The Death of Malice

The Further

Cameron furrowed his brow as she explained why she was here. Despite how much his family often tugged at his heart strings, they had also been responsible for some of his deepest traumas. He was no fool and he held no illusions that he would ever have any kind of a relationship with Talisman, though it was curious that she would choose to make herself known now. He was not ignorant to the inner workings of Hellfire. While he largely left his fingerprints from The White Court, information was like a mini economy in Hellfire. The staff was practically salivating to sell information to the highest bidder, and Cameron was able to use his telepathy to discern who's intel was worth it. He had several informants on the Red and Black courts, and he knew that Diana was no fan of Kelly.

Talisman: "In my native timeline, I was hunted by Diana for daring to fall in love and have a family. I never lived there long enough to have you. Johnathon was my fiance. I was pregnant with Alison...she had John killed, and I went on the run...I lost Alison shortly after her birth, thanks to her. And she had me so warped that I actually returned to Hellfire afterwards, because I was afraid of her..."

Prophet rolled his eyes a bit. Everybody had a sob story when it came to Diana. And Cameron's was worst than most. Still, he had never defected. He had never mistaken her words and her machinations for intelligence, but he did understand the fear. Diana always found a way in, and while he had been able to resist, people like his sister, Erika, and even the woman he loved, Haleigh, had not been as strong. Diana had an orbit that was hard to deny.

"If you're hoping to stoke my sympathy, you're mistaken. I don't care WHY you went back to Diana. Doing so tells me just about all I need to know about you."

Talisman: "I escaped only by luck. During my own timeline's inferno. When Karen Victoria had been beaten so badly by Christopher that she lost her baby...your world's Morgan Victoria. The chaotic magicks she wielded destroyed my world, and I used whatever magick I had left to slip through the timestream and ended up here..."

That part he could understand. Morgan had tried to destroy the world because she hated him so much. For as much dramatic as people liked to think he was, the lengths that Morgan had gone because she didn't know how to properly deal with and express her emotions, despite having a therapist mother, was insane. It had always been insane, and Cameron had never truly believed himself at fault during all of that. He had apologized profusely to promote them moving forward as a family, but Cameron had never, nor would he ever, forgive Morgan for that. And their interaction just before the battle at Hellfire was proof enough that he was right.

"The Victoria woman are all egomaniacs. They want the world to burn at the smallest slight."

Talisman: "My alliance with Hellfire here was one of desperation. I had nothing. Nowhere to turn. And she didn't make it easy. I had to constantly prove my worth. Now, don't mistake me - I did a lot of objectively terrible things, none of which I'm prepared to apologize for. A lot of bad things that happened to you, and your family over the last few years? Chances are I had a heavy hand in them. It was the cost of being in Hellfire, and I willingly paid it."

That he could at least respect. Her reasoning was weak. There was always somewhere else to turn. There was always a choice. But there was a time in his life where he himself had pursued nomination to Hellfire, if only because he had decided he'd rather deal with the devil he knew. And Cameron had done a lot more morally ambiguous things in his life without the presence or allure of Hellfire around him. He was an orphan. He had been homeless. And he had done horrible things to survive that. He wouldn't blame anyone for the choices they had made to survive. Not even Kelly Shaw.

"Look, I'm sure you've done a lot of terrible shit. Good for you. But I don't need this, Kelly. I don't need all this buildup, I don't need all this exposition. Cut the shit and cut to the chase."

Talisman: "Diana's continued existence presents a problem for me. I simply wish to continue what it is I was put on this Earth to do - work. I may have been Black Queen but I am so much more - I am a scientist, a biologist, engineer. And my ambition is far greater than creating low level bio hazards to supply wayward terrorists with weapons. As long as she lives, she will impede my work. I didn't escape her in one timeline, to die by her hand in another. Our family has the gift of vision, and mine is to see all of the present. I know what she is planning. And for lack of a better word, it's fucking insane. Unfortunately for her, as you know, I am well versed in insanity, and I have something that can help."

God she was so different than the woman he knew as his mother, and part of him felt...perversely....proud of her. It was like this version of his mother was more in line of who he wished his mother had been, rather than who she was. His real mother was a tragic ghost. A joke. This woman was smart. She was strong, and she was so restrained. He found himself willing to listen. More so than he wanted to admit.

"And that is?"

Talisman: "The Athame of Isis. I've unearthed it just recently, but it has the power to eliminate Set forever. Should you fail to kill her, should Set accept her deal, you drive this into the heart of Set, and end her madness."

She pulled the athame from within her jacket as Cameron could instantly feel it's power. This weapon was proof to Cameron that Talisman did in fact want Diana dead and was willing to go to great lengths in order to make that happen. She didn't seem to have any other agenda than to be left alone. Her work, however, gave him pause. She could have faded into obscurity and found a cure for cancer. But showing up in front of him like this, and hearing her words, it was clear to him that her "work" might put them at odds in the future. Still, Prophet was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Talisman: "All I ask in return, is that you leave me alone to do my work. I have no vendetta against The Six or their allies. As long as they keep themselves out of my business, I will not lay a hand on them. I came here for a second chance, to be the woman I was never allowed to be in my timeline. You don't threaten that? I won't threaten you."

It was a lot to take in. And most of it felt like a lie. But Cameron didn't know the world he would be returning to. And his mind went to Haleigh. Would they take her back? And what about Ava? She had been as close to him as a sister before all of all of this. And despite how angry he had been over everything, after all was said and done, he would not turn his back on them. It made sense to keep connections open. And if he got back to Earth and Haleigh told him that Kelly needed to die, he would kill her himself. But if she could be someone that offered her protection, he would do it. Because the next time Haleigh decided she would defect, he knew he would go with her.

"The last thing on my mind right now is whatever it is you are planning on doing."

"Delilah. Haleigh. Ava. Alison. You stay away from them? You don't fuck with them? You got yourself a deal."

Talisman: "I saw your conversation with Rae Reynolds, Cameron. And I see no flaw in your logic. For as cliche as it is, I am very much a fan of Darwin. Survival of the Fittest. I may not have much to offer in the way of maternal guidance, but I can offer data. I can offer information. Wherever this new path takes you, I can be much more of an asset than an enemy."

"And I can be MUCH more of a problem than most realize I am. So I turn your words back to you. You seem like a smart woman, but this is my timeline. My world. Your words don't carry the same weight as they did when you were Black Queen. Because I no longer have any qualms about destroying any one of you. YOU are not an enemy I need to worry about, but I am for you. Take that as you will."

And he meant it. Cameron had the power to bend entire armies to his will, and the only reason he hadn't yet was because he had decided not to. That Cameron would not so easily exist in the days to come. His patience was thin, and his drive was at an all time high.

"Diana!"

He felt her pierce the veil, and he no longer had time for Talisman.

Talisman: "The choice is yours."

"Remember those words. See you later, Mom."

With a flex of his power, he cast her OUT of The Further, as his body became encased in his red energy signature. And he did so with ease, despite her magick. In an instant he was tracking Diana's scent, his body falling deeper and deeper into The Further. This was it. He was so close. Diana was about to day. It was a wonderful day.

Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

Isis:
"Forgive me for eavesdropping, but it will be a cold day in HELL before you think you can "handle" anything regarding Nicolas or Set without ME."

<< Morgan's hair rose on the back of her neck as Dominique Devereaux made her debut in the sitting room. Isis had always been a bit of a thorn in her side when it came to her relationship with Nicolas. No matter how far they had come, Isis never wasted an opportunity to overextend her value to them. She was the Queen of Limbo and he was a demigod. They didn't need her help. And Morgan was out of patience. >>

"Oh lucky for you I j ust got the forecast or HELL! This just in...it's fucking CHILLY. Fuck off, Dominique."

<< She peered at the woman, her icy violet eyes nar

Isis: "Especially not when one of you has been acting like a petulant, SPOILED little brat in desparate need of a SPANKING."

<< Morgan laughed audibly. >>

"And who's gonna discipline me, Isis? YOU?"

[leaning in]

"Any day you feel fucking froggy, BITCH?!"

<< She was regretting coming here. She was still too angry. But this was reality and it was hitting Morgan at a mile a minute. Isis wasted no time in continuing to dress her down. >>

Isis: "I AM curious however, to know just exactly how you would "plan" to handle this in house considering you're nothing more than a glorified transit system these days, Morgan. Go ahead.....ENLIGHTEN me."

Haleigh: "Hey FUCK YOU LADY. She's been through a lot of SHIT lately, and she doesn't need any more from YOU."

