<< Away from the mainstream time, away from all that is considered "reality", there is a realm of infinite possibilities. all times, all places are possible. only seperated by the thinest of veils in this mysterious multi-verse.>>

<< We often wonder what we could be like in another time and place. How much better or worse would it be? IF we could see pieces of ourselves as we are in those images of us in "what might have been", but while some of us , like Alison Marble, can see that every day....others of us would not be ready for what the future or any infinite future possibilities may hold.>>

<< Follow me, as I direct your attention elsewhere...and so we watch.>>

through the mists of time, the sprawling infinite expnase of space...

<< a massive, sprawling garden oasis, zoom down within the garden....and there are the sounds of the running streams, the wind through the ancient , strong trees, insects chirping and playing their own melody into the night....and near the massive stone Citadle that is the h ome of this garden's mistress...an elemental weather goddess named ORORO, there is a large bonfire, that glows and burns, the column of flame flows DIRECTLY UPWARD with sparkling embers of mystic energy flowing around it and a soft chime that filles the air.>>

<< Ororo herself sets on a stone while several children sit around the fire with her. one of of those children is a young girl, as tall as the boys in her midst and of mixed race heritage. her icy violet eyes and her beautifull thick hair with its blonde tint are the immediate identifiers that this is Victoria King

<< the children enjoy themselves, laughing, playing with one another. some gently interact with the little dark fearies that flit about, dancing round the fire. Victoria holds an animal in her lap [ blink and zoom in], a siamese with an exquisite, diamond collar around its neck... an older TINKERBELL.>>

<< Ororo herself entertains the children with visions of mystic dreams and symbols that play out in the pillar fire. She is these children's caretaker now. raising them all in the way of serenity and magick safely hidden in this secret garden.>>

<< but on this night of nights, the children are feeling restless. their minds and imaginations hunger for something more.>>

Nice intro post! It really set the scene here.
Limbo's garden

:: Ororo enjoys seeing the smiles and wide eyes of the children as they sit together around the column of fire. Though each of them have come to her by the most tragic of circumstances, they have all found comfort, security and hope within her garden. she teaches them in their gifts, both mystical and mutant and endeavors to make sure none of them forgets who they are and where they came from. These children are as precious as any rare creation in her garden and perhaps the most special among them is Victoria King, the orphaned child of legendary demon sorceress Spellbinder and powerfull young mutant Rampage. Victoria will one day rule Limbo just as her mother did and has already forged a close bond with her "Auntie Roro"::

:: but now it grows late and it is time for them all to go to bed. and so Ororo slowly signals for them to quiet down.::

Ororo: It is bedtime, children. gather your things and prepare to go inside the citadle. tomrrow will be another day for lessons, exploration and fun.

:: the children, like any other long before them, signal their protest, which Ororo quickly hushes.::

Victoria King: Auntie 'Roro? please tell us a story...tonight is a special night after all...it's the anniversary of the INFERNO! When mommy burned New York City!!!

:: the children, who were all a little more afraid of Victoria than each other, looked at the child who seemed to be HAPPY to revel in such a horrifying event. it had become the stuff of urban legends...like CARRIE, Freddy Krueger or Michael Meyers.::

:: Ororo looked at the child with disapproval and Victoria lowered her head, taking the silent rebuke. But after after a few moments, Ororo decided that perhaps this was an opportunity to teach them a lilfe lesson in a creative way. Though it was dark...they were safe in this garden. Ororo was it's creator and was aware of every living thing therein. She was "2nd in command" of Limbo in general. These children all possessed wonderous abilities themselves, some mutant, some magickal. Though time was not as constricting here as it was on mortal earth, Ororo kept them on a consistent schedule, but tonight of allnights...which it truly WAS the anniversary of when Spellbinder unleashed the Inferno upon the city of New York, Ororo felt that it would be OKAY to indulge them in this as long as they LEARNED.::

Ororo: Do not celebrate things which you do not understand, child. Those who do not understand and respect the past...are DOOMED to relive it in their own way.

:: pausing.::

Very well. I shall tell you a story. Listen..and listen well.

along for the ride

so many wonderous things. so many sights, sounds and smells. how the little flaming orbs do flow and the little fearies do dance. I wonder if the little fearies are as tasty as they look?

