VIOLA DAVIS REPORTEDLY NEARS AMANDA WALLER ROLE IN "SUICIDE SQUAD" AND BEYOND

Viola Davis is close to a multi-picture deal to play long-running DC Comics character Amanda Waller, as reported Friday by The Wrap, citing multiple sources "familiar with the project." This follows a previous report from last month stating that the "How to Get Away with Murder" star was Warner Bros.' pick for the role.

Davis would debut as Waller in 2016's "Suicide Squad" film, with more appearances in the DC movie universe to follow. Davis has been attached to "Suicide Squad" since the main cast was announced in early December, with a report stating she was among the top three choices for the Amanda Waller role, along with Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey. Waller is a key component of most every modern incarnation of the Suicide Squad, as the government agent overseeing the team of villains-turned-mercenaries.

While promoting the soon-to-be-released film "Blackhat," Davis addressed the prospect of playing Amanda Waller in an article published Wednesday by Nerd Report, giving a strong indication she was on board: "I'm working out my schedule for 'Suicide Squad.'"

"I'm fascinated by her," Davis told Nerd Report of Waller. "I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology."

As had been previously raised, Davis' shooting schedule for "How to Get Away with Murder" -- one of the hits of the 2014-2015 network TV debuts -- makes committing to "Suicide Squad" tricky, but The Wrap reports the deal is expected to be official in the coming weeks. The movie already has an all-star cast, with Will Smith (Deadshot), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Tom Hardy (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) all official in primary roles.

Directed by David Ayer, the "Suicide Squad" film -- part of the shared continuity between DC Comics-based films that started with "Man of Steel" and continues with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" -- is expected for release on Aug. 5, 2016.

She would be perfect for this role (though I am partial to Pam Grier's version :D). ANYONE would be better than Cynthia Addai-Robinson (who plays her on Arrow). She was terrible on Spartacus and she's terrible on Arrow.

I'm sort of getting afraid that this Suicide Squad movie has too many stars in it to be good in the end...
 
Cynthia Addai-Robinson was fantastic on Sparatcus and the best as Naevia and Amanda Waller. In a few years she will be one of the best actresses in Hollywood.
 
They didn't keep her for the last series because she is not of particular interest for the "Starz". This powerful company is most likely, could satisfy her demands for higher pay. But the company chose to terminate the contract. Lesley Ann Brandt performance is superficial. In common scenes with Manu, he did most of the work. She didn’t think out the details of role. For example, she kissed and had sex like not recent virgin but like the more experienced woman. Also, she was too old for this role. In general, it was not an independent character but background for Crixus only. I did not like her Naevia from the first frame. I looked at Leslie in the series "Librarians" and another series (I do not know the name). Her performance was unnatural.

Cynthia is an actress with great potential. She showed a good level of performance in such scenes as Roman soldiers chase (oh, that expression of her eyes), attempt of suicide with a knife in her hand, trying to rape her, the execution of Ashur, killing the friend of Gannicus, Crixus decapitation, return to the rebel camp, talking with Cora, fight with Tiberius. Cynthia showed us the full range of feelings - fear, despair, courage, ferocity, tenderness, madness.

After playing of Naevia, Cynthia does not leave the sets. She has no problems with casting. Directors like Cynthia Addai-Robinson. Wonderful small role seductive and insidious Inspector Jasper in the TV series "Dallas", almost the only female role among the men in the mini-series "Texas Rising", ordinary fiscal officer in "Accountant" movie, where the main role is played by Oscar winner Ben Affleck, etc.

Finally, Manu himself delicately hints at ComicCons that prefer her as Naevia and angry even when somebody doubts her is the perfect Amanda Waller.

I'm sorry to have written so much, but I defended favorite actress.
