Ororo's ghost story, part 3

Haleigh pushed the 4X4 to its limits and beyond.... they made it to the church safely, but only just in the nick of time. The fog was closing in. Haleigh didn't have the time or the inclination to use the designated parking area.... she plowed through the fence without so much as a second thought. Morgan, Ava, and Blaze were near the church doors. Mayor Victoria, her assistant, and the police chief were nearly there. Haleigh approached them at a high rate of speed then flung the Jeep around so that Nicolas and Kyle were on the side nearest to the church and Haleigh was nearest the fog, placing the truck between the group and the fog.... Haleigh manifested a grenade launcher as the hard top on the Jeep retracted so that Nic and Kyle could exit more quickly.

"Run for the church, I'll provide cover!"

She said, getting out of the driver side and shooting off a few grenades. Explosions tore up the church grounds and evaporated into the fog. Haleigh checked to make sure every was in before entering the church. She reinforced the large double doors with stainless steel... giving the appearance that they were in a vault.

"Everyone alright?"

the gothic church

<< as Karen went flying back with a start while Delilah engaged in some serious "evasive maneuvers", Mike caught the mayor in his arms, using his own buff body to brace the mayor's feminine form.>>

Mike said:
I got you. I'll always have you as long as you'll have me. I simply wish you weren't ashamed of me.

<< Karen had a look of astonishment on her face. She was a bit dismayed that she was flying about in the backseat of the car, landing onto Mike with her legs slightly "up in the air". she scrambled to get herself in order as Mike held her.>>

....Michael

<< she said slightly winded.>>

I'm not "ashamed" of you. Not by a longshot! how could you think such a thing?

<< she thought of what Delilah had said to her during the ceremony. Delilah appreciated Karen's strict code of poise and presentation when in public but Mike was not AT ALL a bad guy for her to be seen/associated with. He was the CHIEF OF POLICE, not some silly "cabanna boy".>>

When this is all over, if we survive....you'll see.

<< she placed her hand over his as he held her while Delilah tore like hell down the road, up the driving path to the church.>>

excellent work, Delilah! maybe you should be a cop instead of my assistant!

<< Karen said with a bit of excitment. the ride was THRILLING in an odd sort of way. >>

Look! There's Morgan and Ava...and they rescued Blaze!

<< Delilah screeches to a halt as Karen scrambles out of the back seat, Mike giving her a helping hand as she does so. She rushes toward her daughter, running in her dress and high heels.>>

Morgan! Ava! Blaze! thank the goddess you're all here!

Morgan said:
MOM! you're okay!

Yes, thanks to Delilah! she drove like i've never seen!

The fog...it cut us off!

Morgan said:
I know! it's coming! we have to get inside!

<< just then Haleigh arrived with Nicolas and Kyle.>>

Haleigh said:
"Everyone Allight?"

just barely! the fog cut us off! it's everywhere!

Nicolas! you have Haleigh and Sharon's son Kyle...but where is Sharon?

Haleigh said:
"Run for the church, I'll provide cover!"

<< and with that, everyone makes the move inside the doors through a hall and into the dark sanctuary.>>

Alison?? ALISON?

:: everyone came barging in.::

sure...come right in!

:: Alison says, with a cold but a bit of a slurred tone as she leaned against a pew, gulping down more hemlock from the bottle directly.::

Karen: Alison, is there a basement or a cellar that we can go to?

it won't do you any good. you can't hide from it....THEM! not even here...not for long.

:: she said with an utter lack of care. and she should know. she was the precog!::

:: as Haleigh sealed the double doors of the church behind them, Alison held out her hand and "stopped" Haleigh dead in her tracks with her telekinetic power::

DO YOU MIND, LINDA HAMILTON? this church is a ...historical LAND MARK! you can't just COME IN HERE and redecorate!

Karen: Alison PLEASE, there's no TIME for this! the fog is coming! we've got to get under cover!

Alison: fine...run and hide. its not going to change anything!