Tinkerbell lays in little miss Victoria's lap. the mysterious and seemingly long lived enchanted familiar that was once Spellbinder's beloved pet and familiar and who had also forged a sort of bond with Victoria's father, Rampage. Tinkerbell had come to limbo with the orphaned child and remained with her, now bonding with her. The sleek siamese looked upon the mystic flame, its flickering orbs and the flitting dark fearies with consistent curiosity. her beautifull blue eyes now showed narrowed slits for their pupils. her tail moved ever so slightly as the wind shifted a bit and she craned her neck, taking in the scent of the garden's air.

lots of things here for me to eat, places to explore...but maybe later. here with Victoria and the bright lady [Ororo] is where i'd rather be.

Still i wonder..where my first mommy is...and the "big one" are.

the siamese nestles into Victoria's lap as the young girl remarks on the anniversary of the INFERNO.

fires and screams. demons and rage...scarey!!!! 1rst mommy was very scarey then!!!

As Victoria pets Tink, the siamese purrs with content and slowly closes her eyes a bit. Ororo will tell a story and soon, Tink will get some treats! :D

the story begins

:: Ororo gestures around the rising upward column of mystic fire, shushing the children as they giggle with excitment over what story Ororo will tell them. the winds whistle hauntingly in the trees above and around the children...and soon, the sound of a massive, grandfather clock can be heard ticking. in the column of fire, the image of HARBINGER'S ancient time piece, the massive, gothic grandfather clock that once sat in her luxury apartment of Illustra, appears.::

:: on the large face of the clock, are symbols, rather than tradition roman numerals or regular numbers. they deonte passage of time as well as points in ones life from birth until...DEATH. by our standards the clock reads...::

Ororo: 11:55 by earth standards. Almost midnight

:: the sound of the massive clock's ticking is as forboding as a beating heart in pitch blackness.::

Time for one last story...before the anniversary of the Inferno Event.

:: swirling smoke flows around the fire as images that correspond to her words flicker and form, passing before the children::

Ororo: Just to keep us warm.

On earth, where you all come from, there lays a little town called Thunder Bay...its origins are enshrouded in SECRETS. Secrets which have been kept and soon forgotten with the passing generations.

::she spoke with a haunting narrative voice::

Many moons ago, Out in the waters around Arklay pointe which lead out into the oceans. A small clipper ship drew toward land. Suddenly out of the night, the fog rolled in. So thick was this fog they could not see a foot ahead of them. and then they saw a light!

By the goddess, it was a fire burning on the shore! strong enough to penetrate the swirling mists of the fog. And so they steered a course toward the light but it was merely a campfire like THIS one, which did not reveal the danger that lay ahead of seeming salvation.

The ship and its unsuspecting crew crashed against the rocks, the hull sheered in two mast snapped like a twig. The wreckage sank and all the men aboard were dragged to the bottom of the sea where they lay with their ship. with her crew, their lungs filled with salt water there eyes open and staring into the darkness and their faces forever contorted in fear and betrayal! and above, as suddenly as it came, the fog lifted... receeded back into the ocean and it never came again.

Those who know the TRUTH hid the guilt in their hearts...the secrets became a code of silence...but as time passed, truth was leaked out as whispered rumours, stories ...the stuff of legends and stories like THIS. or so it SEEMS.

it is told by the fisherman , fathers and grandfathers before them that when this fog returns to Thunder bay that the men at the bottom of the sea out at the waters by Arklay point will rise up out of the waters and search for the campfire that lead them to their deep, dark , icy grave. They will search for truth and JUSTICE from those who know it and keep it.

12:00....

:: thunder crashes as the massive gothic grandfather clock chimes mounfully. the children are suitably startled as the images of the spirits of the men can be seen. Ororo speaks as the clock continues to toll.::

Secrets...no matter how deeply buried will ALWAYS come back, demanding resolution. What is done in the darkness...even with a cloak of fog, will come to the LIGHT and the consequences of keeping secrets...can be as deadly as any INFERNO that you may dare to imagine.

