Ororo's ghost story, part 3

At this distand, Nicolas could use his senses very well, and Alison looked the part, decked out for SOME occasion, although he hoped against hope it would be a happy one.

what do you want?

To talk...about what has been going on. Indeed aboput everything that has happened in the last year.

Nicolas placed the vase on a nearby tabel and stepped forward a bit more. The arrangement he had selected was Alison's favorite according to Cameron himself.

You had said since the accident last year that there was something going on. You were right...and we were wrong to move forward without heeding that warning. I simply thought you were having a difficult time and I was not mindful enough of the gifts you posses and now, some of my crewmen have suffered for that. I know that you are very much aware of what has occurred in the last two nights and with the Valiant. I would like to discuss your grandfather's journal and how it links to what is happening now.

Yeah, sure. She thought back as he requested more info on the Dane.... and then she paused a second as he explained. Wait a minute.... you're telling me that a piece of wood survived over a HUNDRED YEARS in salt water? Good grief.... this just keeps getting stranger.... I should stop being so surprised.

She went silent for a while, as they drove, and he talked to Karen... she searched for information. But it was hard to come by.... mainly because it was SO long ago... she relied on whether or not any kinds of records were ever archived electronically, which were slim odds because Thunder Bay was a relatively small town that kept to itself. She DID find a few things... nothing really helpful.

They arrived at the church grounds.... and Haleigh soaked in the surroundings. It was beautiful place... dark and brooding... elegant and ethereal.

The Elizabeth Dane.... it was a clipper ship that tragically sank in the early 1900s.... it shipwrecked just before this church was built.... the lighthouse was built BECAUSE of the Elizabeth Dane... and the small settlement at Thunder Bay declared itself a township shortly thereafter.

A small amount of information but it was all she could get. They found Alison... and Nicolas tried to talked to her. Haleigh stayed quiet at first... she wanted to wait to see how Alison would respond.

the gothic church

:: Alison continued to recline in the large, oversized, "throne like" plush chair and ottoman that faced the fire place. she was hidden from view this way but a small table next to her showed a crystal goblet and an opaque glass bottle filled with the elixir hemlock. it was obvious what THAT was for.::

:: Nicolas spoke, as he set the vase of flowers down. Alison still did not appear before their faces.::

so you think you can just come here...and TALK?

:: she asks in a cold, disbelieving tone.::

and you bring this....this OUTSIDER, this STRANGER?

:: Haleigh may not have known the woman was a precog among other things.::

just who do you think you are, Nicolas? You overestimate your worth ...you may be the business to those silly girls in town, but not to me. Go back to Karen and the rest of them...she's more your speed...short sighted and out of touch.

:: the tone of her voice was cold and airy. it was obvious that she was not one to bite her tongue. Nicolas knew it and Haleigh was about to find out. Alison had no PERSONAL issue with Haleigh, but if she was with Nicolas, she couldnt be up to any good either.::

:: the vase with the flowers caught Alison's attention for a moment as she turned her head to see them on a table across the way. a beautifull display of black orchids. it WAS a thoughtfull gesture. He could only have known that from::

Cameron

:: she slowly sat up and rose from her throne like chair, moving out from behind it to reveal her tight, svelt feminine form in her outfit. she looked at Nicolas and Haleigh , glaring at them with her cobalt blue eyes as the fire place's mystic flame burned unchanged. she slowly walked over to the vase of orchids and looked upon them, touching them.::

you brought these?

:: she said with less hostility.::

Nicolas stood, taking it all in. He did not need access to her mind to know that this was a year in the making. A year in which she had not been heard, been understood. He stood and let it wash over him, even smirked as she mentioned the "silly girls" in town.

As she seemed prepared to REALLY get into it, she paused, looking at the flowers. She got up, looking at him as she asked the question.

you brought these?

Nicolas nodded his head. Seeing her now, he would have hugged the Seer if she would have allowed it. He actually did miss her, even though they never REALLY got along.

Cameron...we shared a lot, including your own likes and dislikes. If I had been a better friend to him this last year, I would have made sure his sister would have received more of these on special occasions, just as he would have done.

Nicolas takes a step forward.

Alison, I understand that we made a mistake before, that you, like all of us are hurting. Please help me keep innocent people from sharing our fate. Please tell me what the journal contains so we can find a way to make this right. Cameron would have wanted that.

I'll see you later this afternoon at Vivan's (the dress salon) for our fitting?

