Ororo's ghost story, part 3

:: Everything had gone smoothly so far. Karen had just finished her speech when Morgan leaned over saying that something didn't feel right. Glancing off into the distance as Morgan recieved a call from Blaze, suddenly her friend bellowed that something was wrong. Quickly looking Morgan's way the brunette stood just as her friend did and they both began to b-line it toward the stage where Karen and Delilah were. ::

"It's that damn fog isn't it?!"

:: They finally reached Karen and Delilah whom were both waiting on Mike. Morgan quickly stated she was heading back to the tavern to get Blaze. Ava hesitated hearing Nicolas' warning that they needed to stay together. Morgan began to run to her jag as Ava 'snapped out' of her telepathic daze just in time to see Morgan jump into the car. Quickly looking back at Karen and Delilah, Ava looked at them with stern eyes. ::

"Stay safe!"

:: And with that, she started to run toward the car and hoped in just as Morgan pulled out fast and disappeared from the parking lot heading toward the tavern. ::

[telepathically to Nicolas] "We're heading back to the tavern to get Blaze. Don't worry, we're together and so are Karen, Delilah, and Mike. [pausing] Be careful Nicolas..."

:: Morgan's need for speed definitely came in handy tonight as the woman sped through the town heading to Donder & Blitzens. Ava's heart suddenly caught in her throat as she saw what was SUPPOSED to be the tavern ahead....but it was completely surrounded by fog. ::

[pointing] "Oh my God....the tavern is completely engulfed!"

the Arklay Lighthouse

[Sharon was going out of her mind with grief! she didnt know if Kyle was dead or alive...but inside of herself, something small spoke to her, an inner voice that assured her that Kyle wasnt dead. She had to carry on. She had to help ensure that everyone stayed alive. wiping tears away from her eyes, she returned to her seat...and opened a channel. ]

on the Air: Kyle....I don't know if you can here me...I'm sorry I couldn't come for you. But I have to stay here! Where ever you are, my darling son, please know, that I love you very much and I WILL see you soon.

[ the light continued to spin, flashing through her studio atop the light house as she looked around and saw the town was completely dark. the light from the light house continued to flash as it spun, each flash seemed to bring Sharon closer to composure as she ran her hands through her blonde hair and cleared her throat. She looked at her radar.]

on the air: the fog is moving inland, it is thick, all encompassing! It's coming in from the southwest!

[broadcasting on all frequencies, to anyone who was listening...Sharon was now becoming a beacon in more ways than one.]

if you see the fog, avoid it! go the opposite direction!

if you are south, go NORTH. Stay AWAY from the fog! Bring your pets inside! Lock your doors...close your windows!

[ residents all through the town began to do as she said, as did the police who had ushered everyone in the town square into designated shelters.]

There's something in the FOG!

[ she began to give moment my moment updates of the fog's direction and coverage.]

Donder & Blitzen

<< Ava drove like a bat out of hell, relying on her memory to compensate for blowing through stop signs and interactions where traffic lights were down. through the winding "side roads", she made her way.>>

This fog...its AWFULL! Mike said something about Carl being dead...the weather guy. If the fog got to him...then that means whatever is in it....

<< they zoomed towards D&B.>>

Goddess..please let us get there in TIME!

<< the spot where the tavern should have been. Ava points.>>

Ava said:
"Oh my God....the tavern is completely engulfed!"

Blaze!!

<< screeching to a halt, Morgan rushes out of the car, not worrying or caring about the fog all around her. but the fog is so thick it makes even BREATHING a little more LABORED!>>

<< coughing.>>

Ava...the Tavern is right up ahead....

BLAZE!

<< running towards it in her high heels, she doesnt see the apparitions that are around the door.>>

D & B

Nibbling on her bottom lip while she conversed with Morgan while Sharon’s frantic pleads would be broadcast live across the radio. Her heart stopped at the thought of Kyle being in danger. Yet, she couldn’t think like that.

Blaze, regroup with your sister. Have her retrieve you. We have to go to Kyle.

