat or electrical impulse. They could say what they needed to here.

Haleigh was so tired of burying everything real, she was so tired of wearing the Scion mask, that she didn't even bother now. She met Seph's truths with a tortured gaze.

"I may be stubborn but I'm not stupid. I know we're going to have to face them sooner or later. I know they have a right to be out for our blood. I know it's going to be a fight to the death."

She moved from the windowsill to an armchair, bringing the scotch and refilling them both.

"You aren't the only one who's earned their hatred. If Delilah doesn't want me dead by now, she's too forgiving to survive. I did every horrible thing I could make myself do to her, and threatened worse. And Cameron.... I sent him a video of the bear and me. I know it broke his heart, I think I even felt it. Given the pain I've put them through, and that kid I accidentally shot at the Sanctuary.... I don't blame any of them for wanting me dead."

She drank some, and then stared into her glass.

"But what choice did I really have, except to betray them? My mother threatened them both, and wouldn't she have done worse to them? I'm starting to believe Kelly is right... it would've been kinder just to kill them. But I don't want to cross that bridge until I have to."

She melted into his arms as they kissed, and he wondered how it took him so long to get to that moment. All the fears and doubts he had before were left in his penthouse after Ava attacked him. He knew without a shadow of a doubt that he wanted to be with Zizi. Especially after realizing how quickly their lives could end by the hands of the enemy.

Zizi: "Gabriel..."

Oh for fuck sake, the tone of her voice made him want to come right there. His hand slid up her back and under her shirt, feeling the softness of her skin until his fingers met her bra clasp. He instinctively wanted to unhook it and tear it off, but he shut his eyes as she kissed his face then his bruised neck, trying to control his breathing and his thoughts. He moved his hand away from her bra and down her spin, feeling every contour of her perfectly toned body. She ran her hands down his chest and arms, and at this point his pants were straining, and he questioned why the hell he pulled her onto his lap because it was quite obvious that he was very turned on at that point.

Groaning out softly, he muffled it with her lips one more time, knowing he could at least taste the sweetness of her lips and feel the heat of her tongue against his without question. He used his hand to pull her even closer into him, his other hand lightly brushing down the side of her breast before wrapping around to her back. God damn this was torturous.....but slow...he needed to take it slow. What was that stupid saying? The slow horse wins the race...the fast rabbit beats a turtle? A turtle races a fox? FUCK his head was now in his pants and he couldn't think.

Zizi broke their kiss, resting her forehead against his. Shutting his eyes he tried to ease his labored breathing.

Zizi: "You know, you could have done this yesterday, when I was wearing a nice dress and makeup. Instead of when I look a mess, with my eyes all red and my face puffy, and I'm in my gym clothes..."

"You look beautiful."

He whispered between them, not caring whether she had a ball gown or rags on.

"Yesterday....today....tomorrow....just beautiful."

He smiled, his hand brushing back the hair from her face, not wanting the moment to end as he just stared into her eyes. But in light of how amazing it was being with her, they still needed to face the realities of what had just happened. And frankly, he really could use Dominique's healing abilities.

Clearing his throat, he gave her a crooked smile.

"Maybe i'll take Dominique up on her offer...i'm starting to sound like i'm 16 again."

He chuckled.

Xavier placed his hands on hers, stopping her gently but firmly as he looked into her eyes.

No ma'am. No you will not.

:: Alycia looked at his hands on her's for a moment. He had such nice...smooth hands. But was he actually trying to tell her what to do!? After a moment, she gave him that "EXCUSE ME!?" look with her hazel eyes.::

Not alone. Look, I know that sometimes it feels like accepting help is somehow imposing, but I honestly am here for you. And while we will retire the term manservant between us, I find it NO IMPOSITION to be of service.

:: She relaxed herself a bit, after overcoming the initial impulse to resist & push his hands away. She was a strong, proud, fiercely independent woman. She'd made one hell of a journey, and her return to "man's world" was one full of intrigue and promise...but all of that glow had been dimmed by Cameron King, and she's been slipping into an older man, the cold, BALL BUSTER that she'd been known for being during her years as an attorney, and as the ADA. ::

:: Xavier was almost like a tonic, an ANTIDOTE to the toxic betrayal that she'd just endured::

Here...

Xavier takes the wastebasket from Alycia.

:: He removed his hands from her's....too soon.::

YOU find and secure that which you wish to keep that has made the floor. I will secure all glass and then, on a secondary sweep, I will take care of everything else. It is my pleasure to help you. You have enough on your plate. Now go. PLEASE.