"Yeah....i'll be there. See you later."

:: Her hesitant tone would be obvious, but Ava agreed to continue on with tonight's festivities. Hanging up, the brunette sighed out heavily as she stood from her bed and walked over toward her bay window. Pushing back the curtain Ava peered out toward the harbor.... ::

"Please let tonight go smoothly.."

:: Murmuring to herself, deep down she knew tonight would be anything BUT smooth, but it was the only way for her to talk herself into getting all dolled up for what could very well be the town's demise. ::

the downtown area

<< after hanging up with Ava, she talked with Blaze. Her sister had tried searching for some things on the internet and the picture, the artists representation of Thunder Bay with the waters of Arklay Pointe and the ghostly fog with the skull effect...and the priests huddled on the island...it really seemed...>>

bizarre!!

<< as she ran her finger over the printed copy.>>

It looks like something you would see for a depictation of the witch trials in europe from the dark ages or some other unholy event with a cursed past....

<< ghosts, bizarre things, snakes appearing and disappearing, an unearthly fog, what the hell was going on.>>

I have no idea what to make of this. I'm not the town historian, Alison is...but going to see her is like going to the dentist. pretty much everyone dreads it.

<< she didnt know Nicolas and Haleigh were there now.>>

Im gonna take this with me, and show it to Ava. If we have time, maybe we can go to Alison with it. This could help my mother and Mike in some way with all this strange shit that's been going on.

<< Morgan grabbed her keys, kissing Tinkerbell on the forehead as she passed by the table.>>

i'll be back to pick you up in a couple hours Blaze. If you leave, just call me and tell me where you are...and please, be carefull okay?

<< the sisters hug and Morgan says goodbye as she rushes out and jumps into her jaguar to take off into town. meeting ava, another appointment at the Thunder & Lightning spa, then the hair stylist and dress fitting. it was such an involved thing to look this good :D but in the end, it was merely upkeep on what was bewitching perfection ;) Morgan and Ava would be the belles of the ball...to the envy of most other women and the desire of all the men [except the gay ones ]>>

<< as she zoomed into her parking spot, she stepped out and the afternoon breeze kissed her face. there was a hint of whistle in the wind and the skies above were so gray. a sign of t hings to come? the downtown area was more active, many stores and boutiques had decorations indicating the festivities for the evening. more people were out and about...and all Morgan could think was...>>

what if this turns into a blood bath! what the hell are we going to do!?

<< she was distracted, lost in thought as she starred at the picture Blaze had given her and didnt see a car coming down the street...straight for her!>>

<< at the last moment, the car BLOWS its horn, startling Morgan as she gasps and back pedals...missing her step in her high heel as she falls back onto the street hard. Ava who was waiting for Morgan in the diner on that side of the street would see her friend narrowly avoid getting hit by a car...and FALLING DOWN.>>

:: Sitting in a cute little corner diner waiting for Morgan, Ava had already ordered herself a cup of hazelnut coffee which the waitress placed in front of her before departing. Picking up the large mug she began to gently blow on the hot liquid before taking a small sip and placing it back on the table. It had already been a rather eventful day, so to be able to just sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee was great welcome to the goddess. ::

:: While flipping through the diner's menu, the blaring sound of a car horn caused Ava to look out the window and see Morgan standing in the path of the vehical. Gasping as she watched Morgan fall to the street, Ava quickly got up and ran out of the diner and over to her friend. ::

"Morgan!'

:: Morgan would hear the sound of heals clacking on the pavement as Ava approached her from behind. Wind blew back her hair as she kneeled down, grasping Morgan's arm. ::

"Are you okay?!"

the gothic church

:: Nicolas nodded as Alison inspected the orchids. she did her best to hide the flicker of emotion in her cobalt blue eyes as she gently ran her manicured nails over the soft petals::

Nicolas said:
Cameron...we shared a lot, including your own likes and dislikes. If I had been a better friend to him this last year, I would have made sure his sister would have received more of these on special occasions, just as he would have done.