Nicolas’ voice would echo in her mind while she rolled her eyes defensively. She bit back a catty remark and instead took his advice for what it was, genuine concern for her well being and Kyle’s.

Reaching for the television remote, Blaze flipped on the weather station to see news reports of a dense fog moving in and overhearing Sharon's reports. Saying there was something IN the fog?! Remaining calm, Blaze turned towards the others in the room.

“Everyone, this is an emergency situation. Please move downstairs in the basement. Do NOT go near any windows or doors, not without my signal.”

Each of the patrons would get up and file in an orderly fashion while Morgan advised she and Ava were on her way.

“Hurry Morgan....I love you.”

Closing her cell phone, Morgan turned to walk the perimeter of the building to lock all doors and windows immediately. She was all alone on the floor while the others were locked inside the basement.

Peering out the window she could see the fog enveloping the whole tavern. Then came that eerie knocking at the door. Having turned on every light in the tavern, Blaze also shivered as the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped. She even noticed her own breath in the air and a bit of frost bellowing across the window.

“Oh, no you don’t!”

Hurling her hands out in a few directions as bolt after bolt of fire would frame around the various doors and windows in an effort to light the area as well form as a fire barrier. As the knocking came harder, Blaze’s heart would slam against her chest. She bravely would await what was behind that door and for Morgan and Ava.

Morgan's blinding headlights to her car went unnoticed by Blaze as the dense fog outside would begin to surround the duo. But she did hear the screeching halt of tires! Not daring to go near the window, Blaze hoped that Morgan and Ava were right outside that door.

"Morgan, no!"

:: Yelling for Morgan as she jumped out of the car and into the thick fog, Sharon's voice could be heard playing from the car radio instructing everyone to stay away from it. Opening the car door, Ava climbed out watching Morgan disappear into the thick white cloud. ::

Ava...the Tavern is right up ahead....

"Morgan just wait!"

:: Running to where she heard her friends voice, suddenly a cold 'figure' blew past her causing Ava to gasp and turn to look over her shoulder. It felt like someone had walked past her....the air was cold and dense. With labored breaths of fear there was nothing there but an abyss of white. ::

"Morgan...."

:: Turning back toward the direction she was heading, Ava slowly began to walk, now compltely unaware of where she was. The fog was so thick the brunette couldn't see her hand outstretched in front of her. ::

"Talk to me! I can't find you!"

the fog makes the scene

<< the figures were hammering at the door...it was giving way and even as Blaze's fire barrier gave them pause, it didnt not stop them for long.>>

<< soon they were smashing there way through the doorway...some of their tattered close now flickering from flames but the water they were drenched in put out the flames as they came in, slowly but methodically, brandshing scythes and other instruments of death....closing in on Blaze.>>

<< Morgan and Ava had JUST arrived, rushing for the tavern. as they moved through the fog, not being able to see more than arms length in front of them, the fog caused them to cough a bit. they had become lost..almost IMMOBILIZED in the fog. Ava called out to Morgan, who was flailing her arms about trying to get her bearings. If they didnt do something SOON, they would be too late...so close yet so FAR.>>

<< Blaze was being CORNERED by the apparitions as Morgan and Ava arrived into the dark bar.>>

D & B

The bone-chilling pounding of the door would continue while Blaze turned to gaze around the area for any sort of weapon just as various figures had burst through the door. Vaulting over the bar she grabbed a bottle of 100 proof vodka before taking a sip and spitting it out in a flurried mess as she had ignited a flame in her hands to hurl a blast of fire to help illuminate the area for Morgan and Ava.

As the flickering figures moved in each of them would be extinguished as she would scramble for another defense. Noticing the fire extinguisher on a nearby nook she grabbed the heavy device and aimed it at the dripping-wet figures as she would turn it on, hoping to freeze the figures as they would begin to surround her.

Step by step Blaze would back away as another dense white cloud would strike towards each of the apparitions. Her back hitting back into the wall. Her mind scrambling for ideas as her breath would hike.

<< she saw a pair of red eyes.>>

Ava....

