Marvel's Secret Wars (2015) vs DC's Convergence

So I know I shouldn't be shocked but somehow DC and Marvel have both made the same event for the same year, completely independent of one other with nearly the same premise. Huge Big Bad gathers different iterations of heroes from alternate dimensions to have massive Battle Royal. I think while these events may be fun there's definitely some over-saturation going on for this to happen.

Why WHY are they doing this?

Already, I get confused between Marvel's multiverse storyline and DC's multiverse storyline.

They get rid of characters, they bring them back, Earth 1, Earth 2 (PS that event sucks)...could I just read some comics already? And don't get me started on every single Batman title having its own continuity.

CBR has a nice guide on Convergence though.

Sounds like they are asking me to spend a lot of money to be confused and annoyed.

And you know what? I don't care if Superman has been young for 50 years. You don't have to constantly explain that by totally changing everything and rebooting.

If they want to fix mistakes, fix mistakes, but they don't need to turn everything upside down to do it. Because let's face it, one week of Cassandra Cain and Babs in a wheelchair isn't going to fix those ones anyway.