Nice setup. It feels like an authentic ghost story that you would have lifted from elsewhere...
Thunder Bay

<< and as Ororo gathers her children together, along with Tinkerbell ;) and leads them inside the safety of the stone Citadle, we pull away from the dark secret garden...and flow across time and space to EARTH. But NOT the earth we normally watch. >>

<< this is a different time and place. the west coast of the united states, specifically California. A small, exclusive northern town called Thunder Bay that has enjoyed wealth and bounty as a fishing/port town. Its humble beginnings as a charter have been the story of many legends. its rustic, serene splendor is a draw for people looking to get away and "hide in plain sight". >>

<< it is a small town with a mysterious history and many of its inhabitants are hardly "normal". many of its key players are metahumans, mutants or witches who parents or grandparents came here for sanctuary from less welcoming big cities around the united states. these special individuals lead lilves as normal as anyone could hope, using their abilities to enhance their chosen career paths and to make this town as strong and secure as it is....but no mutant power can take away a person or a town's past. the TRUE origins of it.>>

<< the ocean is all one can see to the east of the town...providing a breath taking horizon in the morning and at night. It is night time...the day before the anniversary of Thunder Bay's original charter!>>

<< across the night sea...a fog rolls in...a mysterious , swirling mist that seems to defy even the wind itself!>>

<< as it rolls into the quiet, sleeping town, moving far further inland than any normal fog should...strange phenomena began to occurr. >>

<< across the town at various points, near various homes of some of the key players in this story....eerie things began to occurr.>>

<< it began with animals...who barked, hissed and showed signs of agitation, all of them facing toward the sea. among them, TINKERBELL, the sleek siamese that belongs to socialite Morgan Victoria, along with Ava Cassadine's slightly BIGGER "cat", Onyx.>>

<< lights around the city flickered, flashed on and off...objects that were powered down, powered ON, in stores, gas stations and other places. >>

<< near the home of the mayor, Karen Victoria, car horns and car alarms began to BLAIR all at once! one of those cars belongs to Delilah Trelevan who lives not too far from Mayor Victoria. >>

<< and north through the town at the gothic church that sat atop one of the many hills, a sulking Alison Marble sat in her chair, looking out of the window, watching the fog with her cobalt blue eyes. She doesnt move, she doesnt speak, nor does she make an effort to close her window lest the fog come inside. she holds a goblet of hemlock in her hand.>>

<< She may be one of the FEW residents of this town that is awake when the fog and the mysterious events come about, but she wont be for long. Across the town, residents begin to register the strange goings on. and one man, Nicolas King is out on the road, getting a first hand account of things as he finds driving becoming increasingly difficult thanks to malfunctioning traffic lights and a fog. His misfortune is another stranger's luck....as Haleigh Davidoff, a hitchhiker flags him down...hoping to catch a ride and place to stay out of this fog at least for the night or so she thinks. >>

<< the even of the 100th birthday of Thunder Bay is a HARBINGER of things to come...unpleasant things. Here we are, and so we watch.

north - gothic church

:: sitting at the the window, looking out from the gothic church over a large area of town, the fog rolls in, it is not so thick, and low to the ground.::

a prelude...

:: she says softly as she raises a goblet of HEMLOCK to her lush lips and gulps down more of the elixir.::

:: Alison Marble is the town's historian. A precog who can see the past, present and future with perfect clarity. Her family is among the founding families of this town. Her great grandfather one of the original founders and the presiding bishop of th is church. now this place is a strong, silent relic of the past. Some come here for comfort in their spiritual path, others come to confess their sins in the dark, secret confession booths. Alison herself is not a woman of the cloth. She hired someone to tend to those "mundane matters", but she lives on the estate of the church, as have several generations of her family before her.::

:: ever since her brother, Cameron King disappeared, she'd taken to drinking more heavily. No one believe her when she warned them of a fog out to see when one of Nicolas King's ships, a yacht set seal for a moonlight cruise. Cameron King, Alycia Barnett, Christopher Victory and Robert Kelly were among those lost...their bodies found days later after the fog swept through but the mysterious circumstances of their death made it much worst. the rift between Alison and Karen had grown since then. She felt that Karen and Mike had not done enough to solve the mystery. it WAS MORE than an accident.::

...more than an accident...this fog...is not natural.

:: she says in low, bitter tone.::

:: she hears the distant sounds of bells, car alarms and other sounds of unnatural distress about the small, exclusive town. buy she can hardly care.::

Stupid...all of them. They sleep on the eve of what could be their final "anniversary"...