<< but as she drew near...it wasnt her....it wasnt even HUMAN....>>

<< GASP!>>

<< it was one of the figures, like she saw the other night outside her patio doors! it was one of those...GHOSTS!? it swings it sycthe for her...and she screams, ducking as the blade misses her.>>

<< almost falling to the ground, she realizes that if she PANICS, she's dead. She's afraid of how many MORE there might be. WHERE they are in relation to her now!>>

where are you?? there's something in the FOG!!!

<< just as Sharon had said. the apparition came back for her again.>>

GET AWAY!

<< ZARK!>>

<< THIS TIME she fires an eldritch bolt! it pushes the creature back, but it doesnt destroy it . the light from the eldritch bolt is enough for Morgan to catch a glimpse of Ava and Morgan reaches out to grab her hand. there were MORE of them out here!>>

I've got you!

<< she begins heading toward the Tavern...>>

Whatever's in the fog...must be inside too with Blaze! We have to hurry!

<< sweeping her other hand out, trying to clear some view but in vain. THEN she gets the idea of forming a halo of magick around her hand.>>

GOT IT!

<< the way toward the door was clear now and they ran.>>

Hold on Blaze!

<< INSIDE, Blaze was now about to be attacked or WORSE by three of these undead spirits from the sea. she looks to Ava!>>

we'll have to use our powers! my eldritch bolts and your lightning bolts! nothing less than FULL POWER will even PHASE...whatever these THINGS are!

"MORGAN!"

:: Ava responded hearing Morgan's voice coming from the complete opposite direction she was heading. Turning, Ava quickly began to head in that direction. But as Ava carefully began to make her way pretty much BLIND, she heard Morgan yell get away and a scuffle. ::

"Morgan! Morgan!!"

:: A light illuminated the area due to one of her eldritch bolt, and it gave the woman enough lilght to see each other. Grabbing Morgan's hand they began to run toward the tavern until they were finally inside. ::

"Blaze!"

:: Seeing Blaze surrounded by....CREATURES, Morgan instructed to hit them with their eldritch and lightning bolts. ::

"But what about Blaze?! She could get caught in the crossfire!"

:: Looking frantically over at Blaze, Ava shouted. ::

"BLAZE MOVE NOW! BEHIND THE BAR!"

:: And with that, Ava extended her hands and sent out a massive surge of lightning at the creatures just as Morgan unleashed her eldritch bolts. ::

The patrons at the tavern took turns shooting Haleigh dirty looks. Haleigh took out her pistol again and set it on the bartop right next to her glass of scotch. She took a long, hearty gulp and slammed the glass back down. She didn't give a RATS ASS whether or not a bunch of eliteist strangers liked her.... she had bigger things to worry about than winning a popularity contest. Nicolas tried to tell her his hand was alright but Haleigh didn't let him shrug it off, she took his hand and turned it over.

"Don't give me the tough guy routine, okay? Just let me--"

Haleigh stopped, staring at his palm intently... it was healing before her very eyes. She ran her fingers over it as it fully reformed.

"Well that is a REALLY nice little trick."

As for Blaze, she just wanted to pull your chain, and she figured the best way was to pull...for lack of a better word, MY chain. The part about about rubbing you? You just look REALLY good.

Haleigh was DONE talking about the town princess. She gave Nicolas a look that reiterated everything she'd ALREADY said about the woman and just left it at that. But Nicolas tried to explain Blaze's behavior through flattery, and Haleigh just rolled her eyes.

"Well I don't care HOW good I look. People can't just be rubbing up on me without asking permission. It's RUDE. Not JUST that, but I've just about HAD IT with all this extra UNWANTED attention I've been getting ever since I decided to hang around this town. Corpses grabbing me and trying to scapel me and what not... she's LUCKY I pulled my gun! What if I'd reacted like I did on the Valiant yesterday and just turned around and PUNCHED her in the face? That little 'misunderstanding' COULD HAVE gotten the front side of her HEAD caved in."