:: as Nicolas spoke of Cameron. Alison closed her eyes for a moment. Cameron may have been a hot head, and he may have been a bit of ass more often than not...but he was her baby brother. Where she was cold and intimidating, Cameron could be warm and captivating. It was no wonder he made friends with Nicolas and had enjoyed a hot and heavy romance with Ava. He was also a Telepath/Empath, the oposite of Alison's Telekinetic/Precog(Witch) together, the brother and sister could do great things and unlike Nicolas and Alison who often were RIVALS due to their telekinetic abilities and the different ways they manifested, Cameron and Nicolas found much common ground over their mutual telepathic abilities.::

::Nicolas takes a step forward.::

Nicolas said:
Alison, I understand that we made a mistake before, that you, like all of us are hurting. Please help me keep innocent people from sharing our fate. Please tell me what the journal contains so we can find a way to make this right. Cameron would have wanted that.

::Alison opened her eyes and looked upon Nicolas and Haleigh. ::

If your bringing these flowers was a pitiful attempt to soften me up, I would have detected it with my seer's eye, but i do not see that. I believe you you are here out of genuine concern. Of all of "them" (referring to the ones Alison no longer would deal with) I realize that you are probably the most genuine but even YOU fell short when it mattered most. i would have thought...that as a telepath who was on par with my brother, that you would have picked up something from Cameron, some sort of psychic feedback. I felt it through my bond with him as his sister...which transcends my psi screen. His death was NOT meant to happen that night. NOTHING that happened was. It was all as unnatural as this fog that has visited this town the last two days. Whatever happened...it was so unnatural that my precognition could not detect it!

:: a very disturbing fact. it was another reason why Alison had taken this so hard... so PERSONAL. at one point during the initial blow out between Alison and Karen at the morgue when they had all gathered that evening, Karen and Delilah BOTH had questioned Alison's ability as a PRECOG. So VIOLENTLY had Alison reacted that it took NICOLAS to restrain her. No one bothered to ask WHY she couldnt have ANTICIPATED the event BEFOREhand, and because of that, they assumed that her assertion that it wasnt "natural" may just have been emotion and not fact based. it was a gross misunderstanding that added to the rift that now existed between them, but Nicolas seemed to be ready to cross that divide now. it took COURAGE for him to be here, to ADMIT this...and Alison heard that.::

I have been haunted by Cameron, it was very disjointed at first, his cries, his screams...his body trapped in that icy , watery grave...but...after a while, it became clear. There's a presence...a collection of lost souls, spirits that linger in the waters of arklay pointe. they...came to collect OUR loved ones as punishment...but its not over. I know that now in my heart.

:: she turned her back.::

you want to know about the journal? fine. But it will not change the course of events that is set for tonight. the spirits , the force that is propelled by them...it WILL play itself out tonight, regardless of what you learn, what you DO today.

:: she lead them from her office suite/study, down the narrow, dark hall which was illuminated by a few evenly placed candles that burned with mystic flames. they were lead into a large conference room of sorts with stone walls, a barrelvaulted ceiling and a large stone hearth....but in that wall above the hearth a large hole had been torn or blasted through it. Alison had the power to cause molecular acceleration, could she have done it? the space beyond that hole looked like it couldve housed something like a safe or some other hidden item. Alison directed them to sit at the same table where she had sat with karen and delilah yesterday::

i've been reading it, and just when i thought my dim view of this town couldnt plummet any further, it has.

Father Marble said:
March 9 : Met with James Marcus this evening for the first time. He stood in the shadows to prevent me from getting a clear look at his face. What a vile disease this G VIRUS is. He is a rich man with a cursed condition- caused by unspeakable experimentation by a mad docotor who has long since been driven out of town, but this does not prevent him from trying to better his situation and that of his comrades who are also infected.

March 11: Marcus' proposition is simple, He wants to move off Arklay Island and re-locate the entire colony just north of here. He has purchased a clipper ship called the Elizabeth Dane with part of his fortune and asks only for permission to settle here. I must balance my feelings of mercy and compassion for this poor man, with my revulsion at the thought of a colony of people infected with this terrifying G virus only a mile distant.

June 31rst : The six of us met tonight. From midnight until one o'clock, we planned the death of Marcus and his comrades. I tell myself that his gold will allow the church to be built, and our small settlement to become a township, but it does not soothe the horror that I feel being an accomplice to murder.

July 9: The deed is done. Marcus followed our false fire on shore and the ship broke apart on the rocks off Arklay pointe. We were aided by an unearthly fog that rolled in, as if Heaven sent, although God had no part in our actions tonight. Blake's gold will be recovered tomorrow, but may the Lord forgive us for what we've done.

