One-time Black Widow star Theresa Russell has become ensnared in Spidey's web. The actress has joined the cast of Spider-Man 3 for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Russell will play Mrs. Marko, the wife of Flint Marko, aka the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church). Plot details from Alvin Sargent's screenplay are scarce, though the trade says it is known that the villainous couple has a daughter.

Sam Raimi is directing the movie, and he co-wrote the story with his brother, Ivan Raimi. Shooting started this month for a May 4, 2007 release.

WOW! Teresa Russell is one of my favorite "guilty pleasures" actresses! I saw her in a movie years ago (that i still dont know the name of) and she was the epitome of BITCH GODDESS in that movie. I saw her again in Wild Things and her character "Sandra Van Ryan" was an uber bitch who had that town under her thumb. She still looks good too!

Itll be nice to see her in action again after a so many years.

Sounds good, and to cast such a great actress is going to help promote the movie further. I think Spiderman is probably one of the better "super hero" movies out there. I'm looking forward to this third installment and Sam is a great writer, he wrote and directed plenty of Xena: the warrior princess episodes. :raspberry

Bryce Dallas Howard of The Village fame has just signed on to be Gwen Stacy. She's an excellent actress, and quite fetching. Though it begs the question:

Why is a natural redhead playing Gwen and a natural blonde playing Mary Jane? <arches eyebrow>