<< Morgan laughed at the surreal nature of this and took another long sip of her wine, grabbing another wait staff by the collar as he begrudginly filled her glass again. If she had to be here in Aerie, with Alison and Isis, and Nicolas and Blaze and Karen, she was actually glad to have Haleigh by her side, which is NOT something she ever thought she'd EVER feel. >>

Harbinger: "We do not have time for this bickering."

Delilah: "Oh, let's make time."

[to Delilah]

"Oh NOW she has an opinion. WELCOME to the party, Delilah!"

<< She continued to nurse her wine, since she could no longer enjoy hemlock, considering what had just happened to her. >>

Haleigh: “Our PLAN?? Is to do whatever we HAVE to in order to survive when YOU miserably fail at your ONE JOB. We care about Nic as much as you do, but we all know that if Malice succeeds in possessing him, we’re all damn well fucked. When it comes to that? We’ll have no choice but to defend ourselves.”

"And we WILL defend ourselves."

<< Haleigh was the only one making sense right now. >>

Haleigh: “I know you know what I’m talking about. Don’t play with us, don’t try that cryptic ‘death glow on everybody’ BULLSHIT you fed me right before I gave myself over to Hellfire. You said exactly what you needed to convince me to go. I did a lot of shit I’m not proud of because I BELIEVED it would keep them from dying, and it turns out I just borrowed time for them, time enough to TRAUMATIZE them all.”

Delilah: "Well maybe you should have listened when the rest of us told you what a shitting turd of an idea it was!"

<< Morgan huffed. >>

"Well, we all can't just be the bright shining compass of morality ALL the time, Delilah, now can we? That's YOUR job. How's it going by the way? Feel good? Feel BETTER than everyone else?"

Haleigh: “So speak plainly now, Alison. Is my mother going to succeed in making a deal with Set? If there’s some ideal way to handle this, NOW is the time to share what you’ve seen.”

<< She rolled her eyes, preparing for the ominous. >>

Harbinger:
"You never change, Black Widow. And that will always be your downfall. You knew going in to this that your actions would only buy the others time, time to ready themselves. But it will not be enough to save everyone you care about. Set WILL be released. We are past the point where this can be avoided. Now...are you absolutely determined to go through with this plan of yours?"

<< She raised a finger in the air, halting Harbinger's words. >>

"Oh fuck off Alison. She did what she thought was best. Like WE did. You can't crucify HER without looking at yourself. A hard decision had to be made and she MADE it.."

Morningstar: "The plan - is to prevent Set from controlling Nicolas and coming back into this world. Are you certain we can't stop this? Isis helped us before. We couldn't have defeated Set without her. And Alison, knows how to win battles. It's one thing to keep the Birds of Prey out of this, but what sense does it make to exclude them? They already know what's happening. And they can help us stop it. We need their help if we're going to save Nicolas. We can't dismiss powerful allies for no good reason like this."

<< Okay, this was too much. She rose from her seat. >>

"Well how ABJECTLY poetic that was. Fine. Call them. I don't give a fuck. But if any of them die? It's on YOUR hands, Delilah. It's about time you felt the HEAT that comes with leading this team. As for everything else? I don't give a shit. Plan and move the goddamn pieces on the board how you see FIT. I need to see Nicolas. Now where is he?"

The Clocktower

Zach was looking over Ash, concerned about her potential injuries, but she was smiling and scratching his beard. He relaxed a bit, seeing she was ultimately okay. Then she told him how terrible it was, asking for help killing demons and carrying chairs, but that was balanced by her getting to chop Haleigh’s head off.

Haleigh hurt you?”

He asked darkly, because it didn’t matter if she’d lost her head, when she came back around like the undead terror that she was, he was going to read her the riot act. Ashley coyly asked how it had gone with all his exes. He could tell she was teasing him, so he smiled a bit as he replied.

“Well I didn’t decapitate anyone, but overall I’d still say it could’ve gone better.”

Viv relayed the short version of what happened with Delilah and asked how it went here. Ashley replied that the gist of it was Cameron telling them to go fuck themselves.

“Yeah, that sounds like Cameron alright. Listen, regardless of what they say, they need our help. They’re all extra fucked up since Haleigh left the team. Not a single one of them came through unscathed, I mean the emotional trauma is off the charts. We finally got Delilah to agree to keep us posted, but still think we need to prepare for the worst.”

He took a deep breath, settling in next to Ash with his arm cast across the back of the sofa behind her. There really wasn’t an easy way to present this.

“Delilah insists Cameron can handle it, but Viv and I are doubtful. If he fails, we’re looking at facing Malice in Nic’s skin and Set. Ziz, I had Spectre email you the relevant Clandestine dossiers. Would you mind pulling those up on the big screen?”

The Island of Aerie — Minerva’s Mansion

Alison: "We do not have time for this bickering."

“Don’t you shake your stick at me, woman, not unless you want help shoving it up your ass.

She fired back, and then she reminded Alison just how the precog had endorsed Haleigh’s going to Hellfire, how she’d warned Haleigh that everybody had a death glow, and how Alison had made sure to say things in such a way that Haleigh had made her decision the way she had.

Delilah: "Well maybe you should have listened when the rest of us told you what a shitting turd of an idea it was!"

Haleigh’s fury found a new target. Delilah could get some too if she wanted to start shit. There were a lot of things Haleigh would apologize for, but she’d die FOR REAL before she apologized for trying to shield them from her mother.

“Oh yeah, because my OTHER option was to lead you all, headlong and half-cocked into a battle at Hellfire. THAT’S what YOU wanted to do. Would that have made you happy, to die THEN? FUCK me for wanting everyone to live as long as possible, I know that was CRUEL of me.”

Morgan cut in and distracted Delilah with a pointed comment about how they couldn’t all be the shining moral compass that Delilah was. Haleigh turned back to Alison, pushing her to speak plainly. She asked directly if Malice would succeed in making a deal, and then prompted her to share any bright ideas if she had them. Alison just shook her head, telling Haleigh she never changed, that it would be her downfall. Haleigh rolled her eyes, and Alison tried to tell her that she knew what she was getting into, that she would only buy the others time.

Haleigh clenched her hands into fists. She wanted to punch Alison right in her smug mouth, but what Alison said next took the fire right out of Haleigh. It would not be enough to save everyone. Set would be released, and they were past the point of no return. Morgan stuck up for Haleigh, which was appreciated, but still Haleigh felt crushed by the weight of what was coming, and what she’d have to do. She collapsed into the nearest seat, dropping her head into her hands as Delilah tried into convince them to let Isis and Alison help, as if that would make a difference. Hadn’t she HEARD what Alison said? Cameron would miss the mark. Malice would get to Nic and release Set. Haleigh wanted to cry, but instead she shut down.

Malice: Good. Emotion was making you weak.

You’re right… I need to detach now. You’re right.

Haleigh thought back, taking a deep breath. Morgan lost her patience, agreeing to letting Isis help, more to satisfy Delilah than anything. She needed to see Nic and was tired of being stonewalled. Haleigh lifted her face from her hands and patiently looked at Delilah.

“Delilah, it’s time for you to start thinking about how you’re going to survive this, for Alexia’s sake. I know it’s hard, but Alison JUST said we wouldn’t be able to save everyone. She’s talking about Nicolas, and if we’re lucky, him and Cameron will be the only ones we lose to this. I bet Alison knew we’d agree to their help. I bet we haven’t changed to outcome. Whatever Isis can do won’t be enough. You don’t have to be here for this.”

Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

:: The level of vitriol and PAIN in Morgan's voice caused Dominique to take a moment to survey the situation, her eyes narrowing at the huddled MESS of a woman before her. One thing that both the women had shared over the years was that while their lives may have been falling apart, while duty may have called them at all hours of the day and night, they always make sure they LOOKED good. And despite her natural beauty, Morgan did not look well. ::

"Goddess, she's BOMBED!?"

Haleigh: "Hey FUCK YOU LADY. She's been through a lot of SHIT lately, and she doesn't need any more of YOU."

:: Isis turned her gaze to Haleigh, her stone cold expression never wavering. ::

"She's a grown woman, Haleigh. I'm not giving her [mockingly] "shit", I'm giving her a healthy dose of REALITY. And watch your MOUTH, you troglodyte. When it comes to my nephew and SET, I have to be in the loop."

Harbinger: "We do not have time for this bickering."

Delilah: "Oh, let's make time."

:: Dominique eyed Delilah up and down. She had gotten closer to the woman over the past few months, and she was one of the few members of The Six she actually respected. But it was clear she still had lingering pain over what had happened to her and her daughter, though she wished it wasn't spilling out now. ::

Morgan: "Oh NOW she has an opinion. WELCOME to the party, Delilah!"

"Goddess, Morgan. How drunk ARE you?"