::she sighed as she relented and stood up. His help WOULD be beneficial. She could be ready to receive Delilah properly in a tidy office in half the time, and they'd be able to better focus on the important task ahead of them.::

Okay.

:: She turned , but then paused and looked back at Xavier. ::

DAMN he's FINE!

Thank you, Xavier.

Things have been a bit...DIFFICULT for me. Your gentility is appreciated.

Xavier turned to begin a high speed sweep of the glass in the room, the most obvious source of hazard and detritus...

:: she watched him for a moment, before making her way out into the hall, and then down the stairs to lower floors. The medical staff had things well in hand in the infirmary, and the building was running as it should. Alycia was glad that she was so close by to the sanctuary, and it seemed like she might have reason to expand her communication network, if her meeting with Simon went well. ::

:: After taking care of a few things, she returned back up to her office on the 2nd to the top floor of the building. ::

Thankfully, when I vented my frustration, I limited it to specific things in this room. You can just... remove ALL of that...

:: gesturing to the pile of broken pictures, and other debris that she and Xavier had collected::

I have about 30 minutes until I expect Delilah here.

You know what would be nice? Some sage...to help cleanse my building after all the negativity and distress that has been within these walls...AND some floral arrangements for my office, and several other rooms!

As Persephone gave Haleigh a large dose of reality, she could see the tortured look in her sisters eyes at the thought of having to face their former team. That she might have to actually KILL them in order to survive. She may have left them in order to protect them from Diana, but that was a fools errand. There was no protecting them, because Diana was using Haleigh as her weapon of choice against them ALL.

Haleigh: "I may be stubborn but I'm not stupid. I know we're going to have to face them sooner or later. I know they have a right to be out for our blood. I know it's going to be a fight to the death."

"Theirs. Not yours."

She corrected. It would be a cold day in hell before she let any of them touch Haleigh, let alone hurt or kill her. Haleigh made her way over from the window to the couch, taking a seat in the armchair closest to Persephone. She poured them both another round, Persephone swirling the liquid in her glass absentmindedly.

Haleigh: "You aren't the only one who's earned their hatred.

"If one shot kid and a sex tape is all it takes for them to turn their back on you, then you don't need them. And if they can't see what you're trying to do for them, then they don't deserve you either."

She said matter of factly, her tone cold and protective. Haleigh hadn't laid a finger on ANY of them....except Bishop, but that asshole didn't count. It pissed Persephone off that the Six would so easily turn on Haleigh over a few threats. They didn't deserve her loyalty. None of them, INCLUDING her 'real' sisters.

Persephone looked at Haleigh as she stared into her glass, looking somber; the mask fully off. It was amazing what being out of Hellfire did in terms of honesty and emotions being shown. She could see Haleigh's struggle....how she wanted to protect the Six without having to hurt them.

Haleigh: "But what choice did I really have, except to betray them? My mother threatened them both, and wouldn't she have done worse to them? I'm starting to believe Kelly is right... it would've been kinder just to kill them. But I don't want to cross that bridge until I have to."

"Then don't."

Persephone placed her hand on Haleigh's, gently squeezing it as she leaned in closer to her sister.

"I'll cross it for you."

And she would. She would take them all out so Haleigh wouldn't have to carry the guilt of knowing she killed the people she loved. Hell, she had already attacked nearly half of the Birds and Six, and almost killed nearly a quarter of them. She was already a mile down the path of no return.

"If and when the time comes. I'm not letting you do this alone....and i'm not letting you take on the brunt of this guilt."

Rubbing Haleigh's hand, Persephone lifted her scotch, tilting it toward her sister.

"Where in this together, okay?"

The Parthenon – Delilah’s Suite

Delilah had pulled on a comfortable and casual outfit, and was finishing pulling her hair back off her face when her phone started to ring. She thought it was Alycia, wanting to change their meeting time, so she glanced at the display. Her mouth ran dry. Maxim, it said. She reached down and silenced the ring. He had told her he would call. She stared at it for a few moments, then picked the phone up, and shot him a text.

>> I don’t want to talk to you.

>> Maxim: I love you. I need to explain.

She blocked his number.

Delilah took in a shaky breath. She didn’t want to fall to pieces again, but she knew she would if she just sat there staring at her phone. So she picked it up, and dialed the number on the card that sat on her vanity.

“Hello, Gavin? It’s Delilah. I just wanted to thank you for last night. You really saved me, and I want you to know I appreciate it. Oh, and, did you want to set up that dinner? To talk about the foundation? Maybe we could get together this week sometime, if you’re free?”