:: half heartedly gesturing to the old, stone walled conference room down the hall. ::

:: After Ava, Morgan, and Blaze all arrived at the church, everyone else seemed to come immediately after. Haleigh was also there, but everyone's bitterness and pettiness took a backseat to the looming threat of the fog. She asked if everyone was okay and Ava silently nodded to herself. Ava hadn't noticed a drunken Alison sitting in a pew nearby until Karen asked if there was a basement to hide in. Turning to look at Alison, she looked like a mess....nothing like the woman she used to be. All jokes aside, it was actually pretty pathetic and sad. ::

you can't hide from it....THEM! not even here...not for long.

"Thank you for your optimism Susie Sunshine, we REALLY needed to hear that now."

:: Grumbling under her breath, Alison finally gestured to a doorway leading to a conference room, but not before issuing another doom and gloom warning. Rolling her eyes, everyone proceeded to make their way down the main aile of the church heading in the direction Alison pointed them to. Mumbling to Blaze and Morgan [who flanked her] under her breath. ::

"Maybe Alison will buy us some time..."

:: Half sarcastic yet half serious at the notion of the fog attacking Alison first and allowing everyone else to try to form some sort of plan, Ava shrugged. Hey, a girl can hope can't she? :D ::

Nicolas rode with Haleigh as the slid through the fence and into the courtyard of the church. Haleigh manifested a grnade launcher and shot into the approaching fog as he lifted Kyle out of his seat and carried him, husting into the church itself.

As they arrived on the scene and hustled in, he asked everyone as he looked at them all, lingering a moment on Morgan as he spoke, answering Karen's question about Sharon.

Sharon is holding the lighthouse. The fog cut us off from her and she would not wish us to risk Kyle. It's good to see you...all of you. Everyone good?

He knew Alison was there before she even spoke, a shielded entity occupying an inebriated form. He turned as she made a dire prediction, and as she froze Haleigh, he looked at his new friend, UNFREEZING her and returning to look at Alison again as she motioned for their escape route. He started to go, then stopped as Ava spoke.

"Maybe Alison will buy us some time..."

Not by herself she won't. Kyle, go with Haleigh and Mayor Victoria. I will be there soon.

Nicolas turned back on his heels, moveing back to face Alison. he looked at the bottle of hemlock and the bottle resealed, then teleported to the other end of the pew she occupied.

Alison...I know you miss Cameron and I know that there may be little hope in your mind, your heart, but you've got to snap out of it!!! Cameron was no quitter, and neither are you. If you are determined to face them here, at least face them with me, stand and fight. I know that the power you wield is enormous, and even if it is not enough, let us both at least TRY to redeem Cameron and Alycia...ALL of them...TOGETHER.

Nicolas turned to face the door. He reached out to the metal shield that Haleigh had placed there. As he focused, an enormous shape peeled away from the door itself, spinning and forming as it came to his hand. It was an axe, made of the pure cold steel that Haleigh had manifested. He had often read of the power of certain metals, silver and cold steel being two of them. Perhaps they would be of help tonight.

Mike caught Karen easily as her legs flew up. He smiled as he got a good look up her dress. Although he had seen her nude many times, Mike still never passed up a chance to "objectify" the good mayor a bit. She would never admit it, but she liked the admiration he lavished upon her.

....Michael

<< she said slightly winded.>>

I'm not "ashamed" of you. Not by a longshot! how could you think such a thing?

Mike blinked back at her. His response was flat, warm even, but the words were how he felt.

How could I NOT think such a thing?

He was a former Navy Seal, a high-ranking officer with the Naval Reserve (which is why he got such excellent responses for paramilitary and military assistance), a Chief of Police that served with distinction and was recognized by his peers, having turned down several jobs for more money to work elsewhere, including as a military consultant. He was not vain about who he was and he knew that he had no powers, but he was not chopped liver either, and he knew Christopher was similarly powerless. So to him, Karen simply was not confident enough in the relationship to acknowledge it publicly. This realization was not new, but he simply put it on the back burner, enjoying how she spoiled him privately in and out of the bedroom, and ignoring the whispers around town as to why he never dated (or even simply screwed) any of the pretty and available women who "called" for him. But tonight a dam burst, and he realized that this arrangement may not be enough. As he thought, Karen gently took his hand.

When this is all over, if we survive....you'll see.

Mike said nothing, he simply held her, his top hand being held by hers as his bottom arm supported her, his hand gently squeezing her bottom.