Morgan: "And we WILL defend ourselves."

:: Even still her statue like demeanor did not shift. Isis was not a woman who was intimidated by others. And while Haleigh and Morgan's downright petulance infuriated her to no end, she was not about to throw the kind of tantrum they were throwing. Somebody had to keep their cool in a time like this. ::

"Got it. So you have, in fact, no plan whatsoever, go on..."

:: Her sultry contralto voice seemed to hover and reverberate in the air as she spoke. These children had been able to get away with murder for TOO long, but they were not hers to discipline. They would burn themselves at one point or another. Isis' only concern was SET! ::

Haleigh: Haleigh: “So speak plainly now, Alison. Is my mother going to succeed in making a deal with Set? If there’s some ideal way to handle this, NOW is the time to share what you’ve seen.”

:: Though it was decidedly bitchy, it was something that Dominique had been wondering herself, but had been hesitant to ask. It seemed so implausible - that a god would get in bed with some mortal woman. And that somebody like Diana would be so desperate to save face after her obliteration in Hellfire that she would actually unleash hell on Earth and watch it burn for revenge. But then she remembered who she was dealing with and why she had kept her DISTANCE from those in The Sisterhood. It had been why she had been such a staunch advocate of the truce. Because now, the gloves were off and look where they were at? ::

Haleigh: “I know you know what I’m talking about. Don’t play with us, don’t try that cryptic ‘death glow on everybody’ BULLSHIT you fed me right before I gave myself over to Hellfire. You said exactly what you needed to convince me to go. I did a lot of shit I’m not proud of because I BELIEVED it would keep them from dying, and it turns out I just borrowed time for them, time enough to TRAUMATIZE them all.”

Harbinger: "Isis is here, tending to her charge. Preparing him for what's to come. She has not, as others have, abandoned him or given up on him. And as for Hellfire..."

:: Dominique delivered a scathing glance at Morgan as Alison spoke. Nicolas had loved Morgan so much, but Dominique was always hesitant. Love was a complicated emotion for somebody like Nicolas. And of course he loved somebody as powerful as Spellbinder. Isis always felt as if it were a recipe for disaster that would only bring Set back sooner than anticipated. And WHERE had she been during all of this? Why hadn't she gone to see him? ::

Harbinger: "Do NOT presume to blame me for your own rash decisions. You could have come to me, before you went to Sheena Island, we could have CHOSEN the best course forward. But you DIDN'T. You ran headlong into something that only made things worse, only ensured that you brought about the worst case scenario. You don't want my help - you just want someone to blame when you FAIL."

"Hero. Martyr. Victim. Villain. Pick a narrative, Black Widow. A seer cannot make decisions for you, they can only inform you about decisions you WILL make and their outcomes. You alone are responsible for yourself. Not Alison."

Harbinger: "You knew going in to this that your actions would only buy the others time, time to ready themselves. But it will not be enough to save everyone you care about."

Delilah: "Well maybe you should have listened when the rest of us told you what a shitting turd of an idea it was!"

"Darling, Helen Keller would know it was a bad idea."

Alison's eyes scanned the room.

Harbinger: "Set WILL be released. We are past the point where this can be avoided. Now...are you absolutely determined to go through with this plan of yours?"

:: Dominique felt like the WIND had been taken out of her sails. Her fears had been confirmed. She had no more time for these trivialities. She needed to prepare. ::

Morgan: "Oh fuck off Alison. She did what she thought was best. Like WE did. You can't crucify HER without looking at yourself. A hard decision had to be made and she MADE it.."

:: She had half a mind to conjure a CORK for the woman's mouth, but thankfully Delilah interjected some sense into the situation. ::

Morningstar: "The plan - is to prevent Set from controlling Nicolas and coming back into this world. Are you certain we can't stop this? Isis helped us before. We couldn't have defeated Set without her. And Alison, knows how to win battles. It's one thing to keep the Birds of Prey out of this, but what sense does it make to exclude them? They already know what's happening. And they can help us stop it. We need their help if we're going to save Nicolas. We can't dismiss powerful allies for no good reason like this."

:: Dominique felt a bittersweet taste in her mouth as she thought of The Birds of Prey. The team had not been an easy fit for her. She could not STAND Valkyrie and her treatment of Sharon and Alycia, but there were bright spots, specifically Elizabeth and Vivica. Her heart skipped a beat when the memories of what transpired with The Birds and Gabriel Jerome. She had hesitated to involve them, and he had paid the price with his life. She would not make the same mistake twice. Morgan's twisted words jolted her back into reality.

Morgan: "Well how ABJECTLY poetic that was. Fine.

:: Dominique manifested her golden Sceptre of Isis as she too, clacked it on the ground, halting Morgan's words, walking closer to her. ::

"I don't know exactly what it is you've been going through, Spellbinder. But it's made you positively DISGUSTING. You are not the only one in the world suffering, and your understanding of the word is MINIMAL at best. Nicolas is at the pool, but before you go to him, do me a favor. Have a cup of coffee, get the medics to give you a banana bag...and SOBER up. Whatever it is that's bothering you? SWALLOW it. If I am to do battle with Set? If my nephew could possibly lose his LIFE in the process? I'd rather him have his last memories of the woman he loves not be the drunken, miserable, SHELL of a woman that's standing in front of me. Understand?"

:: Surprisingly, Morgan nodded and headed out of the room as Dominique turned her attention to the other women. ::

Haleigh: “Delilah, it’s time for you to start thinking about how you’re going to survive this, for Alexia’s sake.

"Just because Set will be unleashed doesn't mean he won't be DESTROYED. He has yet to face me since I have fully taken the mantle of Isis as my own. I am not the same woman he faced last time. None of us are. This is grim. But destiny changes all the time. Delilah not being here could be the very thing that ends Nicolas, or it could be what saves him. There are things that are unknowable, even to a Seer, until they happen..."

:: She gave a pensive look to Alison before turning her gaze back to Haleigh. ::

"That is a remarkably unfair and unkind thing to say to a friend, Haleigh. She leaves and you die? She lives with the guilt forever. She stays and dies? She leaves her child behind never having truly known her. So I will do her a kindness..."

:: Dominique turned to Delilah. ::

"I want you here. You are the only one who's made any kind of sense since I walked into this room. I trust you in battle, and I trust you in general. And you were right. We need The Birds of Prey. They may make all the difference...I must go to them now, and when I return, I expect to see you here, Morningstar."

:: Isis nodded to Alison before disappearing in a flurry of gale force winds, appearing in the common area of The Clocktower where the team was gathered trying to share information and hopefully gain insight. ::

"Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed...and....I....would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

whoever is playing Isis here, I applaud you for really knowing this character & how she would respond to these women in this moment. It's sad to see the respect she & Morgan had for one another has apparently disappeared too
Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

Alison didn't even bother to respond to Delilah's childish goading. These three women before her had all fallen so far since she'd left the Six to protect Barbara Minerva's "secrets of the world" kept safe here on Aerie. Now they were just a bunch of squawking hens.

Haleigh on the other hand, she would address. Haleigh had known exactly what she was doing when she went to Hellfire. And to pretend like Alison had tricked her into it to cause her distress was just insulting.

Morgan: "Oh fuck off Alison. She did what she thought was best. Like WE did. You can't crucify HER without looking at yourself. A hard decision had to be made and she MADE it.."

"I know ALL ABOUT making the hard decisions. But that's how it goes - I don't blame anyone else when I make them!"

But despite Haleigh and Morgan's bad behavior, she did intend to find out if they were intent upon the course of action they had decided upon. To make sure they understood what it was and the consequences.

It soon became clear that Delilah had once again been left out of Morgan and Haleigh's plan. Not that she blamed them - Delilah would never go along with this, even if it was necessary. But whether her being here would make any difference...it was still too cloudy to tell.

Delilah: "The plan is to prevent Set from controlling Nicolas and coming back into this world. Are you certain we can't stop this?"

Alison gave her a look and refused to answer. They all knew that if she wasn't certain, she would have said as much.

Delilah: "Isis helped us before. We couldn't have defeated Set without her. And Alison knows how to win battles."

I'm surprised the bitch didn't choke on those words.

Delilah: "We need their help if we're going to save Nicolas. We can't dismiss powerful allies for no good reason like this."

"Not to mention the fact that I don't know how you would intend to keep Isis and I away? Surely that would take MUCH more effort than it's worth."

Morgan: "Well how ABJECTLY poetic that was. Fine.

Morgan was in such a way that she wasn't even hearing what Delilah was saying correctly. Isis told Morgan where to find Nicolas - then gave her a severe dressing down, but it was one she needed to hear.

