She was driving. They had picked up the food, and were zooming downtown to the Clocktower. Zach had inexplicably gotten wine at the pizza shop.
Zach: “Well, I know we usually drink beer, but this is a good vintage, and wine goes better with pizza than you might expect.”
An amused smile played on her lips.
"Whatever you want babe."
They were on the FDR, and Zach was being quiet - probably marveling at how good a driver she was. He brought up their wedding, and meeting with a "wedding planner" and a "caterer". She didn't want him stressing out over her, so she told him it would be fine if he didn't want to bother with a whole ceremony, and just go to the courthouse. They could even have Elvis marry them, like she'd seen on tv.
Zach: “What, you mean like run off to Vegas and elope? Honestly, I can’t tell if you’re being serious, babe.”
Hmm. He didn't sound too keen on the idea.
"Well, I don't want you to think you have to spend a lot of money. As long as we're married, it doesn't have to be fancy for me."
She thought for a second.
"But maybe sometime we could go see one of those Elvis shows, for fun."
Then she brought up the sacrifice. Would John be able to take care of that part?
Zach: “Ah, I’m not sure. But it sounds like there are some traditions you want to uphold after all.”
Maybe that wasn't something they did anymore at weddings. Honestly, the whole thing was confusing. She shrugged at him.
"It's just been a long time since I thought about weddings. Or went to one."
She glanced at him.
"We could just serve boar at the wedding. Freya should be happy with whatever she can get nowadays, honestly."
Zach: “Listen, sweetheart. I don’t want to make it sound like I don’t care, but we can do the wedding however you like. I want my bride to be happy. And don’t you worry about the expense. We’re only going to do this once.”
She reached out in between shifting to squeeze his hand. That last sentence made it seem like he wanted an actual wedding.
"I want it to be the way you'd like, Zach."
Except, she had no idea what they might be like.
"I can get Zizi to help me. She's probably got a file on her computer with everything already all planned for her own wedding."
Ash rolled her eyes. And then she remembered something, and brightened.
"Oh! I did see something about this thing called a bachelor party. We get to go to a strip club, and get drunk...it'll be awesome!"