Nicolas said:
Thanks for babying me in front of the entire town. Now if we make this, I just need you to tuck me in.

Haleigh rolled her eyes again, giving him a playful shove.

"What EVER. Don't get ahead of yourself, loverboy."

Sharon interrupted her broadcast, and the playfully flirty mood to try and get an emergency transmission across to the chief of police. Haleigh's lighthearted smile went grave, as she stood up, grabbing her pistol. It all happened very fast, as if a flip had been switched from pleasure to business. Nicolas and the staff began evacuating the tavern as the lights went out. Haleigh passed out flashlights to whomever called for one, whether or NOT the'yd previously given her a dirty look. Haleigh continued to monitor transmissions coming from the Lighthouse, and even as the barkeep searched for the battery operated radio, Haleigh intercepted the latest radio call:

someone, please...my son is TRAPPED! 8843 White Beach Lane!!

"Nicolas! Kyle's trapped at the babysitter's!"

She called, and milliseconds later the barkeep turned on the radio and the transmission got through. Haleigh and Nicolas made for the nearest exit as quickly as they could, hopped in the luxury sports car, and sped off. Nicolas teleported them to their destination, where he promptly hopped out, going harriedly to rescue Sharon's son. Haleigh slid into the drivers seat and kept the engine running. The fog was thick here... sweeping over the car and Haleigh waiting only on Nicolas' return to shift gears and get the HELL out of there. She could see him coming around the corner, and the car's engine ROARED as she revved it high and he jumped in the car. The door shut for him, Haleigh practically SLUNG the high performance engine into gear. Tires squealed and burned out, creating clouds of smoke that mixed into the fog... Haleigh was expecting the rubber of the tires to heat up and get sticky... so they'd catch traction and propel them forward... but apparently in the moment of haste when Nicolas had pulled up, he'd put them half in the yard and the tires just ate up the grass and the car got stuck in the mud!

There were shapes moving in the fog... shadows. Haleigh could also see corpses coming into view.... She gritted her teeth... she wouldn't be contained that easily... she was ESCAPING... and there was HELL to pay for whoever got in HER way.

"FU-- [catching herself, seeing Kyle] --FUDGE! Kyle, honey... don't look out there. Hey, check this out-- I know a cool trick to get us unstuck. Are you ready? Hang on to something."

The car itself began to seemingly tear apart... but it wasn't breaking... it was SHIFTING... TRANSFORMING into something else. Haleigh changed it for a well-equipped Jeep... and covered it with a bulletproof hardtop. She mentally buckled a seatbelt around Kyle who had climbed into the backseat now and Nicolas, who sat next to her, and then she turned the lights on, making daylight out of darkness as put the machine in four wheel drive. It PROMPTLY crawled out of the mud and she mowed down a couple of corpses for good measure.

"Alright boys! It's gonna get a little bumpy-- but I know a shortcut to the lighthouse... this rig can go anywhere and climb ANYTHING... and we're gonna get to your mom, alright, Kyle? Everything's gonna be fine."

outside of Sharon's house.

<< Kyle did his best to remain calm and brave. Sharon had taught him to regard Nicolas as an Uncle and "father figure", someone he could trust, but he DID want his mother right now. What child wouldnt?>>

<< he was hustled into the car with Nicolas and Haleigh, and the woman did her best to keep him calm as well. They were they to keep him safe, no matter what..and Haleigh promised him to they'd get him to h is mother.>>

<< he treated this new ride like something from a roller coaster, or one of the "special trips" his mother gave him when she flew him through the clouds with the birds high above.>>

Kyle: Haleigh...mommy's talking...you should listen.

<< he pointed to the radio panel to have her turn it on. he own psychic abilities were still emerging. He was learning from Nicolas, but so far the strongest ability he had was to focus on his mother...where she was, what she was doing, how she felt.>>

kyle: it's okay...mommy would want me to stay with Nicolas.