Haleigh, however, looked defeated already, and was trying to convince Delilah to leave.

Haleigh: "Whatever Isis can do won’t be enough. You don’t have to be here for this.”

Alison spread her hands in front of her.

"This is a foe we've fought together before. As the embodiment of Isis, Dominique gives us an advantage against Set as she did the last time - even more than she did last time. You both KNOW this to be true. Even if you are determined upon this course, it will not be an easy one. Are you certain you will be enough? Are you PREPARED to live with your actions?"

She shook her head.

"The last time we faced Set, I wanted to KILL Nicolas (and Mike ;)) for what he had done. How he had caused Ava and I to be lost in that alternate reality. But killing him wasn't the answer. We united, as a TEAM, with Isis and the Sisterhood. It took ALL of us to win the day. It will take ALL of us again."

Isis: "Just because Set will be unleashed doesn't mean he won't be DESTROYED.

Alison nodded, solemnly. Isis had kind words for Delilah, which she could have SAVED - if Delilah needed coddling like a child, which she clearly did, they were probably better off without her.

Though if nothing else, Delilah could be CANNON FODDER for Set.

Alison smiled a little to herself, then turned towards Haleigh and Delilah as Isis made a conspicuous exit.

"When you're done yelling, I've had rooms prepared here at the Mansion for all of you."

Assuming they would either not be here long enough or would not want to separate to go to their individual residences on Aerie.

"I shall return to my study."

There were things she wanted to peruse in her scrying glass.

And without further discussion, Alison blinked out of the room.

Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

Things had devolved into shouting. Quickly.

Morgan: "Oh NOW she has an opinion. WELCOME to the party, Delilah!"

It was interesting that Morgan only heard her when she was being snarky. And Morgan seemed to be forgetting that she and Haleigh were the ones that had blindsided DELILAH, without telling her ANYTHING about what they were doing.

"Maybe you just weren't listening - AS USUAL."

She told Haleigh they'd all known her going to Hellfire was a stupid idea - but she hadn't listened.

Haleigh: “Oh yeah, because my OTHER option was to lead you all, headlong and half-cocked into a battle at Hellfire. THAT’S what YOU wanted to do. Would that have made you happy, to die THEN? FUCK me for wanting everyone to live as long as possible, I know that was CRUEL of me.”

"Or, you could BELIEVE in your teammates. And not decide FOR THEM."

Morgan: "Well, we all can't just be the bright shining compass of morality ALL the time, Delilah, now can we? That's YOUR job. How's it going by the way? Feel good? Feel BETTER than everyone else?"

"It's not about morality, it's about not being a martyr when no one asked you to be one! And at least I'm not shitfaced when we could be fighting Set in the next twenty minutes."

Haleigh had at Alison for not telling her what would happen at Hellfire, and Alison responded with her usual "no one heeds my warnings" bullcrap.

Morgan: "Oh fuck off Alison. She did what she thought was best. Like WE did. You can't crucify HER without looking at yourself. A hard decision had to be made and she MADE it.."

"Yeah, she made it, no matter what anyone - no matter what her friends - thought!"

She tried to plead for sanity, that Alison and Isis were valuable assets in what was to come.

Morgan: "Well how ABJECTLY poetic that was. Fine.

"That's not what I..."

She sighed. Why bother. They would do what they wanted, because that's what they always did. Morgan left to find Nicolas.

Haleigh: “Delilah, it’s time for you to start thinking about how you’re going to survive this, for Alexia’s sake.

"We are NOT losing Cameron."

If she had to go to the astral plane herself and drag him back in a CAGE, he was coming home.

Isis: "Delilah not being here could be the very thing that ends Nicolas, or it could be what saves him. There are things that are unknowable, even to a Seer, until they happen...I want you here. You are the only one who's made any kind of sense since I walked into this room. I trust you in battle, and I trust you in general. And you were right. We need The Birds of Prey. They may make all the difference...I must go to them now, and when I return, I expect to see you here, Morningstar."

"You will."

Delilah nodded to her, giving her a small smile. Isis was the only person here she wasn't fighting with, and at this particular moment, her words meant everything.

"If we don't win here, what good will my life be? I won't let Alexia live in that world."

Delilah wouldn't cower while her friends fought Set. If they failed, Alexia would never come home. Winning was the only option.

"And I'm not ready to give up on this one."

Harbinger: "When you're done yelling, I've had rooms prepared here at the Mansion for all of you."

And then she blinked out, the bitch. Delilah was now alone with Haleigh, not her favorite place to be.

Delilah made her way to an empty chair and sank down into it. She glanced at Haleigh out of the side of her eye. She looked dejected. When Delilah finally spoke, her voice was calm, but tired.

"Did you ever think that maybe we would have rather fought with you than against you, even if it meant we lost?"

The Clocktower

Thank the gods, Zach was back. She gave him a rundown of her grievances, but had to admit that chopping Haleigh's head off had balanced it out. Well, SOME of it.

Zach:Haleigh hurt you?”

She looked up at him from where she was laying on the couch, and waved a hand in the air.

"Well, it was really a demon or something that looked like Haleigh, but still, it was cathartic."

She asked how it had gone for him and Vivica.

Zach: “Well I didn’t decapitate anyone, but overall I’d still say it could’ve gone better.”

Ashley nodded knowingly.

"Next time, decapitate someone. It will make you feel better."

She gave the short version of Rae's conversation with Cameron: a giant middle finger to them all.

Zach: “Yeah, that sounds like Cameron alright.

"So what you're saying is, it's a Godzilla meets Tokyo sort of moment."

Ash exhaled loudly.

"Well, they absolutely need our help. What do we do next?"

Zach sat next to her, putting his arm on the couch behind her. She settled in closer to his side.

Zach: “Delilah insists Cameron can handle it, but Viv and I are doubtful. If he fails, we’re looking at facing Malice in Nic’s skin and Set. Ziz, I had Spectre email you the relevant Clandestine dossiers. Would you mind pulling those up on the big screen?”

Zizi acquiesced, and Ashley looked hard at what was coming up in front of them.

"I remember Helena boasting about defeating Set, but I never really knew the details."

A whirlwind of golden light and swirling sands appeared in front of them as the Clocktower's security system announced her arrival.

Ashley's eyes flew to Zizi.

"You didn't remove her access?!"

Ashley stood to face an incoming Isis.

Isis: "Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed...and....I....would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

"I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

She'd never got along with Dominique, not since their first meeting, but after what she did when Zizi asked for HER help to save Gabe? Ashley would NEVER forgive her for what she'd done to Zizi. NEVER.

Zizi was trying to keep busy while her mind worked. It was also keeping her awake, as was the immense amount of caffeine she had already imbibed.

Vivica: "The Six can eat a dick, I swear to GOD!"

Zach and Vivica appeared thanks to Danny Donnelly.

Ashley: "I'm not sure they can, actually."

"Ladies!"

Zizi did NOT have the energy for potty mouths right now.

Vivica: "I'm sure Zach can spin this a lot better, but they don't want us involved, they're mad that Rae is reaching out to Cameron, and we were explicitly told it wasn't their job to "find" work for us..."

Zizi's eyes widened.

"Find-"

She pursed her lips.

"Find work."

The knife Zizi held in her hand sliced through a piece of honeydew melon with a satisfying thunk on the cutting board.

"For US."

It was incredibly difficult to not take exception to a comment such as that. Zizi finished the fruit board she was making and wiped her hands on a dishtowel. Setting it onto her lap as she wheeled herself into the sitting area, she set the tray on the coffee table, then found a place next to the sofa.

Vivica: "I'm guessing you guys didn't fare any better?"

Ashley: "Rae talked to him, but I think the gist was, 'Go fuck yourselves.'"

"Ashley! Today is NOT the day!"

She was getting a headache. The solution was probably too much caffeine. Or not enough.

Zach: “Yeah, that sounds like Cameron alright.

"Well, thank heavens for small favors, I guess. That's more than we had before Hellfire."

"Of course, Zach honey."

Zizi wheeled herself over to her workstation and picked up the controller, bringing it back with her to the living area.

"Cameron King does not have a very bright track record, so I tend to agree: assume worst case scenario."

ZIzi touched the control pad and the files opened on the large projection.

"Zach, want to take us through these?"

A trademark entrance was being made, and Ashley looked angrily to her, but Zizi just shrugged. Isis was announced, and then she appeared in front of them.

Isis: "Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed...and...I...would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

Ashley: "I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

"Ashley."