:: as she hears the sounds of animals whining or crying out toward the fog, she turns her back, waving her h and as a rushing, chiming sound heralds the slamming shut of the window. Alison is not just a precog, she's also a telekinetic witch.::

:: But as she does that...another area of the room she's in ripples and vibrates before a large wooden cross flies off the wall and slams into another wall across the room, taking several pieces of brick with it. Alison is mildly startled as she looks at the wall, and sees there's some kind of "secret compartment" hidden within...and so she moves closer to investigate.::

further back in town, an exclusive neighborhood

<< in a large, sprawling mansion, the jet setting Morgan Victoria slumbers, nude. Satin sheets twisted around her model form as she lays in her larger than king sized bed without a care in the world.>>

<< she shares her regal home with her half sister, Blaze Fielding. Blaze became a "permanent" fixture after the death of Christopher many years ago. Karen legally adopted Blaze in order to further hide the fact of Christopher's affair with a woman that Karen had driven out of town. >>

<< Daughter of the mayor, Karen Victoria, Morgan is a rich bitch who has no problem flaunting her beauty and her wealth. She is often joined in her antics by Ava Cassadine, another descendant of of one of the founding families of this town, daughter of a member of the current city's council. >>

<< as the statuesque blonde lays....she begins to stir as faint trials of mist seep over the ledge of an open window into her large bedroom. the fog. Tinkerbell, her sleek, spoiled siamese awakens out of her sleep with an inquizitive mew...her eyes blink a few times before she turns, ears perked ...looking to the east and seeing the fog. she begins to growl...>>

<< Morgan herself stirs a bit more, hearing Tinker growling.>>

hmmm??

<< she feels a breeze...and then as car alarms go off and car horns blow...Tinkerbell HISSES and Morgan opens her icy violet eyes.>>

What the HELL!?

<< thinking that it might be some of the men that she and Ava had teased and left hanging at a bar in town earlier that evening come to pay her back by disturbing her sleep...she stands up...and stumbles toward the large window...>>

SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

<< still suffering from the effects of a night of DRINKING, the young woman is not exactly gracious with her rebuke but as she stands at the window, still nude, she sees NOTHING...NO ONE. just the trees outside of her window, the street below, the cars, other homes and....>>

a fog??

<< and the car horns blow on. she suddenly feels a CHILL down her back...like she's being EYED by someone VENGEFULL. it causes her to wake up a bit more coherent.>>

<< Morgan is a witch too, a sorceress who teleports through time and space and fires destructive bolts of mystic force. she senses the presence of mystical/otherworldly beings....but this is different. its not mystic in nature...>>

<< she pulls back from the window. alone in her dark room with only the haunting moonlight shining through, she suddenly feels CONCERNED as she covers herself with her silk mini robe...and notices tinker looking VERY agitated.>>

Tinker....

<< she says in a soft tone...as she crawls back into the bed. her thoughts drift to Blaze, who is down the hall in another large room. and soon, she finds herself slipping back out of the bed, and out of her room slowly into the hall. she checks on Blaze, slowly opening her sister's door to make sure she's okay. she sees faint traces of the fog in her room as well and so she comes in, walking over to the windows and closing them.>>

<< after looking at her sister for a moment, Morgan leaves the room...but decides that she can't quite sleep...and so, walking down to the spiral stair case, she descends to the main floor of the mansion, through several rooms toward the kitchen, where she begins to brew some tea and decides to call Ava on her cell phone. She knows the woman is awake...probably in bed with one of the men whom she PRETENDED to blow off at the bar but just didnt want MORGAN to know she was interested in him  :D>>

<< she wonders if Ava sees the fog and hears all the weirdness outside.>>

Persephone
Persephone
LMAO @ the Ava comment!
not too far away

<< in another luxurious mansion, several blocks away, Mayor Karen Victoria slumbers, in her elegant room, a large bad canopy bed with silk sheers that drape it and flow ever so slightly in the wind. the mayor herself wears a sleeping mask as the moonlight gently kisses her feminine form. sometimes she shares her bed with her secret paramour, Mike, a member of the town's small but dedicated police force.>>

<< the mayor herself is known for her dedication to social and civic activities. some suspect that she's thrown herself deeply into her work to help distract from her recent status as a widow, her husband, Christopher Victory died in a mysterious boat accident in the waters of Arklay Pointe. The accident that claimed the lives of Alison Marble's brother and Nicolas King's wife as well. Their deaths were more mysterious than just obvious drowning victims and Alison's shocking claims that something super natural could have been involved drew alarm from the town which Karen had to quash. This "political move" caused a rift between Alison and Karen that has not remotely healed in the passing years. >>

<< Karen SHOULD know better, after all, her own family line is that of witches, including her grandmother, herself and now her daughter. Her grandmother moved here decades ago...but her ultimate family line traces back to SALEM, Mass. still, despite her own super natural background, Karen has always erred on the side of "keeping up appearences". Something that Morgan , her daughter, has not always adhered to and Alison CERTAINLY could care less.>>