:: there was nothing much that could be gained from the journal beyond what Alison read. there was a page in the journal that was missing, but then again several pages had fallen out from the journal's extreme old age. even the penmanship was of a different time.::

I did not go any further. But while you're here...I need you to realize that you cant stay here long...you're not going to be at the gathering tonight either.

Just keep your eyes and your ears open. You will be needed somewhere that you least expect.

downtown

<< Morgan was stunned as she hit the ground.>>

WHAT THE HELL!?

<< she said, half dazed. some of the people gathered near, buzzing, but Ava pushed through , reaching Morgan directly.>>

<< Morgan looked over as Ava knelt down to help her.>>

Ava...thank the goddess it's you. I don't know whats wrong with me today.

<< she looked down the way the car was last seen driving as the wind blew at both her and Ava.>>

yeah...i'm alright...

<< not caring what the "common folk" thought as the goddess helped the witch up.>>

I guess i was just being stupid and not paying attention. still..that driver was SO obnoxious. lucky for HIM i wasnt injured.

<< they stood up together as Morgan adjusted her outfit and glared at the on lookers.>>

what are YOU looking at? Is this the highlight of your wal mart shopping day? make yourselves usefull and go SOMEWHERE ELSE...from the look of it, most of you need to go to a stylist and fashion consultant.

<< she said haughtily as she and Ava dismissed the on lookers and headed back inside the cafe'. the sound of their high heels heralds their arrival.>>

<< huffing with annoyance>>

Oh Ava...i can't BELIEVE how that happened. But...it's this freaky picture.

<< she slid it over to Ava as they sat down together.>>

I'll take a hot green tea please.

<< she said to the waitress as they settled in.>>

Blaze found it online after doing a search on Thunder Bay!

look at this picture! it looks like something from a history book from the middle ages.

<< referring to the style , the way the figures looked at the eerie representation of the waters and the fog.>>

how the hell did she find it on the INTERNET of all places?

this can't be good.

:: Helping Morgan up to her feet, more people began to gather after witnessing what had just happened. Not concerned with them, Ava wanted to make sure that Morgan was alright. Morgan assured her she was fine to which Ava nodded before bending down and picking up her friend's purse which was still on the pavement. ::

what are YOU looking at? Is this the highlight of your wal mart shopping day? make yourselves usefull and go SOMEWHERE ELSE...from the look of it, most of you need to go to a stylist and fashion consultant.

:: Standing back up, Ava handed Morgan her purse before looking at the gaggle of people. Some began to immediately leave while others were hesitant to. ::

"GO. Show's over, people."

:: Shaking her head, finally the people got the hint and began to scatter as both Morgan and herself headed back into the diner and to their booth. ::

Oh Ava...i can't BELIEVE how that happened. But...it's this freaky picture.

<< she slid it over to Ava as they sat down together.>>

:: Picking up the picture, Ava examined it and lowered her brows. ::

"This looks like something out of a John Carpenter movie..." ;)

:: Laying the printed photo back down on the table Morgan began to ask questions....questions to which Ava didn't know the answers to. The photo was eerie and seemed to almost be a printed document of what was to come. Sighing out, Ava shook her head unaware of what to do. ::

this can't be good...

"No...it's not. Look, we really need to show this to someone. You mother....maybe even Alison. I mean, she IS still a precog. Yeah she may be walking around drunk 23 out of 24 hours of the day, but she's still pretty damn powerful and could know what's going on. Why all this stuff is happening."

:: Looking up at the waitress as she placed Morgan's tea down in front of her, Ava waited for the woman to leave before looking back at her friend. ::

"It couldn't hurt, right?"

the John Carpenter comment was cute. nice nod to the inspiration behind this story :D ;)

Nicolas swallowed hard at the facts as she laid them bare. His connection to Cameron was only surpassed by the blood bond shared by his sister before him. He spoke of what happened that night.

That night, I had two people that I could have detected nearly anywhere on Earth telepathically and telekinetically die before I could move a muscle. Back then I had hoped that your precognition and telekinesis would have succeeded where my own powers had failed. It seems we had quite a bit in common on that night. I am sorry that I did not do more before and after that night.

Nicolas swallowed again, feeling for Alison, especially having to endure what she seemed to say was at least weeks of haunting by Cameron. He placed a reassuring hand quickly on her shoulder, then turned as she walked past to follow her.