Zizi felt herself freeze up, her body tensing. It was a while before she could say anything else. Seeing Isis before her, it brought everything back. That night. Gabe. The What Ifs. Her mouth was like sandpaper. She reached for her Big Gulp, and took a long drag. Her hands were shaking. She held tight to the cup, steadying herself. And then, after what seemed like forever, she finally spoke.

"Of course. Of course we will go to Aerie."

Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

"Fucking bitch...who the fuck does she think she is....I should have knocked her BLOCK off is what I should have done...."

<< Morgan continued to mumble under breath continuously as she fumed through the halls of the mansion, kicking the door open of the kitchen, walking over to the fridge, and opening it to find a canister of iced coffee. >>

"I need to sober up? YOU sober up, BITCH..."

<< She downed the entire canister in record time, wiping her mouth sloppily before throwing the canister into the sink, hearing it shatter as she smirked to herself, self satisfied, she was so angry, and as the caffeine coursed through her body, she continued to rampage through the halls, before walking right into Alison's bedroom and into her bathroom. >>

"Like I need her fucking advice. The last time I checked?! That bitch could--"

<< Gasp! >>

<< Spellbinder had been avoiding mirrors lately with good reason, but now? She had just caught sight of herself, and she was horrified, and not solely for vain reasons, though they were there. Her icy violet eyes were swollen and somewhat red. Her porcelain skin seemed dull, and worse - a bit oily. Her hair was frizzy, unkempt. And the aura of confidence she'd always has was gone. She didn't recognize herself. And it got worse the longer she looked. Pain. Regret. Sadness. All of these feelings welled up inside of her, as tears welled up in her eyes, and her chest heaved with relief, as if all of her feelings were coming out at once. She wailed for a few moments, crying so hard that she had to hold her chest to try and gain her breath. Nicolas was going to die, Set was going to be unleashed, and she no longer had the power to stop it herself. She had nothing. She had nobody. >>

"What are you doing, Morgan? What the fuck are you doing?"

<< She sniffled, rubbing her nose before grabbing some tissue from Alison's vanity, wiping her eyes, unable to stop looking at herself. So much so that she didn't hear Alison enter the room. >>

Harbinger: "I've got some makeup in that first drawer there, hair products in that cabinet...Come, let me help you. We can't have Nicolas see you like this, now can we?"

<< Her hand was on Morgan's shoulder as their eyes met in their reflections in the mirror. She didn't have the heart to tell Alison that she secretly, in another, not life threatening scenario, would WANT Nicolas to see her like this. It was the most real and vulnerable she had ever been or looked in her life. But she knew that Alison was trying to help, and she also knew that Nicolas didn't need her like this - he needed the woman she had always been. It was so bittersweet to see Alison again, but in this moment, it felt so good to have her by her side. >>

"Alison....[somberly] Thank You...."

<< Several moments later, Morgan stepped out Alison's bathroom, leaving Harbinger with a hug as she made her way towards the pool. Stepping inside the large indoor area, she saw him, and felt butterflies in her stomach, but not for the same reasons. She watched him move the water with a strength and poise, his beautiful skin seeming to glow even through the water, as Mike laid in a pool chair across the distance. The two gave each other a knowing glance as Mike grabbed his towel and headed out of the room. >>

<< Soon, Rampage's head popped out of the water and they gave each other a surprisingly relaxed smile as he made his way towards the end of the pool, instantly he reached for her with his classic bravado, pulling her into a deep and passionate kiss. Despite their problems, she still felt the electricity upon tasting his lips, and how safe she felt against his strong and lean muscular body. She had to pull herself a way as she gave him a smile. >>

"I was wondering if you'd be happy to see me...or was that pure carnal INSTINCT?"

<< Her hands slid down to his, hating herself for how comfortable and easy it was to be like this with him. And then she remembered Derek. Her body tensed up for just a moment, as she pulled her hand away, instead running it through her hair for a moment. >>

"I just spoke with Alison and Dominique...it's...it's bad, Nicolas...and I don't think we have much time...Diana is unleashing Set..."

Morgan prefers champagne, or hemlock! :p but she'd be of no use to anyone if she consumed hemlock right now LOL!

Oracle:
"Find work. For US."

Vivica smirked. It always gave her a bit of pervase pleasure to see Oracle's feathers a bit ruffled in the same sense that you wanted to get the good girl in school drunk just to see if she would remain chaste or give into temptation like everyone else. It made her realize how much she had truly missed Zizi. Vivica inquired about how the others fared.

Ashley: "Rae talked to him, but I think the gist was, 'Go fuck yourselves.' "

Zach: "Yeah, that sounds like Cameron alright. Listen, regardless of what they say, they need our help. They're all extra fucked up since Haleigh left the team. Not a single one of them came through unscathed, I mean the emotional trauma is off the charts. We finally got Delilah to agree to keep us posted, but I still think we need to prepare for the worst."

While in Miami, Vivica had thrown herself into work, trying her best to ignore what had transpired over the last few months, as best as a woman with her type of power could. Now, it came to her in painful waves. The loss, not just in the room, but in her circle at large was palpable. Jasmine. Gabe. Her world was turned upside down, and while she had grown so much from all of it, there were still parts of her old self, of her old insecurities that liked to rear it's ugly head when she left herself alone with her thoughts. When Haleigh defected, she was scared. Vivica was essentially a living piece of Clandestine tech, and for as much as she trusted Zach with her life, she was afraid that at some point during it all, Haleigh would claim her as her own. She hadn't, but that didn't help her sleep at night. It would always be a possibility for Vivica until she knew exactly where Haleigh's allegiance lied.

Oracle: "Well, thank heavens for small favors, I guess. That's more than we had before Hellfire."

Zach: "Delilah insists Cameron can handle it, but Viv and I are doubtful. If he fails, we're looking at facing Malice in Nic's skin and Set. Ziz, I had Spectre email you the relevant Clandestine dossiers. Would you mind pulling those up on the big screen?"

She was doubtful, and also resentful of Delilah. The woman had so much faith in Cameron. Perhaps Vivica was jealous, or perhaps she had just been let down by Cameron too many times to believe, but he always jumped head first, and he always relied on others to fill in the gaps on things he refused to account for. But she too, remembered a time where she would have jumped off a cliff, if he had asked her to. She hoped for Delilah's sake that her trust was warranted.

Oracle: "Of course, Zach honey. Cameron King does not have a very bright track record, so I tend to agree: assume worst case scenario."

"It is worst case scenario. He's swinging for the fences here. I know him. It's desperate."

Oracle: "Zach, want to take us through these?"

The files loaded up, being projected to them, but all was ignored when Isis appeared in front of them.

Isis: "Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed....and....I...would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

"Ugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....."

Vivica's stomach turned. She knew with Set she would have to face Isis, but she was unprepared for the lack of resolve she still felt about things. Oracle had welcomed Dominique, Sharon and Alycia with open arms into The Birds of Prey, and Vivica had very much bent over backwards to make them feel welcome, despite her own feelings. She attempted to bury the hatchet with Alycia, a woman who had tried to destroy Vivica's livelihood because of her associations with Cameron. Vivica had to bob and weave against trumped up SEC charges as she faced thousands of employees asking why Vivica was letting them go. All because Morgan had asked her to. Still, she did what she had to do because Oracle believed in them. And then there was Sharon Kelly, a woman who had once been a powerful politician in New York. Vivica hated identity politics and often found that Sharon was a woman who touted change while never actually doing anything good for the communities that Vivica had come from and identified with, but still she persisted. She felt like she had made actual progress with Dominique, felt like she had come away from things with a deeper understanding, but Dominique couldn't get over herself, and it was that pride that left Gabriel Jerome dead. The last person she wanted to see was Dominique Devereaux.

Ashley: "I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

It was a sentiment she shared.

Oracle: "Ashley."

Her eyes went to Elizabeth and then they flickered with rage as she could sense the pain Oracle was in at seeing Isis again. Isis had bitten the hand that fed her and now she was showing up rallying the truths like nothing had transpired between them. This certainly could not stand!

Oracle: "Of course. Of course we will go to Aerie."

Vivica HATED it. But Elizabeth York was the best person she had ever met. And she made a promise to her when The Birds of Prey formed that she would follow Oracle's leadership, because more often than not. She was right. Zizi never let her personal feelings get in the way of what the right thing to do was, and while a part of her thought she was just serving another personality like she had with Cameron, the difference was that Oracle never made her feel dirty. In fact, listening to Oracle often made her a better person.

"Let's at least hear what she has to say. But quickly, Dominique. And remember we owe you nothing."