<< they couldnt get to Sharon, not without severe risk and Nicolas and Haleigh KNEW Sharon would be so upset if they subjected Kyle to th is nightmare more than necessary. They'd have to remember that Sharon had power too. Nicolas knew the extent of her ability and with her being in the lighthouse, which was now one of the safest places...they had to take a gamble that she'd survive this ALONE. She was helping the town, she was watching the light just as NIcolas had said she would.>>

back at Donder & Blitzen

<< Ava and Morgan burst into the bar, attacking the apparitions that are closing in on Blaze with their lightning and eldritch bolts. the power is fueled by their emotions...the strongest one being FEAR right now. but even their impressive display only serves to temporarily stagger the creatures. they truly are NOT human...they are not anything that could be described as human. They are embodiment of the spirits driven by VENGEANCE and NOTHING can satisfy vengeance but revenge.>>

<< Morgan has precious moments to snatch Blaze, and all three women high tail it out of the bar, rushing back outside into the fog. By now Morgan and Ava's eyes have SOMEWHAT adjusted and they know where the jag is...>>

meanwhile along the roads

<< Delilah drives with the speed and skill of a cop! ;) making great time. As she too hear's sharon's broadcast, she comes to a screeching halt as the fog cuts her off directly head on..and is closing in on their car as well.>>

Blaze, thank the goddess...we've got you! Now let's get the HELL OUT OF HERE!

<< grabbing Blaze by the hand and not a moment too soon as the apparitions were slowly but surely coming around already, Morgan runs, taking Ava's hand in her other hand as the three run out together..>>

We've got to stay together till we reach the...jag...

<< they rush out again, into the fog...where they are greeted by more corpses covered in sea weed and barnacles...weilding blades of death.>>

Delilah: A regular Rand & Mcnally, that Sharon! Hang on Karen, Mike. We're going to church tonight whether Alison likes it or not!

<< and with that Delilah STEPS ON IT, with Karen flying back with a start into Mike's chest.>>

you nearly had your arm severed and you sound so...NONCHALANT about it. I suppose being so valiant for that drunken tart makes it seem worth while.

I would do that for anyone...it is my sworn duty.

Karen spotted a game being run, but honestly, he wasn't interested, just tired of being alone around so many people. Karen was good to him at home, but he wondered...

He noted Delilah's driving, good enough to rival his own skill. As Sharon warned them about places that were cut off, Sharon adjusted accordingly and Mike held on as she turned around. Karen however, was tossed back into him and he caught her easily.

I got you. I'll always have you as long as you'll have me. I simply wish you weren't ashamed of me.

Mike kissed her forehead and held her, looking ahead as he waited for Delilah to arrive at the church...

Kyle pointed out that his mommy was talking... and Haleigh threw an over-the-shoulder glance at the boy. She passively monitored ALL transmission in Thunder Bay but during the chaos of trying to escape she'd let that task get backburnered. But Kyle.... he somehow KNEW his mother was trying to talk to him. Haleigh turned the radio on for him. Sharon addressed him.... then advised them ALL to get to safety quickly. Haleigh found the fog thickening right in front of her.... nightvision was clouded by it, heat vision would only help dodge animals, and even her XRAY vision was blurred by the fog... she had planned on cutting through yards and even the WOODS but with the fog as heavy as it was.... she couldn't risk it. Kyle told her it was okay anyway as she started to turn around.

"Alright.... but we'd better tell your Mom."

She equipped the jeep with a CB radio... one that would allow her to talk BACK with Sharon and reassure her about Kyle. A long, flexible whip antenna attached to the back corner of the Jeep... it would help 'cut' the fog for radio talk and keep a clear channel between Haleigh and Sharon. Haleigh picked up the handset and held the 'talk' button:

[over the radio]"Sharon, this is Haleigh. Nicolas and I have Kyle now... he's safe, unharmed. We were going to come to the lighthouse and get you but this fog is just TOO thick now! I don't want to wreck.... we're going to retreat; over."

Letting go of the transmit button, she listened for a response....

Sharon said:

[over the radio]"Copy That, Sharon. Rendevous point is the Gothic Church.... we'll see you there. Stay safe; over."