Nicolas followed Alison as she led them to the other office area where the journal lay. For someone who had been in such a bad way, Alison had cleaned up and looked quite good today. It was an opinion he decided to keep to himself, as she still was "his boy's" sister and he just couldn't quite look at her THAT way. As they arrived, he noticed the huge hole, but he decided not to ask of it. Alison would tell what she wished when she chose.

She read the account of the murder of the G virus victims, and of the fog that claimed them as they ran aground. The same fog that they had endured for two nights now. He shook his head as she explained that she could divine nothing further from it. He couldn't either. Even his TK could raise no hidden wording or bleached impression that made any sense. Alison addressed him again.

I did not go any further. But while you're here...I need you to realize that you cant stay here long...you're not going to be at the gathering tonight either.

Just keep your eyes and your ears open. You will be needed somewhere that you least expect.

Nicolas stood and walked up to Alison. He did the most dangerous thing he had done in two nights...hell TWO YEARS!! He HUGGED her tightly, simply glad to be near a part of Cameron again.

It was good to see you. Take care of yourself and BE CAREFUL. I hope to see you soon.

With that, Nicolas nodded to Haleigh and exited the church, silently opening the truck for his new friend and climbing in, nearly lost in thought as he ran back what he had learned.

downtown

You're right. We don't have any other choice if we want to figure this out.

<< looking at her Anne Klein II watch, Morgan nodded as Ava mentioned the idea of seeing Alison.>>

My mom told me that she and Delilah went up there yesterday. Alison THREW them out, LITERALLY. Alison hates my mother and Delilah after what they said to her at the morgue the night that...everyone died.

<< Morgan couldnt believe she could speak about a group casualty like this. But that was one of the things that bonded this town's elite together.>>

My mom said somethings out of hurt and anger...she didnt mean them, but Alison took it so badly. You remember how she reacted so VIOLENTLY ...it took NICOLAS to hold her back from my mom and Delilah.

I dont hate Alison, but Ive never been able to find the way...the WORDS to say to her ever since. She wont see us, she never comes into town and ...like you said, she's drunk just about every waking moment of the day yet she never realy SHOWS it.

<< sigh>>

Well, the only way we're gonna get there and not miss our fitting is by...

<< leaning in a bit close and keeping her tone low.>>

Teleporting.

<< but even before they could go any further... her mother and Delilah happened b y at that very moment. Morgan and her Mother locked eyes and shortly after, The mayor and her assistant entered the cafe'. Morgan stood to hug her mother.>>

Hello mother.

<< she took Delilah's hand into her own.>>

Hey Dee.

<< Ava and Morgan's plan to teleport to Alison's would have to wait for the moment.>>

to the mayor's office

<< now in downtown, making a few necessary stops before heading to her office in City Hall, the mayor happened upon her daughter and her daughter's best friend Ava.>>

Let's go inside and greet them, shall we Delilah?

Delilah: Sure thing. We've got a buffer of time before we have to be at the office.

:: the two smartly dressed women come inside and Karen greets her daughter and Ava warmly.::

You two must be down here for the spa and dress fittings. I'm having a rep from Vivan's come to the office with my dress. I wont have time between now and tonight's gathering in the town square so we're combining things where we can...

<< she noticed Morgan and Ava both looked a bit serious at that moment.>>

What is it? What's the matter you two? you look as though youve seen a...

<< catching sight of the ghostly picture on the table, Karen didnt even finish her thought.>>

oh....I see.

<< She looked at Delilah, who in turn looked around to make sure no one else was nearby eaves dropping or spying.>>

Girls, come with Delilah and I to the office and let's talk there.

<< and with that, the group walks outside. Where Karen's driver shuttles them all to City hall, once inside, they arrive in Karen's executive office. Delilah instructs the staff to hold all calls and for security to be tight. Only Mike, Nicolas, Haleigh, Blaze or Sharon can come through to see Karen between now and the time she leaves for the ceremony.>>

<< inside the office, Karen sets at her desk, Delilah sits nearby with Morgan and Ava sitting on the opposite side of the desk.>>

Where did you find this picture? who drew this?

<< Karen asked coldly as she examined it with concern.>>

the mayor's office

<< Morgan sat in a chair facing her mother's desk. it was obvious Morgan had only just calmed down from being nearly ran over by a car. the green tea soothed her but a mother could always tell.>>

...well, I guess it began when i almost got ran over by a car 10 minutes ago.