The Clocktower

Rae couldn't have been less bothered with the words of The Birds of Prey as she sat in a chair in the living quarters of The Clocktower. Her mind was racing. Set's energy was unlike anything she had ever experienced. She was worried. Especially after her meeting with Cameron. She was surrounded by so many powerful people, and none of them seemed to have the answer. It didn't sit right with her. She had to try and do something, so she reached out to the one person she thought might be able to help them, all the while appearing to sit in her chair and sip from her flask. Jezebel called out with her soul.

"St. Michael, The Archangel, Defend us in Battle. Be our Protection Against the Wickedness and Snares Of The Devil..."

She called to him, and he came as he always did. He was her guide, and he was the longest relationship she had ever sustained with a "man". Michael had been there for her as a girl, helped her through the abuse of her father, and guided her on her path as a medium and mystic for as long as she could remember. There were many myths around him, and what he looked like, and over the years it had changed for Rae, but the one image that seemed to stick for the longest was that of the first boy she ever really loved - Billy Winchester, a rebel without a cause, and a boy who died to too soon. As a courtesy to Rae, Michael seemed to age somewhat parallel to her, though he always looked much younger. She had called to him because she felt like the world was very much going to end, and she had never been in this kind of situation before. As she felt the warmth of his lips on her cheek, she settled, feeling safe.

Michael: "My sweet girl. I can sense your fear from the heavens. What troubles you?"

"Oh you know, an Egyptian DEATH God is gonna destroy the fucking Earth, Michael! Or haven't you been paying attention?"

The warmth of his wings delicately played against her face, as she turned to face him, relieved that he was as beautiful as ever. In the bible, he was the only archangel, one of the chief princes. The one who stood guard over Israel. But to her, he was a friend and confidant. She pulled no punches with him.

Michael: "We are aware, Glorianna. But what do you expect us to do? The ending and rebirth of the world is an inevitability. Sometimes it works in our favor? Other times, we must put our tail between our legs and bide our time...until our gospel yearns to be heard again..."

Glorianna was her heavenly name, one that only he and a few select creatures of high divinity called her.

"Michael, I'm serious. This is like nothing I've encountered. I feel it...so deeply in my soul. I can SEE Set...I can FEEL him...and what he's going to do to this place. You're telling me we can't fight this? More people believe in God than SET."

She watched as Michael pulled away from her, manifesting his mighty shield in one hand and a scale in the other. He had always been known to weigh souls to test their depth. This was not a good sign.

Michael: "This is not our war to fight. Set is not our devil. We hold no more dominion over him than an apple to an orange. We cannot intervene. It's not right."

"Well isn't that FUCKING convenient. Look. I'm here! I'm a living goddamn conduit. I gotta be able to DO something. I can't just sit back and watch the world BURN. I won't!"

She hated this. Rae had done a lot in her life, but as she aged, she became perpetually worried about how effective she could be. She wasn't a warrior like these people. She could fight, but not like them. And she was scared to walk into battle like this, because she simply never had done anything like this before.

Michael: "I am by your side always, Rae. You need me? I'm yours...but I'm not enough. I may command the angels, but against Set, they are no defense. I can sense how important this is to you...so I will help if I can. But it will just be me. And it will not be enough. Can you accept that?"

Rae could...but she didn't want to. She was in her sixties. Going into something like this felt like certain death, but she couldn't walk away. Not from Danny, not from Oracle, not from ANY of these people.

"If I'm gonna die...I want you with me, Michael. I want your wings shielding the bullets meant for me."

Michael: "I have been with you from the beginning, and I will see you through the end. But right now? You need to listen."

She was JOLTED back into reality at the appearance of Isis in The Clocktower.

Isis: "Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed....and....I...would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

Ashley: "I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

Oracle: "Of course. Of course we will go to Aerie."

Recall: "Let's at least hear what she has to say. But quickly, Dominique. And remember we owe you nothing."

She could feel Michael whispering in her ear. Isis was one of the only ones who COULD help things. Rae would listen.

"Or everyone could get the fuck over themselves, and do as the woman BORN TO DEFEAT SET wants us to do!"

[flippantly]

"Now OUT with it, ISIS!"

The Clocktower

Ashley:
"I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

"I do have a lot of nerve, Ashley. And it would serve you well to NEVER forget that."

Oracle: "Ashley. Of course. Of course we will go to Aerie."

:: Dominique looked as Oracle with a somber glance. She was such a strong woman. So much so that often Dominique didn't believe her. Surely nobody was that virtuous, but there was Elizabeth, constantly trying to prove her wrong. These people were so connected. So happy together. It both made her happy and sad. They were riding the wave of a few successes, but they still hadn't truly lost in the ways that their counterparts had. Nothing had happened to them that would truly test their connections. Until now. Still, Isis had things to apologize for. ::

"I hesitated with Gabriel. He died because of me. I live with that everyday. And it is a situation I do not wish to repeat. So I have come to you first. Out of all the would be heroes in this universe, I come back to you. The Six is broken. They are fractured, and I am no seer, but I do not ever anticipate seeing that fracture repaired. You all, however, are a team. You always have been. In many ways, you are STRONGER than them. The Six has raw power...but you all have a connection. You respect each other. You move as a unit. If we have any chance of surviving this...it will be because of who you are as a TEAM."

:: She was trying to appeal to their senses. She really did need them, but she was worried that they were TOO confident of their connection. Could they really deal with the potential fallout of an event like this? ::

"This is what you are looking for, isn't it? The chance to be heroes. To succeed where The Six has failed? I can sense the energy in this room, and it is horrifically misguided. It is so easy to blame, and to speculate when you are so protected from the fallout. This is your chance to experience a taste. This is your chance to do what must be done, despite how poorly you will be received afterwards. That being said...."

[flatly]

"I need you. I am willing to grovel. I am willing to apologize, but I cannot stress enough how LITTLE time we have. So...if you can't get over yourself? If you can't recognize this as a special circumstance and put aside your feelings? Then don't. Enjoy being right for the last few minutes you have left on Earth. I hope it was worth it."

The Island of Aerie — Minerva’s Mansion

Dominique imposed herself on their conversation and started with immediate disrespect. Haleigh wasn’t going to let that fly, sho she stuck up for Morgan, who really didn’t need any shit from the likes of Isis. Dominique tried to come back and tell Haleigh to watch her mouth. Haleigh flipped her off with both middle fingers. She had more important things to address, like the fact that Alison was here again, acting like her know-it-all self while also giving everybody a hard time about the decisions that had been made.

Delilah wanted to chime in here too, but Haleigh wasn’t going to accept the premise that the BETTER move would have been immediate, unprepared warfare. And if that WOULD have been better? Alison could have TOLD HER. But she hadn’t. Morgan pointed out that there had been a hard decision to make, and Haleigh had made it. Delilah tried to say she could have believed in her teammates instead, as if that would’ve kept them alive.

Alison: "I know ALL ABOUT making the hard decisions. But that's how it goes - I don't blame anyone else when I make them!"

“No, you just GRIND HARD into everybody else for making such decisions, and even when you walk them straight into what they choose, you want to abdicate all responsibility so YOU don’t have to feel bad about what you know will happen next.”

Dominique: "Hero. Martyr. Victim. Villain. Pick a narrative, Black Widow. A seer cannot make decisions for you, they can only inform you about decisions you WILL make and their outcomes. You alone are responsible for yourself. Not Alison."

“NOBODY ASKED YOU, DOMINIQUE!”

Haleigh shot back, and then they started discussing the issue at hand, with Alison needling them about what they planned to do. Haleigh answered honestly, that they’d do whatever they had to. She knew she didn’t have to say they’d kill Nic. She knew Alison already knew that, and she suggested that if Alison had a better idea, now was the time. Alison, as usual, was unhelpful. Morgan was done with this debate, and wanted to see Nicolas. Dominique admonished Morgan to sober up.

Haleigh had lost the will to argue at this point, and just shook her head as she tried to grapple with the fact that they really WERE going to have to deal with Malice and Set. She couldn’t allow emotion to overwhelm her here, she knew it would be detrimental to the mission. Her mother seemed to like that, but Haleigh couldn’t be bothered to resist any more. She turned to Delilah, gently explaining that they were going to lose Nicolas, and if they were lucky, it would only be him and Cameron.

Delilah: “We are NOT losing Cameron."

Haleigh shook her head and pressed on. Delilah was determined to deny reality. Haleigh told her that she didn’t need to be here for this. Alison interjected with the caution that their determined course was not an easy one. Thanks, Captain Fucking Obvious. Alison asked if she was certain it would be enough, and if Haleigh was prepared to live with her actions, as if she’d never met Haleigh, as if she didn’t see Haleigh sitting her right now, living with all the actions she’d taken preceding this very moment.

“Am I PREPARED? What the fuck do YOU think? I don’t hear you suggesting a different course of action, ALISON.”