The tenderness of the moment was nearly interrupted as Mike also noted Delilah's driving. Karen's suggestion was not lost on him, and he made a metal note to make an offer to Delilah...if they survived.

They exited the car, Mike gently but quickly assisting Karen as she exited, then rushed to her daughter and their friends. Mike walked over as well, to Ava and Blaze since Karen was checking on Morgan.

You two OK? Good to see you.

Mike walked inside with the others, noting Sharon's absence from the group. he sent up a silent prayer for her as he knew she'd stayed in the lighthouse.

As Alison revealed herself, Mike watched her, noting her beauty but taken aback by her drunkenness. He nodded as she indicated the hallway even as she predicted doom for them. He ushered the ladies down the hall quickly but, as Nicolas turned back, he turned quickly, kissing Karen on the mouth.

I can't let him go back alone. It is my duty. Ms. Davidoff, could a man get a few extra long clips, .50 cal, for a pair of Desert Eagles and a M16A3 with ammo? Thanks.

The request displayed an intimate knowledge of Haleigh's abilities, one that she would not had guessed he had. With that little nugget, Mike quickly hustled to follow Nicolas out to the main area, his weapons drawn...

the old church

Following Morgan and Ava inside the gothic church, Blaze took the opportunity to catch her breath. With a hand on her heart she would gasp for air. "I really should cut back on the carbs!" The others would arrive safely with the exception of Sharon. Haleigh inquired if they were alright while Ava nodded to her.

"Yeah."

Despite having had a gun pulled on her by Haleigh, Blaze managed to let it go. They had larger problems to worry about. As Karen inquired about a basement Alison's slurred words echoed in the vintage church. Blaze stared at the brunette looking over her disheveled appearance. She really had fallen off the band wagon.

Following down the path instructed while Ava cracked a joke about Alison giving them time.

"Ava!"

Blaze protested as she shook her head before smirking.

Mike would approach the both of them inquiring if they were okay.

"I swear if someone asks that ONE more time I'm gonna deck 'em!"

Blaze had heard that question all through the night now and clearly it was getting old for her. As she walked behind Ava with Morgan as they walked down the lengthy hallway.

"Does anyone have a plan besides getting drunk off our ass?"

:: Smiling coyly Ava shrugged her one shoulder up as she gave Blaze an 'innocent' look. ::

"What? It was just a thought."

:: Grinning, they were soon inturrupted by Mike asking if they were okay. Ava shook her head and waved him away as he passed by heading back to Nicolas who was now with Alison. With a roll of her eyes, Blaze inquired about anyone having a plan. ::

"Does anyone have a plan besides getting drunk off our ass?"

"Oh, I don't know, that sounds like a pretty stellar plan to me."

:: Another off the cuff joke by the brunette, now that their pending doom had sunk in, Ava was less frightened and more 'lets get this over with'. ::

"Getting a little drunk could numb the pain of being sucked into oblivion by the fog people."

:: Ava pondered about Cameron for a moment. ::

"Huh....I wonder if there are beds in the afterlife...." :p

LOL!!! good post!

<< HALEIGH! that bleached blonde, trigger happy hooker from hell! why couldnt the fog have killed HER? oh well...now was not the time. the woman asked if they were okay and Morgan silently nodded, placing her own hatred of the woman to the side for the time being.>>

<< Morgan was too busy trying to get a grip on herself as everyone hurried into the church. Ever mindfull of her physical beauty she took a moment to do one of her reflexive primps in an ornamental mirror as Ava quipped about Alison only to be rebuked by Blaze.>>

hmm. hardly a hair out of place!

<< but she was suddenly aware of how much her feet were KILLING HER after having ran, ducked, and otherwise dodged death at the hands of a vengefull fog....all the while wearing gucci stillettos.>>

<< Morgan wasnt sure what to say about her distant friend Alison. The woman was beautifull, powerfull...but so lost in her own self now. In a way, Morgan could relate, being a witch even in these modern times wasnt the easiest thing in the world but Alison had a way of being that even gave Morgan pause.>>

<< the cobalt blue eyed precog halted Haleigh in her tracks and dismissed them all to doom which made Morgan feel more nauseated than before. they were soon moving together down the dark corridor toward the ancient, stone walled conference room. Blaze and Ava offered their analysis of the situation.>>

Well... I dont know what we can do. those figures that we saw in the fog...they looked like something that escaped from Pirates of the Carribean's prop closet and they shrugged off my eldritch bolts and Ava's lightning bolts like they were MINOR inconeniences! Can you imagine that!? as IF someone...someTHING that looked like one of HALEIGH'S relatives [ :D ] could have THAT kind of power?