<< tonight though, was SUPPOSD to be one of those rare nights where she could sleep soundly but at midnight...as the town seemed to fall under some bizarre spell or something worse as a low hanging fog rolled along, Karen would soon find herself startled out of her sleep by car horns and alarms as well as flashing lights.>>

<< Mike happened to be here with her this evening as well and would witness the events as well.>>

Hitchhiking was dangerous for a woman.... but Haleigh herself was dangerous... more often than not, the person she was getting into the car or truck with was the one who should be worrying. Most of the people who stopped for hitchers these days were nice people..... naive, but nice. Haleigh Davidoff followed the trail through the forrest, a short cut from the main highway a few miles away to the town of Thunder Bay. She was hoping to find a decent meal before getting another ride headed South. Traveling down towards the valley, she noticed a fog rolling in.... it struck her as strange... the fog rolled towards her, but the wind was at her back. In the distance there were horns honking, but the sounds NEARBY were more alarming. The forrest animals were getting stir crazy. Several deer were bounding away from the fog, small critters scampered through the underbrush. Wolves howled, barked and growled.... and they were close enough for Haleigh to pause and check around her to make sure she wouldn't have to fend any of them off.

There was a glow ahead.... a line of a couple of flashing lightposts. She must be close to the outskirts of town now. She emerged from forrest, her boots hitting solid pavement. There was a vehicle ahead.... the highbeams trying to cut the fog, but it was still traveling slowly just in case.... it must have just had to deal with the panicked dear. Haleigh made sure the revolver tucked into the back of her jeans was concealed by the hem of her jacket before she flagged the driver down. She approached the passenger side as he slowed to a stop. He was a big guy, strong looking, too.... but he had soft eyes and a gentle smile.... and Haleigh was good at reading strangers. Even if he WAS trouble... it wasn't like she wouldn't be strong enough to fend ONE man off. She didn't NEED the pistol.... but it was helpful to carry it in the interest of hiding her gifts.... she didn't like to use them in front of witnessess unless there was no choice. She gave the driver a smile.

"Thanks for stopping. Do you mind giving me a ride into town? I'd rather not be caught out here, this fog's only getting thicker."

Nicolas was having a pretty good day until all of this. He'd closed a few more business deals and managed to further strengthen the fortunes of this shipping and fishing town. The passive nature of some of his gifts were quite helpful, and he managed to use them judiciously against his business rivals. His OTHER gifts...they stayed quite hidden, unless he HAD to use them.

Tonight was one of those nights as this infernal fog moved across the road, making headlights--even EYES---useless for a minute there. Luckily he had OTHER ways to see when eyes did not work.

He had hoped to make his way to Morgan's. A night of partying ALWAYS managed to loosen her up, and the drinks and her usual state of undress made his visits MUCH more fun. But now, he was navigating VERY slowly, avoiding a small HERD of deer(?). He shook his head as he pulled forward, barely entering the town's outskirts when he saw her. A hitchhiker, alone at night in all of THIS. And looking very GOOD. Her form filled her jeans nicely as he slowed, rolling down the window.

"Thanks for stopping. Do you mind giving me a ride into town? I'd rather not be caught out here, this fog's only getting thicker."

WELL. She was just as pretty coming as going, and she seemed pretty harmless overall, even with the gun tucked in her waist. For Nicolas, THAT would be no problem, even if SHE was. Since her thoughts also seemed above board, he was further reassured.

Sure, no problem. Hop in. Is there anywhere specific you're headed in town?

He opened the door and patted the seat, indicating for her to enter...

"a night of drinking ALWAYS managed to loosen Morgan up"? LOL! see, that's why she aint hardly giving him the time of day in this story! :p
Morgan's mansion

Unlike Morgan who seemed to be a light sleeper, Blaze could damn well sleep through a hurricane. Her svelte form was curled up on her king size sleigh bed. The gentle breeze of the night peacefully swayed the curtains as the eerie fog crept into her room. Morgan’s unlady like behavior hadn’t even disturbed Blaze. The young woman was more cautious about flashing her wealth. She spent most of her time at the light house that overlooked the ocean. More so an adventurous spirit, Blaze was content with books, traveling, or even listening to her favorite DJ on the local radio station.

