All right, I KNOW that some articulate and violence-loving person on this board has seen and loved Boondock Saints. (I just got it on DVD after weeks of waiting (stupid Amazon))
In case you don't know, the Boondock Saints, written and directed by Troy Duffy, is the story of Irish brothers (Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery...mmmmm) living and working in South Boston, and their best friend Rocco who is a paperboy/runner for the Italian mob. When the Russian mafia starts taking over their neighborhood (they get really pissed when their watering hole has to shut down) they get in a fight with a few mafia hit men and...well, they kill them. They then start taking out all the baddies in Boston, Russian mob, as well as some Italian wiseguys (one of whom you may recognize as Ron Jeremy) After some very cool police work by one Paul Smecker (played by Willem Dafoe) he catches up with them and has a bit of a moral crisis: Should he help the vigilantes who are getting evil men off the streets or arrest them for murder?
Pulled from US theater release a week after the Columbine shooting, for violence, this movie never saw theaters in the US. It went straight-to-video in the US (I know what you're thinking, but really, don't judge a movie by it's method of release!!). Fans of Quentin Tarantino: See it. You will like it. Duffy admits that he loves Tarantino, and although this is in no way a direct copy of Tarantion, you can definitely see his influence (especially in the camera work).
Anyway, it's really good, a little flawed, (mainly in Smecker's story arc: he just seems to pull this desire to help the brothers out of thin air) the action sequences are top-notch, the humor is great and...well, it's got to be said, the brothers are hot like habeneros
.
So have you seen it? What did you think (most people either love it or think it's the stupidest thing they've ever seen)? If you haven't seen it, go rent it and then report back