<< they arrive into the old conference room, the same room where Alison had first revealed the journal to Karen and Delilah. The same room where Alison's great grandfather and his clergy men had plotted the deaths of James Marcus and the other G Virus infected many moons ago.>>

So now we have to hide in here...waiting to die.

<< Ava asked if they had beds in heave...to which Morgan replied with a smirk.>>

Who say's YOU'RE going to heaven dear? I imagine where YOU'RE going...you'll be looking for a fire extinguisher before a BED!

<< even in moments of peril, Morgan and Ava continued to make their remarks as they were known for.>>

Well...we're in here. Nicolas, once again is playing the hero and Mike is probably going to be the first to get OFFED, so i guess now's as good a time as any...for a hair and make up check!

<< immediately pulling out her compact from her clutch, Morgan primped yet again!>>

"Afterlife. Afffterliffee. I said nothing about heaven. Plus...I don't think I could deal with the prospect of being in heaven. Too much white."

:: Shuddering at the thought of wearing a white robe, it was known fact that Ava perfered black, all the time. Some may think it was morbid or 'gothic' looking, but she made it chic and sexy in a way she only could. Sighing, Ava sat down in a chair and crossed her legs. ::

Nicolas, once again is playing the hero..

:: With a disgusted groan, Ava rolled her eyes agreeing with Morgan's statement. ::

..and Mike is probably going to be the first to get OFFED

:: Coughing out a laugh. ::

"One can only hope."

:: Again, Ava pondered. ::

"Maybe if we give the fog people Mike in good faith, they won't kill us!"

:: Pausing, she then realized they would probably want everyone to suffer even more after realizing what an obnoxious doof Mike was. ::

"Then again....maybe not.."

the gothic church

<< Karen took Kyle's hand, bending down to reassure him that everything would be fine and that she'd keep watch over him. the Mayor ignored the catty chatter of Blaze, Morgan and Ava as Mike ushered them all through the sanctuary, down another hall and into the meeting room.>>

<< Morgan and Ava continued on as Karen sat Kyle in a chair and told him to stay put.>>

<< as she moved across the room, around the large old oak table toward Morgan and Ava, she heard them both talking about Mike getting it.>>

Do you two EVER listen to yourselves? We have a child in our midst. Exercise SOME kind of restraint and responsibility and CLOSE YOUR MOUTHS!

<< she spoke with clear stern clarity as she ordered them to keep silent. the situation was dire and Karen was used to taking control>>

<< turning away for a moment, she looked up to the old barrlevaulted ceiling as she ran her hands through her hair.>>

This is unacceptable. Nicolas and Mike cannot be allowed to remain out there...neither can Alison.

<< the shadows of the fog could be seen from the closed stained glass windows around the room.>>

We need to find a way to..break this curse or address it!

If only we could find that journal!

<< she looked around, noticing that the room was hardly furnished, save for the large oak table and its uncomfortable chairs. there was a large explosive hole in the wall above the fire place...which Karen stood on tip toe to peer into.>>

Alison stalled her, but she was released shortly after being called Linda Hamilton and being chastised for 'redecorating'.

"Oh, are my survival tactics upsetting your feng shui? Well... that's just too damn bad."

Nicolas took the hemlock from Alison but only moved it down the pew... he tried to talk her into making a stand, and then he and Mike did the man thing and stayed behind while they told the women folk to run off and hide. Haleigh rolled her eyes. Mike requested some ammunition. Haleigh put her hands on her hips. She wasn't a winchester vending machine!

"No, but I'll be glad to tell you where a man can shove his pair of desert eagles, while he's busy treating me like a walking armament."

Most of the rest hurried down the hall. Mike and Nicolas made their stand, Alison began easing her way down the pew towards the bottle of hemlock. Haleigh snatched the bottle up as Alison reached for it and then slammed it down on the floor, shattering it and splattering its contents at her feet.

