Eye of Fire-A quest

Shaken but not broken in spirit, the group continues on through the heat making for the next outcropping and then the one after that. They continue on like this for what feels like days, only stopping briefly to rest or eat. Sleeping is nearly impossible in the heat and tempers begin to fray. They find themselves snapping at each other. Euthalia is the first to notice the odd rock formation in the distance, it is smaller than their usually resting places and is curved at one end. It seems to arch up from the base and has a hook to the tip.....

:: Kurama senses something from Euthalia and using his telepathy understands whats suprising her ::

"Euth I think I see what you see, strange isn't it?"

:: Sighing, she quickly brushed the sweat from her forehead and continued walking along. Hiking through a desert wasn't one of a Siren's favorite things to do... Shopping, yes but this definetly wasn't. Maia's eyes glance over in the direction where Kurama and Euthalia are looking, noticing the odd rock formation. The Siren rose one of her finely shaped eyebrows, staring at them for a while, before she spoke ::

"Yeah... I see them too. What is that!?"

:: She looks back at the group ::

:: With the group, she contuines to march along.. Hot, and alittle irritatied.. She was keeping to herself. Which was best, no one ever wanted to see an irritaited Wizard. The heat was for sure getting to her.. But she may not have been the only one.. Looking up, when she heard Maia, her best friend speak.. She let her eyes trail to the rock formation.. And then spoke up, as calmly as she could.. ::

"Looks like some kind of rock..."

:: She paused, thinking of the right word.. But couldn't think of one.. ::

"Thing.."

:: She looked at the group, thinking maybe they had a better idea of what exactly it was.. ::

As the group carefully nears the odd rock formation, an odd sound is heard, almost a chittering. From about 100 yards away they realize that this isn't an odd rock formation at all. It is a huge sand encrusted scorpion, one the size of a small house and which has become aware of them intruding into its territory. The monstrosity scuttles around to face the group, the sand falling from its body and its stinger twitching ominously overhead.....

:: Kurama is wide eyed as he sees this scorpion and immediatly takes to the high skies, high above the reach of the stinger. With a fick of his wrist the scorpion is on its side but not fully, as well as its pinchers locked spread open. In smokey rose petals a spear is conjured. With precise aim Rama throws it at the open mouth guiding it with TK into it and deep into the body. ::

"Guys lets get this one for Sati"

:: The Siren's eyes widen with excitement, but slight fear as well. She rolled her chestnut eyes, not quite ready to go into another battle with this... scorpion as it seemed. She reached back with both her arms, and pulled out her beloved 21" engraved metal sais. She looked over at the group, raising an eyebrow. At first, she didn't quite know how to approach the overgrown insect, since it was larger than any scorpion she has ever seen. With her strength, she threw the sais directly at it's chest, directing it carefully and quickly with her Telekineisis ::

For Sati...

The giant insect manages to right its body enough for the stinger to make a stab. The stinger strikes with lightning quickness at Sydney who dives out of the way in time to only suffer being knocked to the ground. Her backpack though, is torn from her, impaled on the creature's tail.

:: Kurama from his point sees Syd narrowly escape death and yells ::

"PACK"

:: He backpack blinks in a shower of shadow rose petals over by her feet. He then controls his spear from the inside directing it to tear up the scorpions internal organs, he makes sure to pierce its heart ::

*She stopped as the entire group seemed to pause, staring out into the distance. She saw the rock they were all discussing and stared at it curiously.*

"It does look rather strange."

*As they get closer to the thing, she hears noises, not really understanding what it was. All of a sudden it began to move, spraying sand everywhere. She backed off, trying to keep away from it when she noticed a huge stinger above them, eyes going a little wide.*

"What the hell!"

*She rushes over to Sydney, helping her up and making sure she was alright. She stood over her friend as watched the scorpion out of the corner of her eye, making sure it didn't attack them while Syd regained her composure. She teleblinked the pack over towards them after Rama got it down, and started to treat some of Syd's bruises. She looked over at Rama and Maia and nodded, smiling.*

"For Sati it is, go get that overgrown bug."

:: Euthalia noticed the odd formation, she nodded at Rama when he asked her that and then saw that it was really a huge scorpion. ::

"For Sati..."

:: She replied and ran over to Sydney, when she saw the "thing" try and attack her. ::

"Are you ok, Sydney? That was really close."

:: Euthalia quickly threw her dagger at the Scorpion. ::

:: Tobias mumbles 'for Sati' also and slashes at the scorpian's pincers with his axe ::

Working together, the group manages to break on of the insects pincers off as well as driving the creature back. It's instincts are unable to cope well with the mutifaced attacks being brought to bear against it. As it is driven back, a faint glowing is seen at times from beneath it when its bulk is not blocking it. The monster's movements are becoming more and more rigid as its external and internal injuries begin to take their toll.

:: Kurama from above sees the scorpion not taking all these attacks too well and he decides to go for the coupe de grace. With a sharp downwards flick of his wrist, the spear shoots out of the scorpion's belly and then with another side and then upwards flick it shoots back in. He hopes all these puncture wounds will soon cause it to stop moving ::

Amy and Sydney join the fray and work together to help bring the monster down. The beast tries to scuttle away but it is too injured. With a final heave, it shudders and then dies. Partially eclipsed by the bulk of the thing is a faint glow that initially no one sees. It glows a soft blue color and is mostly obstructed by the dead scorpion.

:: Kurama sees the monster is dead and floats down to the ground. He watches carefully ready to counterattack if the body spasms. He sees a glow, he runs back out of the reach of the monster and then his head goes down as his astral appears near the belly of the beast. Rama's astral sees a glow and attempts to get around the limbs of the scorpion to it ::

*After helping Sydney get back on her feet, she runs off to attack the scorpion, trust short sword in hand. Watching as the overgrown bug heaves it's last and collapses on the floor, she shouts out a hurray.*

"Great job you guys! See, this is what happens when we're motivated and work together. Well done."

*As she's collecting the rest of her things, chaotically thrown around by the sudden appearance of the scorpian, she notices Rama astral out a projection of himself, carefully observing the scorpian for something. She watches him, curious about what he's doing.*

"What's wrong Rama, what're you looking for?"

:: Euthalia watched as the scorpion was defeated. A sense of satisfaction fell over her, they had accomplished this together and no one had died. She hoped this sense of pride didn't jinx them. They had defeated it in honor of Sati. A wide grin came onto her face, she looked over at the group and then at Amarisy. ::

"Amarisy can you teleblink me back my dagger?"

:: She asked turning to Kurama wondering what he was looking for/at the same as Amy. She then noticed the pale blue light and looked at it curiously, squinting to make sure her eyes weren't playing tricks on her and that it wasn't a mirage, she took a sip of her water and then sealed it. ::

"What is that thing, by/in the scorpion?"

:: Euthalia asked the rest of the group. ::

"Thats what I am trying to find"

:: Astral Rama said. Finally he gave up being nice with the body and just dove right in til he hit the source of the light ::

"Hmm whats this?"

" some of us, can't astral, so what's what?"

:: She question the astral projection. A blue light wasn't something Euthalia saw often. Especially one seemingly coming from a deceased scorpion. She walked closer to see what he was talking about.::

Will this help later or are we just wasting are time?