<< she watched as her mother and delilah both exclaimed .>>

no..its okay. I'm fine...now at least. I just cant believe how CARELESS i was.

it was that picture that you saw us looking at in the cafe. i've been...captivated by it ever since Blaze pulled it up on the internet this morning.

but its more than that, its last night. mom, some freaky shit has been happening...and i gotta tell you, its more than a little unsettling. I saw my..."father" just like you warned me...and when i tried to destroy the apparition, my spell had NO EFFECT! Ava can't sense this fog...so it must NOT be natural.

I hate this whole scenario.

<< she rubs her temples>>

its making me worry about things that I normally would not. it's making me CONCERNED.

Like...what about TONIGHT? what about the people here who DON'T have powers? what if the fog comes in tonight?

the mayor's office

By the goddess! Morgan!

<< Karen said as she hurried from around her desk to her daughter's side, kneeling down next to her.>>

are you SURE you aren't hurt? do you need me to heal you?

Morgan: I'm fine mother, really. I just didnt want to upset you..like THIS.

Karen: Morgan, honey...with everything that's happened, your father, and now this fog and these strange occurences, OF COURSE i'd be upset.

<< exhaling as she lowered her voice>>

I know some people question my...parenting skills when they see you. But they don't know you like i do, like your sister and your friends Ava, Delilah and Nicolas. Right now, I don't care about any "appearence" i just want to make sure you're allright.

<< Morgan expressed her growing sense of loss and exasperation over the recent events...and Karen held her daughter's hand.>>

I know...I'm there too....I met with Alison yesterday, i had intended to ask her to do the benediction for the ceremony, but the conversation went awry very quickly.

There's no turning back from the ceremony now, but I was talking with Delilah and we are going to cut it short. We want everyone off the street before midnight. Mike is coordinating with police and the weather service to make sure that we have up to the minute updates on the weather if there's a fog coming...Sharon will have the light house on full activity as well for the ships at sea tonight.

<< she looks at Ava and Morgan.>>

So no stunts tonight you two. Just make your appearences and then get inside. If we move quickly and carefullly...maybe we can avoid what we fear most.

the day moves on

at the mayor's office

<< Karen talks with Morgan, Ava and Delilah as she reveals that the ceremonies would be cut short and that the town's key facilities were being put on alert for the evening. Karen was taking steps, and doing what she could. She also leveled with her daughter about the weirdness that was going on as of late.>>

leaving the gothic church

<< Nicolas and Haleigh left the grounds of the large gothic church. It had been a surprisingly non violent confrontation between Alison and Nicolas and they gained more insight into what was plaguing them in the town, it was some sort of curse. It connected to the information that Haleigh found on the Elizabeth Dane, it explained the fog, it explained the apparitions of Alycia and Robert. >>

<< There was hope, that Alison MIGHT be of assistance to them later tonight if they needed it, and with her telling Nicolas that he would be needed somewhere he didnt immediately suspect later tonight...he knew that things would probably be going from bad to worse.>>

<< they drove along the winding roads, heading back down into town, with only Alison's words echoing in their heads. they'd do what they did best, talk between themselves and try to plan for "what was next". with the ceremony coming in a few hours, there wasnt much time. Alison told Nicolas that he wasnt supposed to be at the Town Square tonight, so where else could be be? somewhere that would have just as much coverage. There was a local bar that alot of people would be gathering at to watch on the big flat screen. it would keep them at a decently central location between the downtown area, the roads and the weather service center.>>

meanwhile

<< Blaze, who had endured a rough evening, decided to use this time to take a nap. she felt safe enough in Morgan's mansion and with her sisterly bond, Morgan would sense any danger. She wanted to be at her most alert for this evening and so, she slept in the large, quiet , seemingly safe mansion. Little did she know that things would be anything but quiet and calm for her in a mere few hours.>>

at the lighthouse

<< After spending the morning with her son Kyle, including breakfast some shopping and some talk about the night before, Kyle was ready to go HOME. he wanted to be among his own things and in a comfortable, familiar place. So, after bringing him home and spending more time with him there, the time had come for Sharon to go to the lighthouse and prep for the evening. The babysitter came and Sharon made sure that her cell, the station's phone number as well as the numbers to Mike and Nicolas were on hand for the sitter.>>

<< She gave instructions for Kyle not to leave the area of the house and to not go off the back deck. no where near the beach unsupervised.>>

<< after kissing Kyle goodbye, Sharon leaves, driving along the winding roads in her jeep, the wind blowing through her hair. she looked refreshed, but no less worried in her mind and heart.>>

time passes as Morning gives way to afternoon and afternoon gives way to late afternoon

<< the lives of those involved in this unusual circumstance were bound together by tragedy, a tragedy spurned by secrets and a curse, the resolution wouldnt come for them until tonight and no one could be sure just how it would go or who ELSE would be taken by this ghostly fog.>>

"She's fine, Karen. Don't worry."