A pair of small black Armani wire framed reading glasses adored her beautiful face. While a thick hardcover novel by Stephenie Meyer was sprawled out onto her black cami. The binding of the book clearly indicated the science fiction novel the ‘Host’. Blaze clearly had an actively vivid imagination when she wasn’t reading the latest pages of Vogue, Glam, or Vanity Fair. Her wavy chocolate locks had been pulled into a haphazard bun, a few strands cascaded along her jaw.

It was no secret to Blaze that Morgan spent a lot of her time gallivanting with Ava Cassadine. Blaze spent a few nights waiting up for her older half-sister, worried she would make it home in one piece after a decadent night of intoxication. The side of her slender leg poked outside from under her satin sheets. The door to her room would open slowly as Morgan checked on her younger sibling. Still oblivious that Morgan was even home, Blaze slumbered peacefully. Even when Morgan walked over to close the windows. The curtains along her sage-green walls had fallen back to their original destination.

Twisting onto her side, the side of the novel would fall to the polished hardwood flooring where the area rug was. The clunk of the heavy book fell on deaf ears as more of the covers clung to the black-lace boycut Victoria Secret shorts she wore. Wrapping her arms around the pillow case, having an adventure of her own while she slept.

off the waters of Arklay Pointe

[ Sharon had called it a night a little early. Her son, Kyle was not feeling well and she wanted to be home with him. Her sprawling home sat atop rocky mass and over looked the ocean itself. It was not terribly far from the Arklay lighthouse [one of the few well kept and fully functioning on the west coast] where she owned, operated and dj'ed the local radio station. She did administrative functions during the day and spun at night.]

[ Sharon was an older woman, a "cougar" by today's standards. hardly dated in her looks, her fashion or her savvy in pop culture and current events...the woman was once an entertainer, a singer and a model. Like others before her, who had their inspirations, Her idols and inspiration included Farrah Fawcett, Lynda Carter and of course Madonna, whom she had met and even peformed in the studio and on stage with.]

[ But Sharon's life changed abruptly, first with the loss of her husband and becoming a single mother, as well as her status of "metahuman" being outed, causing her to be black listed at a time when public acceptance was not quite as wide spread. For the safety of her son, she left the larger spotlight and moved from new york across the country to this town of Thunder Bay. A hidden gem in northern california. It was quaint and but not dated in the least. Strong in its finance and relevant due to its draw as a fishing/shipping city, it blended commerce with "small town" living with big city enhancements courtesy of the mayor's business and political savvy and contacts. Sharon was impressed and decided she would raise her son here. With her sizable savings and wise investments in times past...she had enough money to BUY the Arklay Lighthouse and the radio station, reinventing it as a "pulse of the people" and herself as station's owner/operator and signature DJ... giving Thunder Bay a voice that was both sultry and sexy but also well informed. She played a variety of music...but stayed away from anything too "edgy" like Hip Hop, Metal or raunchy. She also was the performer of choice for many of the town's social affairs. Her voice was a gift...one afforded her in part due to her status as a metahuman with sonic based abilities. she also had the power of flight and a telepathic rapport with all species of birds.]

[ With her radio dj persona- "The Silver Swan", Sharon was one of the town's biggest "personalities" and yet, she did not use her celebrity to draw unwanted attention from outside areas, large corporations etc, instead, she kept her money in Thunder Bay and thus, won the trust and loyalty of its people...even the older generations and CERTAINLY the younger men and women.]

[but ALL of that was secondary to her son, whom she loved very much and so tonight she stayed in with him in their sprawling home that overlooked the ocean waters of Arklay pointe.]

[ as the eerie fog bank moved across the ocean, Sharon was awakened by the nocturnal birds that were reacting to the fog. She looked out of her panoramic view window in her bedroom and saw the fog...noting from her meteorological device on her night stand that the fog was moving...]

against the wind??

[ if she were at the station in the lighthouse, she'd call the weather center , and risk dealing with the never ending flirtation of its cheif officer just to see if he was registering this law defying fog...]

[ as she stood up, wrapping her satin silver robe around herself, she saw the fog creeping up over the mountain and slinking across the ground. fogs were not uncommon for this area, but this one seemed ...sinister. she couldnt quite put her finger on it...but it almost seemed like she HEARD whispers...disjointed voices mumbling...talking over one another a the fog passed around her home. with her perfect hearing...was such a thing THAT farfetched??]