Turn back to town center Haleigh. We can regroup there and move forward. Sharon will be fine...and if need be, I will go back for her.

Nicolas was along for the ride as Haleigh moved into the town. Haleigh manifested a CB and began to talk to Sharon, explaining that the fog began to cut them off and Sharon began to help them, giving them streets that were cut off even as Haleigh adjusted for the new directions. Finally Sharon directed everyone not already in to seek shelter at the church. Nicolas could see that they were being cut off and so he acted.

Hang on!!

Nicolas elevated the road beneath them, holding up the vehicle as he laid road in front of them, propelling them above the fog to the church MUCH more quickly...

From D & B to the old Church

With the fog and the apparitions surrounding her, Blaze fought bravely by utilizing her own fire power but it was futile. Whatever she threw at them it didn’t have much of any effect. They were adjusting to it!

Her heartbeat would continue to rise while the hairs on the back of her neck fell erect. Her green eyes going wide in horror as each of them would stalk closer to her. One of them would swipe an axe her way, causing her to cry out in shock as she ducked. The blade barely missing her head.

“Morgan! Ava!”

Crying out for her sister and her dear friend, Blaze would roll to her left trying to keep distance between herself and these strange creatures. Slivers of the fog would slowly creep into the bar, causing Blaze to gasp for a breath. Fear clutching her heart while she tried in vain to ward off attacks. Attempting to tape into the weapons they carried hoping to melt them just as her name was yelled frantically by Morgan and Ava.

“Morgan!! Ava!! HURRY!!”

Blaze’s voice shouted across Sharon’s broadcast as the two of them would burst through the door. For a second she felt a sigh of relief until that axe would be brought down onto her head. Screeching, Ava informed her to duck for cover.

“I would so rather deal with that psycho bitch with the gun right about now!”

Quipping under her breath she vaulted over the back to duck down as the two would unleash one of their more fierce attacks, only to cause them to stagger back. Out of breath, Blaze poked her head up to see if it had worked. Groaning under her breath to see the creatures just stumbling back yet continuing to crowd further into the bar. Morgan would successfully snatch Blaze with the assistance of her stepping disk.

Blaze, thank the goddess...we've got you! Now let's get the HELL OUT OF HERE!

“You don’t have to tell me twice about that!”

Running hand in hand with Morgan and Ava as the fog was all around them.

We've got to stay together till we reach the...jag...

As the trio approached Morgan’s car, they stopped at Morgan’s instruction to listen. Canting her head to the side to listen.

“Sharon! She’s alive, oh thank God!”

The ground around them would be enveloped by a stepping disk teleporting them to the old church on the hill. The same church where Alison resided, the one she recalled from the pictures on her laptop.

"Nothing! Our attacks did nothing!"

:: Completely astonished that such a powerful attack merely sent the creatures staggering backwards, Ava knew they were dealing with something compltely beyond their control. ::

"Grab Blaze!"

:: Shouting to Morgan, she quickly grabbed Blaze's and all three woman booked it out of the tavern and through the dense fog toward the car. Ava could hear the faintest sound of Sharon's voice grow louder and louder as they finally reached the car. She instructed everyone to go to the gothic church. ::

we're OUT OF HERE!

:: Hearing the creatures surround them, Morgan's stepping disc open just in time as all three disappeared in the blink of an eye and reappeared in the basement of the gothic church. The brunette's heart was racing a million miles a minute. Her once perfectly styled hair now had curles falling down along her cheeks and out from the pulled back french twist indicating she had been in a scuffle. ::

<< running up the stone path through the cemetary of the church, they hear the honking of a horn as Delilah TEARS up the road, her high beams startling the three women. Delilah made it to the church with herself, Karen and Mike and now they were rushing out of the car to meet the three women. and THEN, Haleigh comes crashing through a wooden fence area as she too tears across the grounds of the church, meeting up with the others. Nicolas, Haleigh and little Kyle join the run to the church as the fog is now OBVIOUSLY in pursuit, curling and twisting down the road and up the path behind them.>>