Alison came back with some carefully worded response about the last time they’d faced Set. Haleigh was paying close attention. She didn’t fail to notice that Alison said killing Nicolas wasn’t the answer, a past tense judgement. She didn’t say killing Nicolas isn’t the answer. Dominique had an opinion about Delilah being here, and deemed Haleigh unfair and unkind.

“Oh no! Not unkind WORDS! How will she ever survive?!”

Haleigh exclaimed, theatrically laying her hand over her heart. Then she had to shake her head and swallow her frustration, as Dominique paid some lip service to Delilah in order to talk her into laying her life on the line.

“I don’t have to be a Seer to know if she’s not here, she won’t DIE.”

She said pointedly, but it was no use. Delilah agreed to stay. Haleigh sighed in resignation, realizing the only thing she could do was prepare herself to ensure Alexia would grow up safe, and at least know her mother died a hero, in case that might help the girl cope with her loss. Alison, after being completely obscure and offering nothing in the way of guidance other than tacitly accepting ‘the plan’, announced that she was going back to her study.

Haleigh shook her head. This was going to Hellfire all over again. Alison just liked to gut check people, and then hang them out to dry for the decisions they made in the dark, when SHE was the one with the power to shine light on the situation. She could’ve laid out the potential outcomes and given them all the possible information she could see to assist them in making their decision, but she just left them to grapple with the problem alone. Morgan had already gone to find Nic, and Isis dipped out to get the Birds. The only person still here was Delilah.

Delilah: "Did you ever think that maybe we would have rather fought with you than against you, even if it meant we lost?"

Haleigh leaned back on the sofa and looked over at Delilah.

“You want to know what I think about? I think about the times I seen you die, or Morgan die, or Cameron die. I think about how one of these days, it’s going to be permanent for each of you. And I think about what can be done to prevent that from being today’s outcome. It’s not that I don’t believe in my teammates, it’s that I don’t believe the cause is worth YOUR life anymore. It’s not about winning or losing, Delilah. It’s about surviving.”

Minerva's Mansion - Sitting Room

Delilah sat in the chair in the now mostly abandoned room at Minerva’s Mansion. She felt a pressure on her, like there were weights attached all over her body. She casually asked Haleigh if she had ever considered that maybe they'd rather fight with her than against her. She didn't know why she said it, maybe she was just too tired to not say the first thing that came to her mind. In Haleigh's little tirade earlier she had said a lot of things, none of which were all that surprising. "Hey you ungrateful assholes, I sacrificed myself for you all blah blah blah and this is the thanks I get blah blah blah No one told me it would end badly blah blah blah...." She'd heard it before.

Haleigh couldn't fathom that betrayal was worse than defeat. That it was demeaning for her to assume Haleigh had to be their savior. That instead of coming up with an alternative together, she acted on her own, not caring what anyone else on the team thought.

Just like her sister.

Delilah wasn't thinking of Ava.

Haleigh: “You want to know what I think about? I think about the times I seen you die, or Morgan die, or Cameron die. I think about how one of these days, it’s going to be permanent for each of you. And I think about what can be done to prevent that from being today’s outcome. It’s not that I don’t believe in my teammates, it’s that I don’t believe the cause is worth YOUR life anymore. It’s not about winning or losing, Delilah. It’s about surviving.”

She didn't have the energy to be angry as she replied, her voice matter-of-fact.

"We never asked you to save us, Haleigh. Do you think Cameron wants to be alive if you are dead or lost? Do you think we didn't know all this time what we were risking?"

Delilah stood up and stretched.

"If winning isn't worth dying for anymore, then why are you even still in the game?"

She headed for the door.

"I'm going to take advantage of that room Alison mentioned and take a nap. Who knows when we'll get another chance."

And she left Haleigh alone.

The Island of Aerie — Minerva’s Mansion

It was just Haleigh and Delilah left now, and to Haleigh’s mild surprise, Delilah didn’t immediately YEET herself from the room. Instead, she sat down, and calmly asked if Haleigh had ever thought maybe the others would’ve rather fought with her. If Haleigh really felt like fighting, she could’ve pointed out that they could have refused to let her go to Hellfire. Haleigh could have suggested that all Delilah had to do was rally the troops and lead them to that battle they wanted so badly that very night, or failing that she could’ve done as Ava had, and tried to join Hellfire to.

That would have been a hilarious disaster, and of course either of those attempts on Delilah’s part probably would’ve produced results worse than what had happened. So Haleigh elected NOT to point out that Delilah and the rest had effectively consented to Haleigh’s plan, despite not liking it. She didn’t want to fight anymore, and she didn’t want to make Delilah feel bad about letting Haleigh carry out her own admittedly shitty plan of joining Hellfire.

So instead of opening that can of worms, she admitted very honestly that for her it wasn’t about winning or losing some moral ground. What she feared was losing the people she cared about, and her motive every day was to prevent that from happening. Delilah replied that they hadn’t asked Haleigh to save them, like that might somehow convince her to stop trying to. Then she tried to leverage what Cameron would want, because she seemed to think that was going to move Haleigh on the issue. Haleigh’s mouth tightened, and she shook her head at that. Delilah asked if she thought they didn’t know what they were risking this whole time. Haleigh couldn’t understand why Delilah was so upset with her for not wanting them to risk their lives just so Haleigh could keep pretending to be a hero.

“Is this what it’s come down to for us, fighting over wanting to save each other?”

Delilah asked Haleigh why she was still in the game, if she didn’t think winning was worth dying for any more. Haleigh looked genuinely confused by the question. Wasn’t the answer obvious?

“Because you still are.”

Haleigh responded, and then she realized that if Delilah had even asked, maybe Haleigh hadn’t expressed herself clearly enough.

“You’re like a sister to me, Delilah. You may hate me, and you have every right to after what I did, but I still love you. And if you keep insisting on risking your life, then I don’t care if it frustrates you, you’re outta your fucking mind if you think I’m gonna let you do it without me. I’m going to watch your back whether you like it or not, I’m going to TRY to keep you —and all the rest of my sisters— ALIVE for as long as possible and not even my mother could change my mind about that.”

She added, and she completely ignored her mother next to her, who chimed in with We’ll See. Delilah mentioned taking advantage of the opportunity to get a nap. Haleigh nodded but didn’t follow suit. She was going to spend the last bit of free time reviewing all the sparring sessions she’d ever had with Nic, analyzing his strengths and weaknesses, and preparing herself mentally for the fight ahead. She was also going to look back in her archives for the first encounter with Set, in case anything useful could be gleaned.

Aerie

Nicolas smoothly swam back and forth in the pool, and didn’t bother to count the laps. The water felt nice, and did a better job of dissipating his body heat than air had. Mike had been in the pool for a while, but couldn’t be expected to match Nic’s stamina. Even after he had the pool all to himself, he took his time with a leisurely pace. The goal was not a workout, but to simply fill the time with anything other than waiting.

After a while he surfaced, to find Mike had left. Nicolas looked around to find that Morgan had arrived. For all the distance between them lately, he was happy to see her. He climbed out of the pool and pulled her in for a kiss, instantly reigniting the flame between them. Despite his resentment of her recent neglect, he still loved her, still wanted her. He set aside the negativity for now, and just enjoyed the way it felt to be with her again.

Morgan: "I was wondering if you'd be happy to see me...or was that pure carnal INSTINCT?"

“Can it not be both? You look as beautiful as I have ever seen.”

He replied with a mischievous smile, trying not to notice that she was pulling away all too quickly. He let go of her reluctantly. She told him that she’d spoken with Alison and Dominique, and that it was bad news.

“We will handle it, Morgan, just as before.”

He said, though he knew that they were both weaker than before, he without his telepathy and telekinesis, and her without her magick. He spread his arms, then indicated his new runes.

“As you can see, Dominique has bolstered my defenses.”

He added, but he could tell from her expression that it gave her no relief. He reached for his towel, beginning to dab his skin dry.

“I’m glad you’ve come. Do you know if Haleigh will be here?”

He asked. The last time around, Haleigh had refused to give up on him, even when everyone else had. She may have lost her way a bit lately, but he had faith that deep down, she was still the Haleigh he knew and loved. He would feel better if he knew she was working on this problem with them. No matter if everyone else got wrapped up in fear, Nicolas trusted Haleigh’s judgement.

Aerie - Minerva's Mansion

Rampage:
"Can it not be both? You look as beautiful as I have ever seen."

<< Every single word he spoke felt like a razor blade to one of her arms. A small but significant pain. She was however relieved to know, that despite all of her transgressions as of late, that she still loved him deeply. He was her champion, but listening to him speak, it felt like that was exactly their problem. She told him what she had heard from Alison but he remained unflappable. >>

Rampage: "We will handle it, Morgan, just as before. As you can see, Dominique has bolstered my defenses."