[ she moved from room to room of her house, checking on things and finally checking on Kyle, who slept soundly in his room clutching teddy bear. she looked upon him with her silver eyes...yet another unusual feature abouther that allowed her to stand out and succeed in her modeling career. smiling as she was sure he was fine...she moved away and down the hall...and a small flight of stairs. now in the main areas of the house, she decided to sit in the sunken in living room on her leather sectional and by candle light, she went over the program for tomorrow. the celebration of Thunder Bay's 100th birthday was coming and she'd have to do it big on the broadcast, which meant not being present for the live festivities.]

[ even as she attempted to focus on her program and such...the whispering she thought she heard played and replayed in her mind. one of the voices sounded like....like ROBERT KELLY!]

She could feel his eyes moving over her, likely wondering what a woman like her was doing out here in the middle of a night like this. The truth was.... she traveled this way out of choice, not necessity. She wanted to stay off the radar a while.

She slid into the passenger seat, sliding her leather backpack off her shoulder and putting it next to her as he offered to take her where she wanted to go.... She shook her head. Her voice was a low volume, she was soft-spoken, her movements fluid and graceful, slow and gentle. Her mannerisms hid her strength, the velvet glove to disguise an iron fist.

"No, not really.... just a hot meal and a good night's sleep [chuckling gently] Know anywhere like that?"

She asked, maintaining her smile, even as she looked around to see the lights flickering. She could feel telephone and power lines surging, mechanical objects malfunctioning.... it was making her a little uneasy, though she hid it well.

"No, not really.... just a hot meal and a good night's sleep [chuckling gently] Know anywhere like that?"

Nicolas chuckled back at the young lady. He knew it was likely that the town's hotels were booked or nearly so and besides, it couldn't hurt to have something pretty at the house to look at, even if for just a night. So he made an offer.

Well, it's a bit late for a restaurant and the hotels and inns stayed pretty full this time of year. If you want, I was going to whip up some New York strips anyway at the house, maybe a salad and veggies, you are certainly welcome to have some. Then you can crash in the guest room, I have plety of room and I promise, I don't bite...much.

Nicolas laughed a bit at his comment. He was truly trying to be helpful and friendly, but Morgan had already been jerking him around a bit lately and he was not above the lure of flirting with a pretty girl late at night in his own home...

So much for a night of debauchery followed by REST. Mike opened his eyes quickly, immediately alert as he heard the alarms and sirens. He rolled out of the bed, grabbing his pants and weapons quickly as he both finished dressing and walking to the fornt door to investigate. He motioned to Karen.

Stay alert. I will check things out. Probably just some kids' prank.

But he was VERY careful, his gut told him tht something else was up. With weapon drawn, he stepped outside...

Thunder Bay- the mayor's mansion

<< Karen sat up in her bed, immediately reaching for her silk pink robe as she lifted up her sleeping mask. Mike, ever the "hero", rushed out of the room and down the stairs, out onto the front porch.>>

Michael...dont you think...

<< it was too late. Karen slipped out of her canopy bed and moved over to the window to see the commotion for herself. no one in sight! just like what her daughter had seen, just a low hanging fog, rolling through the neighborhood with tributary trails flowing from it including one toward her home where mike stood.>>

yes, thats it...brandish a GUN at the fog.

<< she said sarcastically as she slipped into her "pussy cat" high heeled slides and moved gracefully down the stairs to the front door...when suddenly, a cold , unforgiving feeling swept over her that gave her pause.>>

....

<< the fog...something about it was not quite normal. >>

Mike, come back inside at once! There's nothing you can do here!

<< she said firmly as she motioned for him to move back inside.>>

<< she looked at her grandfather clock. it was now midnight...>>

100 years of calm...and tonight the town decides to come apart!

<< she half hoped this was a bad dream, a symptom of the anxiety she felt about the upcoming festivities for the 100th birthday of Thunder Bay.>>

<< once Mike was inside, she shut the door and locked it up tight.>>

Now, really Michael, just what did you think you would accomplish, rushing out there and waving your gun around like some over eager dirty harry?

Do you not realize that our...affair must be kept DISCREET AND PRIVATE??

<< using THAT to distract her from hre own misgivings about this fog as it drifted along.>>

It's a fog....like any other << almost sure she was lying to herself>>...now come. we'd best get some sleep...tomorrow...or TODAY is a big day ahead and we've no time for foolishness.

As MIke stepped outside, he got a bad feeling in his gut. That gut had served him in his military service as a Navy Seal, and afterwards a police chief here. He quickly glanced around and saw what he wished he hadn't: NOTHING. Suddenly, the sirens and horns began to abate, the silence outside becoming more deafening than the noise itself. It was at that moment that he heard Karen call for him.