"Oh.... how clumsy of me. I guess you'll have to sober up now. It's just as well... you may want to have your wits about you. Looks like you'll have to muster up some real strength.... and stop relying on the liquid kind. Now.... My patience is running quite thin. I'll allow you a choice: you can walk your drunk ass into the conference room of your own free will... or I can drag you in there by your ankles. [after a beat] Take a minute, think it over."

She glanced up at Nicolas and Mike. They weren't staying behind either.

"GENTLEMEN! [waiting for their attention] I don't have time for heroics. The others are WAITING down the hall. We are ALL going to join them and we are ALL going to discuss how we will deal with the fog. So let's GO.... so we can get a plan of action together. DON'T argue with me, we're WASTING TIME as it is."

:: Raising her eyebrows as Karen yelled at both Morgan and Ava like children, the goddess sat back in her chair and began to twirl her hair around her fingers casually. ::

"Well excuuuse me. Atleast i'm trying to think of ways to save our collective asses."

:: Ava respected Karen so she didn't lip off too much. Glancing over at Kyle who sat on the floor, Ava gave him a small smile as Karen inquired about where the journal could be. ::

"Considering Alison is crocked half the time, I would expect it would be in a place she could remember putting it. Try the bookshelf or desk. [gesturing with her finger over to a large oil painting] Or maybe she has a hidden safe behind that painting?"

"No, but I'll be glad to tell you where a man can shove his pair of desert eagles, while he's busy treating me like a walking armament."

Oh my God, and I HOPED you were beyond childish posturing in times of crisis. Forgive me for attempting to use your powers to my advantage when the situation is life and death and I believed us on the same side. The time for you to be unhelpful was YESTERDAY, not tonight. And for the record, per your own powers you ARE a walking armament. Nic?

Mike showed is ability to be equally smart-mouthed, his retort actually half-laughing as Nicolas teleported from the armory the requested items, which Mike quickly checked and donned.

Mike: No argument here for that plan, except for the fact that half of the people you refer to are wholly unprepared to fight...

NICOLAS: Mike!! Haleigh!! {getting their attention}Look, I was perfectly fine with all of us heading back, but Alison...is not one to be MADE to move. Alison, let's go. We can do this, but we need you as well. Come with us to the other room.

Delilah leapt from the car and moved inside with the others. As they encountered Alison in her drunken state, Delilah couldn’t help but shake her head in exasperation. Of all the times to be three sheets to the wind…and still as unhelpful as ever. Couldn’t she see the bigger picture, especially being the SEER she was?! Delilah threw up her hands and moved towards the conference room as Nicolas tried to talk to her, in all her stubbornness.

Delilah crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. Morgan and Ava were acting bratty, trading sarcasm and primping for any productive pursuits. She was about to suggest that they focus on the task at hand when Karen reprimanded the two girls for their behavior. Poor Kyle stood there, scared and worried about his mother. She tried to use her power to make him feel reassured, but in times like this there was little she could do for him but help keep him safe.

Persephone said:
"Well excuuuse me. Atleast i'm trying to think of ways to save our collective asses."

[Under her breath.] “Could’ve fooled me, Princess Throw Them to the Lions.”

She looked around her with the others, searching for the journal’s hiding place. Ava made some suggestions, but Delilah shook her head.

“Alison – despite her current state and general nasty disposition – is smarter than that. She wouldn’t have hidden it anywhere obvious.”

the gothic church

:: Alison tilted her head back and put her hand on her forehead, ignoring Ava completely and listening as Nicolas "valiantly" choose to stay behind and try to convince her. he moved the hemlock away first.::

Nicolas? don't think that just because I'm drunk...that I can't still run circles around you with my power. you may be telekinetic, but i'm a WITCH.

:: as she was about to teleblink the bottle BACK into her grasp, Haleigh once again meddled and threw the bottle to the floor smashing it.::

HOW DARE YOU!

Haleigh said:
"Oh.... how clumsy of me. I guess you'll have to sober up now. It's just as well... you may want to have your wits about you. Oh take your bravado and stick it up your ass... you renegade bimbo from a science lab! I'll MURDER you in this "holy place" and let your blood serve as a "peace offering" to the spirits that seek the revenge now!