:: Ava reassured Karen that Morgan was fine. The fall was completely out of character for the blonde so it was obvious that she was extremely distracted. Morgan showed Karen the picture which unsettled the mayor. She ordered Ava and Morgan to take it easy at tonight's festivities...Ava didn't object. In fact, for the first time in a long time, she awsn't even in the mood to party. But they she had to go. They ALL had to go. ::

"Believe me, I don't intend to stay long."

:: Looking over to Karen, Ava's expression was serious. ::

"How do we stop this thing? We can't avoid it forever....whatever is happening, it's happening for a reason. [pointing to the picture] That picture prooves it."

Delilah: Well, i suppose we could all put on our costumes and rush out into the fog like the Super Friends or something...

<< Karen looked at Delilah sternly for a moment. The young woman's flippant humour was at times annoying, at other times refreshing.>>

Cute, Delilah. Real cute. I'm the mayor of this town, not Samantha Stevens from Bewitched. ;)

I've got to make sure that the the townspeople are safe first and foremost, and that is why the festivities have been cut down to a speech and the unveiling of the statue. I want everyone off the street and indoors by midnight.

as for what we can do...to stop it? i wish i had an answer, but maybe among us, those with powers we can come up with an idea...hopefully before its too late.

Delilah: the representative from Vivians is coming with our dresses, Karen...the next 30 minutes.

Karen: Fine.

<< she nods.>>

Girls, you take care and I'll see you later tonight. after the ceremony, head over to Morgan's. Mike, Delilah and I will join you soon after. Make sure you keep Blaze close at hand too, you know how she has a tendency to want to play "Nancy Drew".

<< Karen stands up to hug Morgan, before the two young women leave.>>

<< Karen looks at Delilah, smirking a bit >>

Really, Delilah... "Dress up in costumes?" who do you think we are? the Avengers?

<< the two women chuckle as they prepare to meet the representative from Vivians.>>

The Mayor's Office

Delilah gave Morgan a warm hug goodbye, with assurances that she would see her and Ava at the house later.

Karen Victoria said:
Really, Delilah... "Dress up in costumes?" Who do you think we are? The Avengers?

Delilah tapped her lips with her index finger while giving Karen a mock thoughtful look.

"The Avengers...hmmm...nope, doesn't ring a bell...must be before my time..."

She gave Karen a playful nudge as she followed her back into the office proper, closing the door behind her. She sat down in a chair near Karen's desk, unbuttoning her suit jacket and crossing her legs at the knee.

"Do you think the townspeople will think it odd that the ceremony is so short? I know it's a...secondary...concern, but I'd hate for your approval rating to suffer for protecting your own citizens."

Delilah couldn't help but think about the details - after all, that's what Karen paid her to do. In truth she didn't think being inside would make one bit of difference when whatever was coming came. And she personally would rather be out confronting it than cowering beneath her bed. But Karen was the Mayor, and that meant what she said goes.

Haleigh stayed quiet and let Nicolas do the talking.... she was more of a listener anyways. Alison told them about the journal... though she warned that it would not change the course of events later that night.

"Sometimes.... just understanding WHY is enough to keep you ALIVE. That may be all we're SUPPOSED to do."

She was especially referring to herself... rationally, she couldn't help but weigh the necessity of her own involvement. What had she gotten into here in Thunder Bay? The town was practically founded on murder and now it was looking certain that every here was going to pay the price. the apparition last night had SAID she 'wasn't supposed to be here'..... the option of cutting her losses and getting out was considered... but she wondered if running from this would do her any good. She'd run clear across the country and yet.... here she was, faced yet again with the root of her problems.

She decided to stand her ground... she felt a connection with Nicolas... and he may have been right... Thunder Bay, despite its eerie haunting... was home to many with special gifts... and it could be as good a place as any for Haleigh to blend in and settle down. They got back in the truck and headed back to town.... Haleigh mulled over everything that she'd heard.

"Tonight they're going to unwittingly celebrate murder, Nicolas. If there was ever a time for revenge.... tonight's the night."