He came back in quickly, closing the door behind him. As he walked over to Karen, she started in.

Now, really Michael, just what did you think you would accomplish, rushing out there and waving your gun around like some over eager dirty harry?

Do you not realize that our...affair must be kept DISCREET AND PRIVATE??

Mike smiled as she looked at him fiercely. It was that look that started him chasing her in the first place. He grabbed her in an embrace and spoke to her in a near whisper.

Well, Madame Mayor, if you are so worried about our affair getting out...maybe you shouldn't have been so loud EARLIER.

With that, Mike kissed Karen quickly and walked up the stairs, not looking back at what he knew would be a dissaproving look concerning his tone and forward nature. But he knew as much as she hated it...she LOVED it.

Haleigh's eye twitched involuntarily at his mention of 'New York'. 3000 miles and she still couldn't escape hearing the name. Still, she kept her poker face on. He was only talking about food. In addition, he offered her a place to stay. She gazed at him... she was familiar enough with men to know that he'd already fantasized about pulling the car over and having his way with her ;), yet, he didn't seem lecherous.... so the idea of staying in his guest room didn't sound like a bad idea. The man was easy on the eyes.... and in general he seemed to have a kind heart. That was what Haleigh enjoyed about small towns.... people still genuinely wanted to help. He assured her that he didn't bite.... and Haleigh smiled cautiously.

"I don't... even know your name. I'm Haleigh Davidoff... and I'd be really grateful for anything you can do, but I don't want to be a bother. Are you sure you don't mind, Mr....?"

She didn't bother lying about her name... there was no reason. Where she was coming from, They didn't use her name... she was just "Subj. #3, Black Widow Program". She figured if They were going to put out an APB... there'd already have been one, but she suspected that doing so would put THEM in an awkward position so likely They were keeping it quiet.

At any rate, she liked to be as honest and friendly as possible, until the situation called for a different tactic. This guy at least seemed to be decent.... so while she'd keep her guard up and the conversation light and impersonal, she allowed him a small measure of trust, based solely on intuition.

"Mother FUCKER!"

Delilah's eyes flew open. She had enough problems with restless nights, and now she was awakened by her CAR ALARM going off. She threw off the covers and stormed out of bed. She was sleeping in pajama bottoms and a cut off football jersey, so didn't bother to change before storming angrily downstairs and outside to the street.

"SOME people have to WORK for a living!"

She grumbled as she looked around for the perpetrators. Being the assistant to the Mayor was not all it was cracked up to be - though she dearly loved Karen it was long days and hard work. And she hated having her sleep interrupted.

Seeing no one around, she was about to shut off the alarm when she noticed two things: first, it wasn't just her car's alarm going off and second, a thick fog was swirling about the street. Due to her perfect eyesight she hadn't noticed how bad it was at first, but now she stopped in her tracks.

"What the...?"

She could hear car alarms going off all around the town. And besides that, something just wasn't right. She forgot about shutting off the alarm and went back inside, searching for her cell phone. Finally finding it on the floor by her bed, she quickly dialed the Mayor. Something was happening in Karen's town, and she needed to know about it.

LOL! I love, D! She rocks.
The mayor's mansion

<< Karen steadied herself after Mike's bold overture. pursing her lips a bit and narrowing her eyes with disapproval at the young man as he walked up the stairs, seemingly proud of himself.>>

one nose twitch....that'll teach him a lesson in humility

<< she thought as she prepared to make the floor at the top of the stairs disappear and have him "fall" before reappearing in the bed. just a little SCARE tactic. behind closed doors, Karen had a rather twisted sense of humour so it was not hard to see where her bratty, rich daughter got it from :D >>

<< but before she could play her own prank on Mike, her phone ring. it startled her a bit...but it seemed that the rucous outside was dying down now that it was a few minutes PAST the midnight dot. she continued to glare at Mike a bit, before softening her gaze and moving over to a phone nearby on a victorian wooden table. it was Delilah!>>

<< picking up.>>

Delilah? Are you allright?

<< concerned for her young and ever capable assistant, who lived not too far, but still lived alone.>>

Something...unusual happened this evening...perhaps the power company had a malfunction...

<< floundering for some type of logical explanation.>>

have there been any complaints registered with the police department? any accidents or injuries?

<< she would be relieved when Delilah reported that there had been no reports of accidents or injuries....but they BOTH would know something more was going on than a town wide "malfunction".>>