:: she exhaled with annoyance as she was about to stand up and send Haleigh flying across the sanctuary, channeling her power through her EYES ala' Prue Halliwell when Haleigh and Mike began to go back and forth a bit and Nicolas continued to appeal to her sense of reason. as ANNOYING AS IT WAS that he was in her face. He did make some kind of sense. Truthfully, Alison didnt care what happened...to ANYONE at this point, but if they didnt do something NOW, the curse would ravage this town unchecked. the spirits of the undead overtaking the living and did she really want to dishonor her baby brother this way?::

FINE!

:: she said as she smacks Nicolas' hand away from her.::

I can walk just FINE thank you!

:: stumbling a bit in her high heeled boots as she pushed past him into the center aisle. :D she had the journal that Karen was looking for in her grasp. and as Alison strode down the hall with Nicolas, Haleigh and Mike close behind....she burst into the room. ::

Nicolas ignored her threat concerning TK. He did not know WHY she had such a rivalry with him. Their powers actually overlapped a lot less than it would seem, and considering his personal strength was far greater, she needed all the TK help she could get.:heee:

FINE!

:: she said as she smacks Nicolas' hand away from her.::

I can walk just FINE thank you!

As she stumbled, Nicolas laughed audibly, something Cameron and he did all the time...at times at her expense as Cameron tormented his sister like brothers do.

I see you can. Try not to bust your ass, OK Alison?

Nicolas walked back with Alison as she brought the book to the table...

LMAO @ the "Try not to bust your ass." remark
inside the conference room

<< Karen knelt down next to Kyle.>>

you're a very brave boy.

<< holding his hands.>>

And we're going to make sure you stay safe until you see your mommy again okay?

Kyle: Yes, Ms. Victoria....but mommy is alone...in the lighthouse.

Karen: can you see her now? is she alright? can you use your special gift to show us that she's okay and to connect with her?

Kyle: I can try....

Karen: Alright baby. You try your best. I'll be right here with you.

<< she spoke warm and softly as she continued to kneel down in front of him, smiling as she squeezed his hands gently for encouragement before standing up and turning around to see Alison barge into the room and slam the journal down on the table. Nicolas, Mike and Haleigh arrive.>>

Shut the door!

<< she looks at Nicolas and Mike.>>

Well...

<< her tone dripping with sarcasm.>>

Nice to see the lone ranger and his trusty side kick have come to their senses and returned to the conference room!

and the journal!

<< she says as she points to it.>>

Delilah, will you bring it here please?

<< not wanting to leave Kyle unattended.>>

now....let's see.

<< hurriedly flipping through the old pages...>>

Ah...here! this is the last entry after the one about the murder!

Father Marble said:
...Were it possible to right this terrible wrong that we committed, I would return James Marcus' gold to him of which the remainder was melted down into a golden cross!

He kept it a secret...but he expressed REMORSE! that is the first step! We know what has happened...we can can complete the process!

Alison, do you know where the golden cross is? the remainder of the original gold from James Marcus that your great grandfather and his clergymen confiscated?

conference room

Blaze tried her hardest not to erupt in a fit of giggles. Even under such a dangerous circumstance Morgan and Ava continued to quip jokes. Biting on her bottom lip she tried to remain serious but it was amusing just how catty both women could be.

Karen and Delilah's scolding remarks caused Blaze to erupt in laughter further. As the group looked her way she cleared her throat with a shrug. It couldn't exactly be helped, it was funny!

Haleigh, Mike, Nicolas, and Alison barged into the conference room. Blaze had noted Alison was lacking in the alcohol department. Drawing her eyes away while Karen comforted little Kyle. Walking over to the little boy, Blaze placed both of her hands onto his shoulders as she crouched down beside him.

"Karen's right, sweetie. You're doing great!"

Offering him a tender hug for emphasis while Karen flipped through the old journal.

Delilah picked up the journal gently from the table and handed it to Karen as she had asked. She looked around the room as Karen flipped through its pages. They were all together now, this strange assortment of personalities. But would they be enough?

Karen read them the passage from the journal which mentioned the cross.

“What are we going to do, throw the cross into the fog and hope the ghosts get it?”

She was more than a little skeptical about the cross being the answer. But she had to admit that at this point, she was out of ideas – even bad ones.