<< Her eyes traced his body intimately and with intent, noting all the runes that decorated his body, which only made her want him more. She took in his scent, which was normally intoxicating, and while it still was...there was something different. Morgan was different. And she couldn't justify all these concessions anymore. >>

Rampage: "I'm glad you've come. Do you know if Haleigh will be here?"

<< Morgan tried not to think of the Red Moon, but she would be a liar if she said it wasn't a frequent memory that popped up for her. She knew it was undue magickal influence that had led to Haleigh and Nicolas' encounter, but that didn't comfort her. And while she had made up so much ground with Haleigh recently, there was a part of her that would always be jealous. Morgan was not a guys guy. She never would be, and she never wanted to be. But Haleigh had some kind of thrall over most the men around her. They wanted to know her. They wanted to taste her, and Morgan always kind of secretly wanted that kind of allure. But she cast that out of her mind because it wasn't important. And because she knew what Nicolas meant. Haleigh had helped him when nobody else could, and he was looking for that kind of comfort now. She grabbed his hand once again, their fingers interlocking as she spoke. >>

"Can we not do it like this, NIc? I mean it...you don't always have to be so strong."

<< She kissed him once more, pulling away as she traced the bridge of his nose with her finger and gazed into his sweet dark eyes. >>

"Maybe...I made you feel like you had to be, but this is REAL. And it's not good. Alison has told us in no uncertain terms - Set will be unleashed. I don't have my magick...you don't have your telepathy. It wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world to be scared about it...I don't want you to say what you think I want to hear, Nicolas. I want you to be honest. I want you to tell me how you FEEL..."

"I LOVE you.."

<< weakly. >>

"I really love you...."

"I've been cheating on you.."

<< She kissed him again quickly before their eyes met, the tip of their noses rubbing against one another as she continued. >>

"But I can't live with the possibility of you dying and not feeling like I never really knew you. You are a demigod, but you're also human. So am I - something....I've only recently begun to come to terms with."

<< Morgan hated being this honest but she had to be, and in reality, she was barely being honest. >>

"I need to know you understand what's happening...and I need to know how you really FEEL."

<< pensively. >>

"Of course Haleigh will be here...but she has a very specific task...and that is to drive my soul sword through your heart if and when Malice takes hold of your body."

The Clocktower

Zach was concerned that Haleigh had hurt Ash. He wasn’t going to stand for that at all, but she waved her hand and explained that it wasn’t Haleigh exactly, but instead some demon that looked like her. Which, in Zach’s opinion, was still something that might need to be addressed, but now was not the time. She asked him how it had gone at the Parthenon, and Zach joked that he hadn't decapitated anyone, but it could’ve gone better. Ashley nodded as if she totally understood and then advised him to decapitate someone next time.

He smiled at her dark humor before moving on to enjoin the greater conversation about what was going on with Cameron. Zach agreed that it sounded exactly on-brand for Cameron King. Ashley commented that the Six absolutely needed their help, and Zach nodded at that before asking Ziz to pull up the dossiers on the big screen. Zizi agreed and started to do so, but could only ask Zach to narrate before they were interrupted by none other than Isis.

Isis: "Hello, birds. I've come to take you to Aerie. Set WILL be unleashed...and....I....would prefer to have you all by my side when that happens."

Ashley: "I don't give a flying fuck what you prefer - you got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands, lady."

Zach’s mouth tightened into a straight line, as he shifted on the sofa to lean towards Zizi, his hand resting gently on her arm. He gave her a look of understanding and support as he gently helped to settle her grief. After a bit, she answered that of course they would go to Aerie. Vivica suggested they at least hear Isis out. Zach wondered what had motivated Isis to ask for their help, after she’d played it so cool earlier.

Rae admonished them to get over themselves and do as ‘the woman born to defeat set’ said. Rae was quite obviously agitated so Zach was willing to overlook the outburst. Then, Dominique took the foot-in-mouth crown all for herself. She started out okay, acknowledging her mistake with Gabe, though weakly. Then she mentioned the damaged state of the Six, and talked about how the Birds were different. It was a very transparent attempt to butter them up, but it still might have worked, if it hadn’t been followed by the most patronizing suggestions he’d heard in a long time. It was worse, even, than all the things Delilah had said. Zach rubbed his beard with one hand, then folded his arms across his chest.

“Dominique, you say you’re willing to apologize without actually doing so. You have the audacity to suggest that we’re protected from the fallout, after Zizi’s boyfriend DIED. You left US hanging, but now that you need us, you come here and tell US to get over ourselves. No ma’am.

He shook his head, taking a deep breath. He was a nice guy, but there was only so much attitude he’d accept.

“We’re going to help, because we’ve BEEN trying to help, because that’s what WE do. But you are not going to continue to condescend to us another minute. We are well aware of what’s at stake, and how serious the situation is. You don’t have to pretend to be grateful, because everybody here is smart enough to see through insincere simpering. However, you will treat us with respect, we deserve that, at least. And you will apologize to Zizi, for letting her down when she needed you most.”

He said sternly, and it was obvious he would push as hard as he needed to secure his terms of agreement. Then he nodded, considering the matter settled.

“Now, as Ziz has said, we’ll come to Aerie with you. Let me just grab my gear.”

He finished, going to open a coat closet and grab a duffel bag.

Zizi chided her gently for her invective towards Isis, but Ashley didn't care. The woman didn't deserve their help. And what she DID deserve was a hell of a lot more than a piece of her mind.

Isis: "I do have a lot of nerve, Ashley. And it would serve you well to NEVER forget that."

"Oh fuck you."

Ashley waved her hand dismissively and turned her back to Isis.

Zizi: "Of course. Of course we will go to Aerie."

Ashley just stared at Zizi, who was speaking very quietly, but somehow everyone heard her. How could Zizi agree to help this bitch who acted better than them, like it was a chore to help them? Ashley crossed her arms over her chest.

"You're not seriously considering helping her."

Viv: "Let's at least hear what she has to say. But quickly, Dominique. And remember we owe you nothing."

"Damn right."

Rae: "Or everyone could get the fuck over themselves, and do as the woman BORN TO DEFEAT SET wants us to do! Now OUT with it, ISIS!"

Ashley fumed. Why hadn't they thrown Dominique and her bony ass out of the Clocktower as soon as she'd arrived? Why hadn't Zizi set the security system to incinerate her as soon as she stepped foot in here again? Yeah, they all wanted to make sure Malice stayed dead, but some things were asking too much.

Isis: "I hesitated with Gabriel."

Ashley scoffed.

"Understatement."

Isis: "He died because of me. I live with that everyday."

Ashley exploded, throwing her hands up in the air.

"You know who else lives with it? ZIZI!"

Isis: "This is what you are looking for, isn't it? The chance to be heroes. To succeed where The Six has failed? I can sense the energy in this room, and it is horrifically misguided. It is so easy to blame, and to speculate when you are so protected from the fallout. This is your chance to experience a taste. This is your chance to do what must be done, despite how poorly you will be received afterwards. That being said...."

She couldn't BELIEVE this woman. Acting like they didn't have a fucking REASON to blame her. Like they suffered NO loss. Ashley wanted to punch her in her fucking face.

Isis: "I need you.

Ashley shook her head.

"Sounds worth it to me."

Zach had been silent so far, but now he spoke up.

Zach: “Dominique, you say you’re willing to apologize without actually doing so. You have the audacity to suggest that we’re protected from the fallout, after Zizi’s boyfriend DIED. You left US hanging, but now that you need us, you come here and tell US to get over ourselves. No ma’am.

Ashley didn't think she could possibly love Zach more. And then he said that.

Go get 'er.

Zach: “We’re going to help, because we’ve BEEN trying to help, because that’s what WE do. But you are not going to continue to condescend to us another minute. We are well aware of what’s at stake, and how serious the situation is. You don’t have to pretend to be grateful, because everybody here is smart enough to see through insincere simpering. However, you will treat us with respect, we deserve that, at least. And you will apologize to Zizi, for letting her down when she needed you most. Now, as Ziz has said, we’ll come to Aerie with you. Let me just grab my gear.”

Zach got up and moved towards the closet.

"Make sure you take your battle armor!"

Damn, he looked good in that armor.

She sighed. They were apparently going to do this. She got up without even a glance at Isis and followed in the same direction as Zach, heading for her room.

"I've still got some weapons stashed under my bed."

She called back over her shoulder.

"Ziz, you still got those exploding tip arrows?"
